I wanted to share the MANY slugs viewers have sent us to test out. Some have been waiting over a year. We haven't forgotten.

The stainless nose cone is a security style nut. I've used them on ornamental iron fences.

You can make it into a slug by making it a cut shell or putting hard wax in it to encase the buckshot.

It's not often you see ammo/projectiles that look that pretty! All of them were fascinating to look at. Side note: I have seen a photo of those door breachers before with a brief description of them, I think in an old magazine. (This was several years ago so forgive me if my memory is bad): It's a composite slug made of a copper powder and polymer mix. I think it said velocity was around 1,200fps.

Those Remington Accutip Sabot Slugs are my go to. I buy them every time they are back in stock online at Cabelas. They are pushing $25.00 per box but worth every penny. Hornady SST Sabots are cheaper but no comparison to the Accutip. The only other slugs that even performs close to these are the Federal Trophy Copper Sabot Slugs.

Maybe consider moving the operation to a state with more shooters, maybe just temporary. Prep the slugs, pack the camera gear and do some road tripping. Mat has been talking about collaborating with KZbinrs at his new resort. Maybe you could set up some shoots there.

Hey! Since i have a really weird hobby, recreating these slugs in cad and simulate their ballistic impact behavior with FEA (Ansys), it would be really cool to have the rough measures of these slugs. A simple image with them lying flat with a scale somewhere beside them would be exceptionally cool. @@taofledermaus As well I know. For myself, just finding time to do all the things related to load development is a hassle. For all the slugs you showed off, to load them, etc. ...logistics,...then to find someone to shoot them on camera for you in a safe and respectable way...! In a day or two or three... I get it, I grasp the amount of work involved. Don't rush, do all these nifty slugs justice, savvy. Much respect and many thanks!

They aren't too expensive luckily and they might sell replacement parts like the LED screen. I can use the broken one for parts if anything.

i am thinking about building apfsds darts for a shotgun just to send them to you but i need info for that. my idea was to take about 4mm thick tungsten rod and make a 10cm finned dart which would reach to the bottom of the case like a modern 120mm apfsds round. so it would stick out about 1,5cm from the top of the shell and the finns would be sticking into the powder. would that be possible and safe to do? or would the finns sticking into the powder cause issues? the sabot would be the next point... would it be better if it had a flat bottom to act like a pressure seal or would it need to have a cone shape at the end? to make the rod and sabot stay together in the barrel i would cut rings around the tungsten rod that the sabot could lock in to

Shooting at a deer at 270yards with a 12ga? I don’t know a single hunter who would take that shot. Odds of a wound and not a kill way too high. Then a possible long distance track? Nope.

Very few people would or could take that shot. John, is an exceptional shooter. The deer dropped on the spot.

@@taofledermaus I don’t care if I was hitting a bullseye at 270 all day long. Not taking that shot on a deer with a 12ga. Period. Rifle? Sure. Wouldn’t hunt with someone who would. An ethical shot is the only way to go, if you can’t assure the animal is going down when you pull that trigger you shouldn’t be shooting.
