@@PeterparkerSlaps I'd rather spend my money on an XPeng MPV 9 (if I could get it for less than 20% tariff) than a robotaxi subscription. Commuters aren't going to give up cars for robotaxi like boosters think it will. Tesla owners assume there's a market out there, but they don't want to give up their own cars. Elon seems to want to target public transport customers, making overall transit less efficient. I used to be on board with Robotaxi, but I don't think it will really get so big so fast as boosters say. Just like finance, insurance, and many other areas in the economy where economic "rents" are destroying real growth; transit should be as much of a public utility as possible.

I would like someone to build a more affordable electric or hybrid minivan. They have become insanely expensive. I don't know why people prefer SUVs for their families. Most people don't drive their cars off road. The sliding doors on vans is way more convenient for tight parking spaces and getting in and out of the back seats. You get the same or more storage space than a third-row SUV. They are less top heavy and can handle better. The Volkswagen Buzz could have been great, but its range is terrible and it's too expensive.
@Nphen5 күн бұрын
Yes. Agree to all those points. I had a Mazda 5 with sliding doors. About the size of a Model X. Just such a good form factor. Having nice seats in the middle was so amazing on road trips. The Chrysler Pacifica PHEV is nice, but $55k is pricey, considering the XPeng MV 9 is all electric and nicer in many ways. I call American style SUV Non-Utility Vehicles. They're just gas-wasting ego boosts. I'm convinced the car companies paid comedians to vilify minivans 20 years ago. They're so underrated now. I wish America had Kei trucks, too. Here's to Aptera one day getting bigger.

Since Tesla will be making more taxis for the mass market, it makes sense that Tesla will focus on low volume, specialty vehicles.

I currently have a Honda pilot and I really like it. The model X is smaller and 80 grand… the Rivian R1S is great, but even a bit more expensive. The Kia EV9 is a good size and about 60K+ but I’d much prefer to have a Tesla or Rivian. I’ve argued this point before that part of EVs adoption problem is because there isn’t a great variety of styles and vehicle categories at manageable prices. I’ve looked at that 3 and , but they’re just too small for my needs.

Never mind all that. Just give us a large van on the semi architecture. Ditch the dual axle in the rear. Offer a low roof version 9-12 seater and a high roof extended wheelbase version for RV builders. The small pack would be good for 400-500 miles of range in the van and the large pack could be offered in the RV for 500+ miles of range or extended offgrid camping.

The thing with making a mini van with the Cybertruck chassis, Tesla could get away from using steel for the shell and go with other materials. Also, many of the Truck-centric technologies could be removed for more efficient tech…smaller wheels, lower ground clearance, etc.
@Nphen5 күн бұрын
Just give me a Telo already. Tesla has become unfocused on quality vehicles. Cybertruck doesn't have a chassis. It really gave Tesla almost nothing other than 48v and doing a production vehicle with 4 wheel steering. I would rather buy a Model Y size truck, or a Ford Maverick hybrid. I'm so disappointed in Cybertruck. No ramp gate, air outlet, frunk outlets, mid-gate, or rearview screen.

A Tesla Transit van would basically be a smaller version of the tesla semi. That would be awesome. Something that you could stand up in. After market accessories would go wild for something like this. Tesla provides the base vehicle that can accept after market beds kitchen bathroom.
@chrisoconnell84325 күн бұрын
A Tesla Transit van would be awesome, but its not just a smaller semi. A semi chassi is completely different from a van chassi, mostly due to the fact that a semi chassi must be beefy AF. So they would not be able to share the same line at a factory.

I don't believe regulations will allow Tesla to have three seats in the front. Every front passenger requires an airbag, which would be difficult to do for the middle passenger if there is a giant screen in front of them. Should be less of an issue for the passengers in the back. So an 8 seat vehicle is definitely possible.

"Underpopulated" ?! (sorry in advance, it's a bit political) I'm French, can someone explain to me what this means? I understand the idea of having children, almost everyone wants their life to "serve a purpose" even if often being useful to someone remains acceptable and not just a kind of selfish behavior as some claim. I can understand that from a certain point of view, some think that only their children learn from them because they only see them and only help them. (paradoxically it sounds selfish) But in this case, I don't really see what this means ideologically. Does Elon really consider that the planet is "underpopulated" (whatever that means...)?

Tesla is also watching the release of the Lucid Gravity and the pending Cadillac. While none of these will hurt Tesla's market in a significant way, they do add a level of competitiveness. The Gravity is is going to be about what the Model X cost but with a larger third row, more range and most likely on the 800v architecture. The Cadillac and any GM variant will look like a traditional large SUV and that will appeal to those who don't like the looks of the Rivian or Tesla. Yeah, Tesla is all in on autonomous but I don't they're anywhere close the Level 4 or 5. They're not even Level 3 at this point given the issues with FSD many of us are having using it on our day to day drives.
