I know this was meant as a joke, but you have no idea what this song means to me. My dad, he was a big fan of Creed, and I'd love jamming to this with him. Cancer took him around 5 or 6 years ago, and I had to bite back tears on the way home from work after playing this and getting part way in. I thought I was done shedding tears over the man, but I guess not yet! I was tempted to pull over and just feel it, but instead I detoured to a church's brick mailbox I helped him build when I was young. It's been like a gravestone for him in my eyes since I didn't feel fully welcome with the rest of the family at the scattering of his ashes. I wish he were still here to see how far I've built my life in the relatively short time he's been gone. I wish he could still look me in the eyes and tell me how proud he is of me, moving past mistakes and growing in spite of them. But keeping to more grounded wants and wishes, it still felt so good to stop by and play it for him, cause I know he would have loved it. Maybe me checking back on you after not paying attention for a while and finding this song was a way that God let him tell me what needed to be said. I just want you to know the good you did. You blessed me far more than what you may have intended for anyone, Colm. And who knows how many others? I pray you receive blessings to match and exceed.

You know I used to like this song...when it came out and I was 13. When our dreams are better then our lives its easy to relate to. I've always had vivid dreams. My dreams never had golden streets though. It was never about wealth. But having companionship and finding a place I felt safe. In one of my happiest ones I was living in a house with a leaky roof, with elderly parents, sleeping in a warm comfortable bed beside a chasm, with a man who had finally told me 'I was his love'. I got emotional and told him he didn't have to force himself to say that. I just didn't want to lose him. In the awkwardness I tripped and nearly fell over the chasm. He saved me from falling and told me, not to die once we'd finally found each other. It was a simple and beautiful dream.
