look at the book "Gods healing way” by Mary Ann McNeilus MD it says (with a bit of editor input) it is not the sun-strike on the skin that causes skin cancer it is when the sun light reacts with bad fats below the skin, that is what gives skin cancer. Question: What type of fats is everyone eating today? Logic: is that why skin cancer is escalating out of control? I found over the years when I eat bad fats I need more toilet paper at the toilet visit, while eating a good amount of good fats, I just need one serving of toilet paper.

@@cherylmcduff5388 Sure. And please send me references or PDFs from peer reviewed journals for high dose Vitamin D randomized controlled trials. TheNeurologist@aol.com VITAMIN D STUDIES FROM NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE DIABETES. Among persons at high risk for type 2 diabetes not selected for vitamin D insufficiency, vitamin D3 supplementation at a dose of 4000 IU per day did not result in a significantly lower risk of diabetes than placebo. CANCER and HEART DISEASE. Supplementation with vitamin D did not result in a lower incidence of invasive cancer or cardiovascular events than placebo. No Value for Routine Vitamin D Supplementation Thomas L. Schwenk, MD A randomized trial, a meta-analysis, and a guideline all point in the same direction. Enthusiasm for recommending vitamin D supplementation to prevent a wide range of skeletal and extraskeletal disorders was diminished considerably by three publications in 2018. In VITAL (Vitamin D and Omega-3 Trial), researchers randomized nearly 26,000 middle-aged and older adults with no history of cardiovascular (CV) disease, cancer, or other serious disorders to receive vitamin D3 (2000 IU daily) or placebo. Mean serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D level increased in vitamin D3 recipients only. During median follow-up of 5 years, major adverse CV events and invasive cancer occurred with equal frequencies in the two groups (NEJM JW Gen Med Dec 15 2018 and N Engl J Med 2018 Nov 10; [e-pub]). The VITAL researchers are expected to report eventually on other outcomes, including fractures. In a meta-analysis of 33 randomized trials, effects of supplementation with calcium, vitamin D, or both on fracture rates were investigated in older community-dwelling adults (age, ≥50). There was no reduction in risk for hip fracture or vertebral, nonvertebral, and total fractures for any supplementation intervention. The results applied to subgroups with 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels lower than 20 ng/mL or with previous fractures (NEJM JW Gen Med Feb 15 2018 and JAMA 2017; 318:2466). Finally, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) updated previous guidelines addressing vitamin D supplementation. The Task Force found adequate evidence to recommend against vitamin D supplementation to prevent falls and found insufficient evidence to recommend supplementation to prevent fractures in men and premenopausal women. For postmenopausal women, they recommend against low-dose supplementation, but evidence was insufficient to determine whether higher doses prevent fractures. The USPSTF emphasized that these recommendations apply only to community-dwelling older adults who are not known to have osteoporosis or vitamin D deficiency (NEJM JW Gen Med May 15 2018 and JAMA 2018; 319:1592). The VITAL study joins many others in which disease associations with low vitamin D levels do not necessarily translate to benefit from supplementation. However, given widespread routine measurement of vitamin D levels by clinicians (a practice for which there is no supportive evidence currently) and over-the-counter availability of supplements, vitamin D use is unlikely to decline. Groups at high risk - Older persons confined indoors may have low serum 25(OH)D concentrations. Cutaneous production of vitamin D declines with age and in the northern latitudes. In addition, dietary vitamin D intake is often low in older individuals. As an example, in a study of postmenopausal women living in France, mean daily vitamin D intake from food was 144.8 international units /day. More than one-third of women consumed

@@cherylmcduff5388 Evidence does not currently establish the anticarcinogenic value of vitamin, mineral, or nutritional supplements in amounts greater than those provided by a balanced diet. HARRISON’S INTERNAL MEDICINE The U.S. National Institutes of Health Women’s Health Initiative, launched in 1994, was a long-term clinical trial enrolling >100,000 women age 45-69 years. It placed women into 22 intervention groups. Participants received calcium/vitamin D supplementation; hormone replacement therapy; and counseling to increase exercise, eat a low-fat diet with increased consumption of fruits, vegetables, and fiber, and cease smoking. The study showed that although dietary fat intake was lower in the diet intervention group, invasive breast cancers were not reduced over an 8-year follow-up period compared to the control group. No reduction was seen in the incidence of colorectal cancer in the dietary intervention. The difference in dietary fat averaged ∼10% between the two groups. Vitamin D is not effective as primary prevention of cardiovascular disease or cancer (VITAL) General Clinical Question: Does vitamin D supplementation prevent cardiovascular events or cancer in patients without known vascular disease or cancer? Bottom Line: Vitamin D supplementation does not prevent cardiovascular events or cancer in mostly nondiabetic adults (men 50 years and older, women 55 years and older). (LOE = 1b) Reference: Manson JE, Cook NR, Lee IM, et al. Vitamin D supplements and prevention of cardiovascular disease and cancer. N Engl J Med 2019;380(1):33-44. [PMID:30415629] Study Design: Randomized controlled trial (double-blinded) Funding: Government Allocation: Concealed Setting: Population-based Synopsis: Vitamin D deficiency is associated with many bad things including cancer, vascular disease, and dementia. This study is the first adequately powered US trial of vitamin D supplementation for primary prevention. It was designed as a factorial trial, with patients randomized to receive vitamin D 2000 IU or placebo, and to receive marine n-3 fatty acids (also known as omega-3 fatty acids) or placebo. The n-3 fatty acid results are reported separately. The researchers recruited a total of 25,871 men 50 years and older and women 55 years and older who had no history of cardiovascular disease or cancer. The groups were balanced at the start of the study, with a mean age of 67 years, 51% women, approximately 20% African Americans, and 14% with diabetes. Participants began with a 3-month placebo run-in period to exclude those who were noncompliant (approximately one-third overall), which could overestimate the potential benefit seen in clinical practice. Of the participants, 12% had a vitamin D level less than 20 ng/mL (50 nmol/L) and 45% had a level less than 30 ng/mL (75 nmol/L). At the end of the median follow-up of 5.3 years, there was no difference in any the trial endpoints (cardiovascular events, cardiovascular deaths, incident cancer, cancer deaths, or all-cause mortality). There was a small reduction in cancer deaths (112 vs 149; hazard ratio 0.75; 95% CI 0.59 - 0.96), but that was only seen in the post hoc analysis that excluded events in the first 2 years with the rationale that any effect would take time to become apparent. Given the large number of comparisons made (19 in one table alone) this outcome could easily have occurred by chance. Results were similar for the subgroup of patients with lower vitamin D levels at baseline.
