This whole induction cooking phase has bitten me. Let’s face it, no gas bottles, no flame blowing out. Totally renewable with solar. The thing is though, what do I have to do to get this into my Pod Camper.

mmm… $6k battery/inverter cooking setup vs $20 butane camping stove 🤔 I better not tell the wife I want to upgrade.

This must be the love of building things more than practial use. $5000 of electrics so you can use a little induction cooker? $20 gas burner stove from BigW solves that problem. But looks like a fun (if expensive) lil hobby mate.

Likes and comments are good for the algorithm 😉 awesome setup you’ve got there mate, I’m thinking I’ll do something similar in my Y62 down the track. Check out some of the setups that safiery have done if you need any inspiration, they use heaps of victron gear as well and have some elegant solutions. Great content as always Dave.

I think it’s time to put a decent battery in your van too and use a victron argofet to a big Anderson plug to charge either you camper or van battery from the alternator.

You need some clearance space around the inverter. At least 25mm but look up the instructions

Hey man the victron inverter has a ac transfer switch when ac power is plug in it drawers from ac power and only drawers from the battery if it needs to boost up the ac coming in as there is a guy in USA that explains victron stuff he uses and is KZbin channel is explorist life diy campers

Ooh and the reason the charging amps doesn’t drop is your house is supplying the stove when hooked up to 240 not the batteries.

the induction units are great ( have used one for years) but from what I have found, for heating water a small electric kettle (or birko) uses less power, so not as many amps flowing etc ( it takes slightly longer) to heat the same amount of water. did you put a fuse and isolator switch on the battery?

There’s heaps of lithium on the market these days but they are not all equal. The cheaper ones are fine for running a fridge fir example, but for these high power applications you need to spend the $$$. I’m very happy with the DCS gear 👌

Great setup 👍 love the induction and Multiplus. However a few improvement you should make. 1. Those 25mm sw cables are too small for the 3kw Multi, minimum of 70mm sw according to Victron. 2. No fuses on the main power wires! Even though that battery has a BMS and the run is short it is unprotected and a 12v arc from a lithium battery is nothing to laugh about! 3. Get some 25mm threaded conduit couplers for the Multiplus for the 240v wiring. 4. I didn't see any programming of the Multiplus. It needs to be programmed to work properly for lithium. Ie also setting the AC current input to 10A since you are using a 10A power inlet. Other than that a good setup. The Multiplus also has an AC transfer switch, so when you are plugged in the load runs directly from the mains and powered the charger too. It would be very inefficient to charge the battery then run an inverter when on mains power.

All good comments and looking into it. Will be revisiting the project as I’ve ordered a duel pole DC isolator, fuses and a few more bits and pieces

Hey mate. Would it worth getting a bigger cable size to match the max output of the inverter in case you wanted to pull 3000watts for Justin?

When your on 240v meaning charging it will switch the induction over to 240v so 2000w would only be pulling 8amps.. compared to if your using it not on mains..it would be pulling 166 amps.. that's why when your charging it wasn't showing more then 90amps

What diameter was that thick cable, mate? It looks a lot more flexible than the 00awg (70mm2) I was using.

Dave I don’t get it why spend a couple of grand on stuff ( my estimate of all your electrical parts) even though you had it lying around as opposed to a $20 butane cooker? Butane cans $6 for 3 and just dispose of in a recycle bin. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy your vids, but you seem to like it complex. Just my opinion.

@bradrein08
@bradrein08 3 жыл бұрын
Peter, that is true about butane cooker and will work, but you can’t compare butane to induction if you can afford or do it. Butane is heavily affected by wind and cold where they just won’t work at all. Induction isn’t effected by any of that and you don’t need to carry gas.
@rycohose01
@rycohose01 3 жыл бұрын
I except all your reasons. I have experienced the butane stoves in the cold but how often is that going to happen. Also Dave is right boiling water on a butane stove would be dull. I do enjoy your vids but I’m not a patrol driver, love the sound though. Cheers

Wouldn't it better to mount the electrical components on the wall under the clamp?. That weatherproof storage is too good to be turned into perm storage just for the electrical components.
