Review of the High Tech Pet Power Pet Electronic Pet Door, which was already installed in our home when we moved here. This wall mount PX1 model uses the tunnel adapter to pass through the drywall and stucco of our house. This is the medium size, but they also sell a large size for $50 more. I show you 2 ways that I attach it to my Dogs' collars: one for a 20 lb. Miniature Schnauzer and one for a 4 pound Yorkie Puppy. I briefly talk about options for the expensive replacement batteries. See my follow-up video about how to hack the proprietary batteries and use a $1 replacement battery instead: • High Tech Pet Collar B...

oh, you need to change the sensitivity for inside and outside so won't stay open when your dogs are feet away. We LOVE this pet door.

We've had the door for years (7 plus)and love it. The dog stands there and watches it go up and down. Funny, but it's gone up and down thousands of times without a hitch. Terrific quality. That said the batteries are expensive but your hack took care of that. Thanks!

I had watched your video before buying this dog door and found a great solution to attach the sensor to my small dog's collar. She wears a leather collar, and her collar has adjuster holes. She uses the second loosest setting and there are many other adjuster holes in the collar. I took several layers of dental floss and went through one of those holes and then onto the back of the sensor and then into another hole and tied a nice tight knot on the inside. So far it has worked perfectly. Just a creative idea for anyone out there that hates the collar they provide.

I've had this door for over 6 years and while the initial investment was a lot ie the door itself and the contractor to bust thru the wall, it is totally worth it. In 6 years I had to return it to manufacturer in CA twice for repair, again totally worth it. To not be a door man for the animals and the freedom it gives you and pets, it's worth every penny. I wish they'd improve the receiver collar situation and make a smaller receiver for cats.

We just installed the pet tech dog door and it is a little noisy but so worth the money. It took my dogs very few minutes to figure out the door and have already done the in and out several times. I definitely love this door!

We live rural and these doors are a must, can't use regular flapper doors as racoons, opossums, rats, skunks will enter. We have 2 of these pet doors , 1 from our service area walk door in the house to the garage and the other mounted in the walk door exiting the garage. We installed these in walk doors as it is easier to fix or replace a door instead of fixing a hole through the side of the house. The pet doors we have are now 10+ years old and have worked great, no problems. They do get a lot of use as we have 3 JRTs. We have replaced the collars as the dogs are hard on them. The new MS-5 collars hold up better.

I have just installed one of these 3 wks ago for my 6 yr old yorkie & 7 yr old shitzu. Yorkie has no issues using it all the time however shitzu is scared of it. I am gone for 12.5 hours a day and needed something that will work in summer & winter -10, so I thought it was a good investment.

After 2 years this door has been the biggest nightmare we have ever encountered. If my goal in life were to scam people and steal their money, this company would be my model. They sat down and expended who-knows-how-much effort to design the unit so that the battery is wired in backward so that they could purchase batteries in bulk that cost the consumer $1 each, probably $0.10 for them (or less?) and charge $22 between "shipping" and the price of the battery for every replacement. We got around that scam by watching KZbin videos and we now use $1 batteries and replace them ourselves. They put a sticker on each battery and a piece of essentially heavy foil, cha-ching, $21.90 profit? At your expense! The door constantly jams because one of the sensors inside will not stay put. We fixed it 86 times, finally hot-melt gluing the sensor down. Then the glass started jumping up above that sensor and the jams continued. I finally had to solder a piece of metal rod inside the sensor arm to prevent the door from jumping up over it. Meanwhile 8 of the 16 screws holding the back on stripped out very early on; this has to be the cheapest plastic they could find. One of the ultrasonic "microphones" burned out in less than a year as well so our dog can either go in from outside or out from inside; not both - we set it to allow him to come in. I still have to replace that "microphone." Buying from the company is out of the question. I will never, ever, ever do business with them again. This unit, in my experience, is absolute junk, I personally believe it was designed to break and make the company a killing on price gouging for replacement parts which have to be as bad as the originals. One of the sensitivity knobs broke off through normal use; I then saw the stem the knob mounts on is thinner than a toothpick. Make sure it breaks early and often, right? There is nothing good I can say about this door. We regretted the purchase soon after buying it and it all went downhill from there. No, it is not a case of "we just got a lemon unit." Everything I have seen inside this door screams that it was designed to break so they could price gouge on replacements.

Has anyone had issues with the door opening and closing over and over even when the dog is far enough from the door? We have an issue where the door will close 3/4 of the way and then open and repeat until the battery is dead unless we are around to fix it. It's frustrating because we have left our dog home in the morning with the idea that it is working only to come home and find the door won't open because the battery has died. Hopefully soon we will be able to plug it in to alleviate the battery issue (right now the plug in port has been covered with a baseboard but will be remedied today), but I am also hoping this will make it open and close properly as well.

@HeyMIMi DIY This was a very good descriptive video. Does the door still work? I noticed you did this review in 2016? I want to buy the WI-FI door, because we have a little dog and then we won't have to put the transponder on her. I don''t care about the extra money, I just wish there was a review of the wifi vs the non wifi model. Uggh, I can't make up my mind. Any advice would be appreciated.

@@marieg3865 Hello! I got the wi fi one. Overall, it's great. It took a couple of days before I started getting the notifications but I am now...most of the time but not 100%. For this reason I've added a blink camera to my fenced area so I'll always know if they are outside or not. Also, the outside sensor was covered in snow from our snowstorm yesterday and not allowing them back inside so I like having the app so if that were to occur I could open it from the app. Otherwise it's been great. My one dog who has the concept figured out loves it. My older dog is still asking me to let him out and back inside! Hoping he picks up on it soon so I can sleep through the night! I got mine from the website with the warranty that comes from ordering direct from them. You can use FB20 for an extra 20% off. Wish I had known that...I only got 10%!

You just put the harness in exactly the same way the old one was. Take pictures first. The wires just need to be routed the same way around the corners.

The sensor comes with a black adjustable collar. Why don't you use it?. We do, works great
@Heymimi
@Heymimi 8 жыл бұрын
I did use it for awhile, along with my Schnauzer's regular collar. But it just had 2 tiny D-rings and I didn't feel it was substantial enough to put the sensor, a dog tag and attach a leash to it. So he was wearing 2 collars. I eventually made a loop with the original skinny collar, and slid it onto his regular collar; so that he was only wearing 1 collar. Also, once we got the second dog, we used the old sensor that the original home owner gave us. They gave us the sensor, but no collar. That's why I went out to find a similar skinny collar that would work with the sensor!
@learnwithus7823
@learnwithus7823 5 жыл бұрын
because it's annoying that your dog has to wear 2 collars. it would make more sense for them to redesign the sensor to be able to fit on your dog's existing collar...or make the collars that come with them better quality AND thicker.

@brilliant777
@brilliant777 3 жыл бұрын
Any problems will be either within the motherboard or the "wiring harness", both of which you can buy from High Tech. Also, if the installation screws are too tight, it will affect the operation of the door. Screws should be snug. When mine was first installed, it did not work very well. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not. I took a look at the instructions (I paid a friend to install mine). The bottom of the sliding door is supposed to be the distance from the bottom of your dog's chest to the floor. Mine had been mounted at ground level. So, I took it out and added a 2x4 between the 2 studs at the proper height to remount the dog door. It worked great for the next 14 years. I moved and left the door installed. I purchased another one for the new house and am about to install it. I love the High Tech pet doors. I have the PX2. I just viewed Mimi's KZbin on how to hack the batteries. My battery lasted 6 months usually. I still did not like spending that much money on a battery. My dog would open the door and stick her head out stand there looking around outside a lot! And vice versa. I also had a 2nd collar for friend's dogs that came over. My dog would deliberately go through the door when the other dog was on other side of the room, to mess with them. I figured my dog needed to learn to share instead of being a brat! Lol

@Heymimi 8 жыл бұрын
I never made the "replacement battery" video because I stopped using the electronic dog door. (I will explain in the next video).. But I did order the cheaper batteries and have been meaning to put them to the test for a follow up video. I will try to make that video next. I just keep forgetting, because I took the sensors off my dogs a few months ago... I discovered that they emit an electronic noise that seemed to be bothering my dogs! I don't think it would bother a larger dog, but in a small dog the sensor is right up against their ear and I worried that it was driving them nuts. Hold the sensor to your ear and you will see what I mean!
@carolnh1030
@carolnh1030 8 жыл бұрын
+HeyMimi DIY That's too bad. They tell you that the emissions are supposed to keep fleas and ticks off your dog. one of their selling points. The transmitter is supposed to be at the bottom of the collar, near the dogs chest. If you had it by the ears or head, maybe that's why your dogs didn't like it.

This door is not worth 600+. There are no weather seals. It has no weather protection at all which means water or pee from the dogs will get in your walls. And sometimes it works great, sometimes not at all.

Great concept, but very poorly made. I've been though 2 in just over a year. Both will not close in the winter, leaving a gaping cold air draft all night or all day until it receives help to close. Don't waste your money if you want a workable solution.

If you love and value your pets, dont buy these dangerous automated doors. They fail on a regular basis. If they fail on a hot day, like in Arizona or in a cold winter day in Maine, your dog may not be able to get back inside your home for shelter. Theyll be left out in the heat or cold and could die from exoisure!

I can see 2 issues here: 1- if the pets are still in the area and the door remains open,unwanted animals might sneak in at this time. 2-it can drop on unwanted animals like a guillotine and we don't want to harm other animals or maybe an accident with your pets. the idea of this mechanism is wrong (in my opinion).

Most wild animals don't really wanna risk going past a dog to explore the house, of which they're not sure what's inside. and for your second point, I highly doubt that the motor has enough force to actually harm an animal badly.
