Civilian bands take note. The drummers do not wear their sporrans on their arse.

RidseardMhicCoinnich The side drummers of The Highlanders (above) and Black Watch battalions of The Royal Regiment of Scotland don't wear sporrans at all. The side drummers of The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland do wear sporrans and wear them at their 5 o'clock.

MSD88 This may have come to be when the Royal Regiment of Scotland was formed from Highland and Lowland Regiments. The Lowland Div drummers wore trews and only the Highland Div drummers were kilted and did not wear the sporran on parade. I can't say that I've noticed the 1st and 2nd Bn since the formation but will look out for it. I'am ex Q.O. Hldr from 61 onwards.

RidseardMhicCoinnich The Royal Scots Borderers, 1st battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (1SCOTS) drummers are still in trews given their former antecedent individual regiments' drummers (The Royal Scots and The King's Own Scottish Borderers) both wore trews before their amalgamation. The Royal Highland Fusiliers (2SCOTS) drummers are essentially kitted out the same as The Highlanders (4SCOTS) above, and The Black Watch (3SCOTS) but the sporran is still part of the uniform, and was when it was an individual regiment prior to 2006.

MSD88 The RHF drummers wore MacKenzie trews, and as far as I'am aware still do. The Highlanders 4SCOTS pipe band wear Cameron of Erracht kilts, as the antecedent Regt did since 1961 onwards. Even after amalgamation with the Gordon's in 94.

MSD88 In full dress, the drummers in the Highlanders have not regularly worn a sporran since the formation of the regiment in 1994, ......They do wear it with other forms of dress though.

From France. I love these pipe and drum bands, the beauty of the uniforms and these rhythmic marches. It's really nice to watch and listen to how nice it is to share this culture with people from the other side of the world. Scotland, Japan, France, beautiful and culturally rich countries.
