Your music helped me quit heroin and Xanax. Not fkn easy, please no one start up but if your addicted now I was on opiates for 21yrs and benzos for 18yrs. It is possible, instead of rehab me and my fiancé just deleted all our connections numbers, changed ours and just sat in our basement room for what felt like an eternity. After feeling like I was dying for weeks I finally started feeling better. Now everything in my life is amazing. Here's the thing. People who are used to the HS sound and got hooked to them cos of Mr. Asylum obviously only like this, canals, upperdrugs and possibly SOS because they're the only songs that are familiar to the old HS. I personally don't like every song on the album and that's okay. Changing up might seem bad for people craving rock n roll HS but you have to understand that these guys are humans too and you can't keep producing the same shit for years without a drop in quality. Even veterans like The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys switched up their styles and people didn't like their latter albums either, can't please em all. I'd rather have HS trying new stuff and failing/learning than have them fail at what made me fall in love with them.

I've been there too, going on about 2 years now but it's a fucking struggle everyday and from what I hear I think it will be for the rest of forever so that's awesome. I completely understand about the not wanting to feel pain anymore, you just get sick and tired of being fucking sick and fucking tired. the life of an addict is not a fun life, no one wakes up one day and says yep that's what I want to do with my life..it just fucking happens and before you know it your life is in a world of shit and you barely know how it started. and if I understood you comment correctly, things aren't looking so hot for you right now, but that does not define you, remember you have fought an addiction to cocaine and Adderall before and whatever it is you're doing now you'll get through it. people always ask what happened, or what changed, what was your rock bottom? but I think it's different for everyone and you have to hit rock bottom HARD more than once, fuck I hit rock bottom probably a good 250 times before and after being homeless countless times and overdosing more times than I can remember.. I decided enough was enough but I think about it every fucking day of my life since I quit about 2 years ago and it sucks. but you are not alone. I really really hope you have a support system that you can lean on, family or friends that you can trust I know that's not easy to come by in some circumstances. people I thought were my friends stole everything that I owned when I was homeless which was one Rubbermaid tote of pictures of my son so people are fucking monsters especially in that world. I haven't really done much of AA or anything but I do think that the saying one day at a time does hold some weight because it is true, fuck sometimes it's one minute at a time.. just not going to use this one minute and then the next minute becomes another minute and then pretty soon you haven't used for an hour so on and so forth. Ah fuck, I went on rambling again.. I'm not trying to sound like a goddamn psychiatrist I don't know shit about shit I'm a fucking junkie that's been clean a measly two years if that but I always like to let people know that they are not alone and that I applaud people for reaching out and sharing their stories because it's not easy to admit the demons that we face.. so bravo to you. and I don't know if this helps or sounds stupid but I don't care, if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm a pretty good listener so I've been told. ❤️❤️

Mental illness and past trauma play a massive part in internal turmoil. My mind is my worst enemy most days because traumatic memories come to the surface uninvited, and I have to relive those moments like a movie. I don't want to numb my pain with substances. I fight every day not to, and I won't give up. I lean on the few that I trust to help support me with this battle for a soundboard and accountability. Thank you so much for your offer of a listening ear. Even if you believe that two years is minimal for staying clean, it is a huge accomplishment, and you deserve recognition and praise for being vital to the fight against the urge to revert to old habits. I couldn’t listen to this song or Upperdrugs for a long time. Around the time it came out, I was in the military and things were bad. I was being abused by someone in my chain of command, I was separated geographically from my husband at opposite ends of the country, deeply depressed, and convinced I was unworthy of love and my own life. I was deeply suicidal and damn near every day was a fight to make it to the next one. Too many days where I thought I was going to die and I wanted it to happen. It was a horribly dark period in my life and those songs used to remind me of how much pain I was in. Almost three years later, after leaving the military and getting the help I need, I listened to the songs again. I’m reminded of how dark that time in my life was and all the pain I was in - but I also think about how far I’ve come since then and how hard I’ve fought. I found my way guys. I know there’s low likelihood of you guys reading this 5 years after its release, but if you do, I’m still here, I’m still fighting, and I’m still listening. I love you all.

I couldn't agree more man. I mean he's the rockstar it's his music but the way he talked about this album felt kind of arrogant. I mean he said he doesn't want 'fake fans' well what about your real fans who love your rock and roll. Like idk. For me a musician is only where they are at because of your fans. So to me you should at least take their point of view into consideration. Like you got where you are because you had a sound that was different and people loved it. Now I'm all for switching stuff up and doing something completely off the wall. But he was just so fucking dickish about the whole project and then its....... I mean it's Highly Suspect so it's good. Great lyrics in basically every song. But fuck man. Nothing grabbed me like their shit before. I can literally tell you where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard Lydia and Wolf. I like Arizona, not as much as Seratonia, but its a nice slow for HS. Overall this album seems further from what drew me to them as a fan. Its very commercialized and more poppy. I'm a bit disappointed the band is going away from their original style. It was what separated & defined them.

It can be too much, yes. Vinyl was replaced by better tech and it's quite a niche that's probably not worth the investment for most bands. I still buy CDs to get the best quality music possible, plus they come with a digital version on Amazon. That "warm" sound you get with vinyl is actually just distortion.
