There are going to be flashbacks. Can't see how they can be avoided. And there are great parts to fill. Who will be the Kurgan? Clancy Brown's Kurgan was tremendous. Who will be Sean Connery? It always amused me that the Highlander was French, and his Spaniard mentor was Scottish. Sean Connery made no attempt whatsoever to change his accent. He just got so good at what he did he didn't have to! The relationships, and secrets between the original characters lasted over centuries. I hope this reboot retains that as a core element in its story.

Well if he's an Immortal Scotish guy, the idea is that he learned to fight as a Scotish warrior. That's probably the issue that people may have. But he may have learned other skills from other cultures along the way which i would not have a problem with. My only thing with the movie and it may be artificial for others but I would love Cavill to have long hair in the present day. In the original movie, Chris Lambert had long hair in the past and short hair in present but I wished Cavill had long hair in present day. To see him swiging his word with long hair would be cool to see.

The Tv-show was far better than the movies imo. Re 'martial artist' ultimately depends upon how its done. All of this sounds good, actually. Particularly the fact that they're creating a different story, rather than trying to remake the original, which would've been a mistake... just look at the Crow remake of this year. I'm a huge fan of this franchise, including the TV series, the Cartoon series and the anime film (which is awesome both as an anime and as a Highlander film). However, I would've love this to have been "The Kurgan", rather than what it is. Henry Cavill would've made an incredible young Kurgan, in the stepes of Russia, a Conan type film in the flashbacks, reaching to the 1980's, just before he got to New York for the Gathering. He might've even begun as heroic as MacLeod and only afterwards becoming evil. The idea would be to show, "down througth the centuries", how that character reached that niilist state he was in at the time of the first film. That's what I'd like to have seen and considering that that was in the original script but was cut from the film by the filmakers prefering to present the Kurgan as a comic book villain (a great one, but still almost one dimentional), I think it would complete the original in a great way. It could have been cool (an this is just something I'd like) to have had the Kurgan in the Past being hunted by Meethos (a character from the tv show that is 4000 years old but that keeps himself out of the "game") and having The Kurgan be the reason for Meethos to have hid and stop taking heads. There are things from the TV show that could've been introduced, like the concept of the Dark Quickening, for example.

Makes sense to me. Veteran martial artists tend to always be learning new styles and techniques in the interest of rounding themselves out, and lots of martial arts styles involve sword play, so that fits in perfectly, if you ask me. The OG "Highlander" is one of my favorite movies of the 80's with one of my favorite movie villains ever, and I agree that the movies after the first one were pretty awful. The TV series was really good, though, and it might be nice to see Adrian Paul in a role in this movie as an acknowledgment of the series. Plus, it's Henry Cavill! He's a class act, he's legit one of us (nerdy), and it's not like he's unfamiliar with sword play. I might could make time for this movie.

The issue I have with the John Wick movies is the fight scenes are just not thrilling, compared to classic action movies where action had a strong arc with the storytelling, and was not shred to bits in the editing room.
