You are spot on with everything you say for sure. I've only been doing this 9 months now and finally realize what you are saying. I started out with that low tech sort of DIY CO2 and it was a pain to control, you know using citric acid/baking soda. A couple times I forgot to turn it off and woke up to find the fish at the top of the tank gasping for oxygen. So I quit that because I cannot find a (reliable) place for using a practical CO2 setup near me. My original 29 gal tank is overrun with jungle val and is simply beautiful. I've found that the best (for me) substrate is using high iron gravel and a layer of clay gravel over that, then it can be capped with whatever/anything.

Yea I definitely been there with the DIY, only way it works without killing fish is to manually take it out at night 😂. I cap my nutrient rich dirt usually with inert eco-complete, I find it helps me at least.

Well said. It took me 7 years to go high tech. Graduating from College basically opened the high tech hobby up for me. It can be a pain but really enjoying it so far

High tech is definitely super enjoyable. And hey, better late then never!

Great video! I have 3 low tech tanks doing very well and am in the process of setting up my first pressurized co2 tank. I agree with starting low tech and learning the basics first because a co2 system isn’t cheap!

Nice, looks like you graduated! Your world is about to take a whole new turn.

@@SlickNick3 absolutely, but also becareful what you wish for sometimes with high tech tanks lol. My lease is up end of Sept so once I move, I got empty tanks to build! Cant wait

The main difference between high tech tanks and low tech tanks is pressurized CO2. Thank you for watching 😂 Fun and educational video, I liked it 👍

Hey man. Great video. :) Bought the LEDSTAR Z-series based on your recommendation. Pretty happy with it. Question though; I have a 25 gallons (60 length, 41 height, 37 width), how high should I set it up? And can I add more substrate to my tank even when I already have fishes in it? Thanks!
@TankTastic3 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you like it! Well I usually do 11-12cm above the waterline. Really no set rules, higher it goes the better it spread, but less power. Yea, just use a hose or a cup and pour the substrate under water

@@TankTastic much appreciated, man. always looking out for your new vids. Thanks!
About fertilizer in a high tech tank, have you ever not fertilize your tank for longer than usual what were your results (if you ever done that)? Is it extremely noticeable?
@TankTastic3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I have during vacation. I didn’t have an auto doser and no one else was home. It was 5 days and algae took over (I fertilize 6 days a week). Now if I lowered the light during that time with the co2 bumping I would of been in better shape.

@@TankTastic Interesting thanks I had a recent experience with my tank I started dosing fertilizer NPK and iron and all kinds of hair algaes starting to grow like crazy I also dose CO2 and have medium to low growing plants so I think the problem was my lighting system, it is not appropriate for such high levels of nutrients if everything goes well I'll try to upgrade them next year, but in the meantime I am no longer dosing fertz and algae is at bay.

Great video! Kind of new here lol I’ve watched your review about chihiros wrgb2 to many time to see if I should get it or not. I haven’t decided yet lol anyway I love I’m Minnesota and I use well hard water(mix with some RO Water) and Im trying to achieve a nice panted tank but I don’t want it to grow too fast and I want to be able to change the water every 2-3 weeks, can you give me an advice please? My water has some phosphates, a lot pf iron (calcium). TIA
@TankTastic3 жыл бұрын
Yea, with all that you are dosing you def need a lot of light. I usually just go with lean dosing, I really dont need that explosive growth lol cant even sell them fast enough or trade them
@TankTastic3 жыл бұрын
I think if you want to WC every 2-3 weeks. Go with a low tech tank, make a beautiful hardscape and easy slow growers like java fern, swords, crypts and buce. No need for wrgb2, just a budget light will do.

High-Tec doesn’t necessarily mean high maintenance, it’s all about the design. On my current hi-tec scape. I do no water changes just evaporation top-ups. No ferts. No trimming. No nothing. just sit back and enjoy.

Oh absolutely, fully customizable for personal liking. But to get the best out of full on high tech takes some more love.
