As background info on this particular video, J None left VoicePlay in 2021 to sing for the US Navy, so his rap being about fighting and 'ops', etc. is especially apt as is him walking into the 'longhouse' from a separate location at first. He comes back regularly to sing with VoicePlay when he can get leave, but he is considered 'featured' because he is not currently a VoicePlay member. Many of us hope he will return permanently after his tour of duty is done. Note that when J walks in, that creaky door noise and close is all done by Layne's voice. J None also raps in their cover of "Superstition". Both raps were written for VoicePlay by Alfredo Austin (as credited in the description). Surprisingly, VoicePlay has used rap in other videos, too - done by Layne and one with mostly Eli (a cover from Hamilton, "My Shot"), but with bits by all of them as well as singing. And since you commented on the 'CGI' backgrounds, I'll let you know that they were actually done by Eli in a game design software called Unreal Engine. This particular video was also unusual in that it was filmed in a different production house than they usually use. This was filmed at 'Vu' which has giant LED screen walls so the background is projected at time of filming instead of green screened. Usually, VoicePlay films at PattyCake Productions, which is co-owned by Layne and Tony Wakim (a past VP member, who decided he preferred to be behind the scenes. He was the baritone before J None, who was before Cesar. He was also the shadowed figure in "HellFire"). And while video editing is often done by whomever does the arrangement for the song (Geoff or Layne), I'm pretty sure this one was Eli.
@ronsbrat525 Жыл бұрын
This one was Layne. Eli (pronounced like jelly) found and set up with Vü Studios the background. Also. The AC broke down that day so they were filming all day in those heavy hot costumes. But being the Vikings they are forged on. This is the sequel to their Viking video "My Mother Told Me" they did a little over a year ago. Same characters and costumes. Except.... Cesar is in place of Jose Rosario Jr. He is wearing Jose's costume and Geoff's top. So Geoff is wearing the fur he had on his shoulder as a top. You can see Jose in their videos... "My Mother Told Me", "Hoist The Colours" and "Drunken Sailor".

Eli used to sing with a metal tribute band.... and Layne was originally a baritone but took over vocal percussion when Scott Porter left to persue an acting career. (He can be seen featured in Halo theme). Voiceplay have a brilliant sense of humour too and show it in their Disney medleys. Geoff also does a brilliant tongue in cheek version of way down by Elvis ... with choreography 😅... another fun fact is that Geoff arranged Home Free's cover of Elvira... Rob also features in their top 10 movie themes.... for a side aching chuckle perhaps check out Road trip by Voiceplay.... it's an oldie with members that are no longer part of the group... lots of fun and very relatable. 😊.

I think it's been commented before, but VoicePlay takes a few more liberties with post production because they're not a touring group. (they used to, but the global pandemic stopped them going forward.) They don't have to worry about having to reproduce some of the notes/sounds with a live audience. Fun note on this video, Eli produced the background on Unreal Engine (he also did it with their My Mother Told Me), so you're not far off on the CGI comment. Another great group to get into is the Bass Gang. They just did a series of Disney songs, but do a lot of different genres too.

All the backgrounds scenery in this video was made by Eli with a software called, if I'm not mistaken, "Unreal Engine" or something of the like. Then they went to a different studio (not Pattycake Productions, this time), which had full wall LED screens they projected the backgrounds through. Even the big, wooden, creaking door J None uses to "come into the hall and join the others" never existed... Nor creaked (it was Layne who made that sound, but don't ask me how! 😅). The problem has been that the AC broke, and they were wearing full furs and leather Viking stuff with 100° or so 😱... In this song, Geoff hits THREE times a B0, which is the third key of a full 88 keys piano. 😁 Liked your reaction, I knew you'd love this one. 🙂 Now I lay back and wait for "Nothing else matters" 😁 See you next time! PS: BTW, they just sang together with the band "Chicago" in Atlantic City, for two nights. Not "opened for", they SANG TOGETHER with them. Not bad... ❤

Valhalla Calling was written and first performed by a man who goes by Miracle of Sound. His first video was solo, but then he did a couple more versions; first with Peyton Parrish, then with Peyton Parrish and Eric Hollaway (be ready for an earthquake deep voice with Eric). Payton Parrish has done a solo version himself. MiS loved VoicePlay's version of his piece and gave it 10 out of 10 raised ale horns. There are several versions out there-first his ORIGINAL original, with just him. He put a bit of it on TikTok and invited others to sing along, and saw Peyton Parrish, and invited him to do a duet version, then Eric Hollaway did a contribution and they invited HIM to do a full version with them. Check out tomi p wayfaring stranger. He hits an impossibly low C0 inhale at around 140

Speaking as a musician losing their ears: 1) I do not *dare* drink anything during #voiceplay songs - i was waiting for the spittakes... 2) I literally have to take my beta blockers to cope with these covers 😇 especially hoist the colours and nothing else matters :)

Love those tracks ☺️

You should really react to Oogie Boogie's song, Geoff's an amazing lead in that one

We will have to check it out 😊

I consider Voiceplay and Pentatonix to be roughly equivalent. Home Free are fun, and sing well, but the creativity of the first two, in arrangements particularly, edges out Home Free just a bit. My heart is with Pentatonix.

We are hoping to check out some Pentatonix in the future. We have listened to one but the reaction has been banned world wide 😂

Geoff with his two sustained b0s is disgusting in the best way possible. The practice shorts where for the sustained b0 into his lyrics towards the beginning cause even for him and Tim that is absurdly low

Just wanted to let you know you,re pronouncing Eli's name wrong ....Hey guys love your channel, love seeing reactions to voice play, home free and hopefully soon you will check out pentatonix, just wanted to let you know Eli's name is pronounced Eleee with an e sound not an I sound I think it's short for Eliot

Actually, his name is Eliezar.

Yeah its definitely a tricky one, the name pronunciation has been rectified for all future Voiceplay videos 😊 Thank you for your kind words
