As a Crew fan, I’m happy I wasn’t the only one who thought that lol. Ref was terrible for both clubs, and despite me being a die-hard Crew fan, this was the first match I had watched in *years* where I genuinely struggled to watch the game. That being said, I think the reffing got into our side’s heads, which makes sense considering how young a team we still are. Despite the reffing, still a very good performance from NYCFC, and an honestly disappointing one from the Crew. If Patty wasn’t in goal, that is no doubt three points for NYCFC.

Aside from the horrible (and I mean absolutely horrific) refereeing, that atmosphere was absolutely crazy. When that goal went in it may not sound too crazy with the highlights but man being there and watching it go in was absolutely crazy. Couldn’t even describe to you how loud it got. And then the “F*ck you Ref” mixed with the “Ref you suck” chants made it a whole lot better 💛🖤

Yep they did they checked it and no pk...I was at a pro referee thing after the game and the center said it was checked. I looked flabbergasted at him like dude you should have called that it was RIGHT in front of you!!!

A) Can our defense stop having so many lapses in concentration? They kept getting beat for absolutely no reason and had to get bailed out by Schulte on numerous occasions. Second, the officiating in this game was so horrible, incompetent and out of touch that it should be used as the primary textbook example on how not to officiate a soccer game and the entire referee crew needs to be under investigation, fired and get whatever licenses they have revoked for how much of a sham this was. The fans and teams also deserve a public apology from the league and PRO at minimum as well and have every card handed out in dissent or other bogus reasons be revoked by Monday. There is absolutely no reason that a ref should feel the need to hand out cards on 13 different occasions in a match like this.

@@mattd2026 It’s not just Degenek though. There were multiple instances in the first half where our defense should have done better but didn’t. Moreira for sure is also an issue as he kept letting attackers get behind him and failed to cut off through balls to compensate.

MLS does not seem to see VAR as a tool to take the Ref’s ego out of the equation. By being used only at their discretion it feeds the power they have to stick to a bad call and fix the outcome of the match. Independent authority for VAR that answers only to MLS HQ is badly needed

That referee had no control of the game. None. Inconsistent. Giving out cards like candy. Both teams and coaches were frustrated. While I can understand suspending the assistant for throwing water at the side ref, giving Nancy more than minimum suspension and missing the rivalry game as a result is a JOKE! Shame on the MLS. Credit to Columbus for showing some grit and forcing a tie.

Can somebody explain to me why Nancy was sent off?? Looks like a crew assistant threw the water bottle and I know he ended up getting a red too but why Nancy?? Cause he stepped on the field? Because Nancy entered the field in a confrontational way in dissent. Straight from IFAB Law 12.3 Disciplinary Action: “Sending off.. deliberately leaving the technical field to show dissent towards or remonstrate with a match official…” Hope this helps
