@HighPeakAutos4 жыл бұрын
vincent o'donnell Yeah but we cant all buy Toyota Corollas - that would be boring
@Edmund_Mallory_Hardgrove4 жыл бұрын
I like Kilmer's channel, his recommendations are perfect for the average car buyer. Most people, at least here in the states, buy too much car. They buy cars they can't really afford. The kind of buyer with ONLY $10k-$20k to spend on a car probably SHOULD NOT buy a $10k-$20k used BMW, Range Rover, Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, or Audi. They probably should stick to Toyotas and Hondas. While they are attracted to the looks of the luxury brands, they don't have the resources, desire, or skill, to maintain the cars. Scotty's advice is sound for those people. For example once a Range Rover L322 is on it's 3rd, 4th, or even 5th owner, there is 99.9% chance that it hasn't been maintained. The first owner had the dealership do everything and traded it slightly before or after the warranty expired. The second buyer probably still paid a handsome price and had reasonable resources, and there is a good chance they did a good job keeping the car serviced. By the third owner of the L322 they bought the car when it's price was in the $10k-$20k which was likely all the budget they could afford for transportation. Preventative maintenance starts to be neglected, repairs are made as things break IF they immobilize the car, and ONLY enough is done to get it back on the road. Mechanics that aren't familiar with the makes or models are used. All resulting in the owner dumping the car on the market for whatever they can get.

Because of the money you have spent(plus the cosmetic cost yet to be spent). I doubt you will have any trouble selling it. The Biggest problem with buying BMW's is, the few people who buy them DON'T keep them long so they don't take any care of the car, moving it on as soon as they find issues. My first Beemer was an E36(It was a cat C. I miss that car) 323i 4door with 8 previous owners(it had ALOT of issues because of neglect) I now own an E46 325 sport auto. The only thing I've done is. Bilstein suspension kit(the OE suspension is of POOR quality). It may be a harsher ride but, it transformed high speed handling.

Enjoyed this vid Matt. Nice update and I’m not surprised at the costs. Did the BMW specialist inspect the rear subframe mounts for cracking? This is a known flaw on these and most buyers will want evidence of no cracks as a minimum, or more likely that one of the preventive fixes has been undertaken. Also, to ask top money for this you might want to replace the boot lid as for some reason yours has a pre facelift (pre 2004) one. It’s a small detail, but would irk some potential buyers who have done their research. I think you should hang onto it though and do an ownership series. I agree with the other comment that you won’t turn a profit on this simply because it’s just about the least desirable spec. Sorry if you think I’ve been harsh. About 5 years ago I bought a dark metallic grey, manual coupe with red interior, paid £12k, did 15k miles in it and sold it for £11k 14 months later to the trader I bought it from originally just for a quick sale. At the time similar condition silver SMG convertibles were £9-10k tops.

Cheers! The subframe is all good. I'm optimistic about the sale price because I'm going to make this the best example out there. BMW's are not made to last imho. That thing is kinda falling apart lol Those m3's where out before the SAE changed the regulations and car manufacturers could exaggerate on HP figures so in reality, you would be quite lucky to see 280hp to the wheels, especially with 100k on the clock. For £13 or £14'000 there's better options out there.... I have a 315hp 2008 350z with 60k on the clock with Brembo brakes an LSD etc etc, all in all, a very similar car and to me the cost and maintenance schedule of that thing is insane. There are examples of the 350z with 200k on the clock running strong and mine has needed virtually nothing fixed and probably cost 60% or less than the M3. You would need to be a real BMW enthusiast to put up with all that lol but good luck, I look forward to you posting up a video about how the whole rear subframe of the car has collapsed and all the inevitable rust problems, but good luck and enjoy driving it!

A couple of months ago a 2003 low milage, pristine M3 sold on the bring a trailer site for $90K. So, there is that. I have a 2003; 330CI with about $10K into, but love the car. For me the E46 is the perfect drivers car.

I agree! I'm trying to make this one the best example out there :)

If it makes you feel any better. I have an E46 330ci and have spent....£7800 on repairs. I wanted an M3 but didn’t have the initial outlay. I too use Darren Wood. Excellent garage but the wait means they only ever diagnose as I can’t wait a month for them to repair!

Thats the trouble. A lot of the time I cannot wait either

Main dealers are rip off merchants take it to a reputable local garage you’ll soon find it a lot cheaper

Still own my E46 coupe, still the best car I've ever owned. He should have spent more and bought a nicer car., Mine has only done 24,000 miles, and l haven't spent a penny on it apart from servicing and I've had it for nearly four years!

Matt, who do you use for diamond cut wheels?? We used to use pristine but they’re a fortune, found a place in Bradford,£60 a wheel inc tyres off and on,cut and lacquered ....AND ready next day !! Let me know if you want their details

I own an e46 m3 w/ 90k which started off great. Once you buy one, get SMG and Vanos serviced and you're good as gold. Swap all Salmon relays. Perfect car.

Ouch !! But you have almost minted the car. What does bother me is a 2 owner car with full service history, who did the service ? The archbishop of Canterbury! I would give them a wide berth
@HighPeakAutos4 жыл бұрын
dave watts It was overdue a service and the last owner had owned it for 11 years so I’m guessing just lost interest in maintaining it

Hi Matt. Great car, great purchase, and a really level headed honest and wise chap that currently sits in the driver's seat. If you are thinking of keeping it as your daily driver, I would personally say "Go For It". In your own words, Matt this mint example convertible ( when finished ) will only appreciate in value especially in the hot summer months will seem to be having in good old blighty 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌 Reg`s Steve.

@@HighPeakAutos Hi Matt, I think this is a very wise decision. When I was your age ( not so long ago !!!!!!!!! ) I sold a Cortina Mk5 in mint condition with only 25`000 miles on the clock ( 1 previous owner ) for £2,500. If I would have kept hold of my purchase ( stored ) I would be now looking at £12,500, not a bad profit don't you think ?. Classic cars will only appreciate and not depreciate. Total regards Steve

I would recommend getting an E46 Android headunit from eBay the beauty is the slot straight in and look stock OEM brings it right into the 21CN.

I've considered that but I'm a bit of a weirdo and like originality

techoseller I fitted an Erisen head unit, designed to fit e46 dash. Great head units
@Edmund_Mallory_Hardgrove4 жыл бұрын
@@HighPeakAutos I'm the same way. I like the original head units in my cars. Perhaps I'm not enough of an audiophile or gadget geek to appreciate the improved features of an aftermarket unit. The dash just looks better with the original unit. A new head unit makes the car look molested.
@williamoakes6644 жыл бұрын
techoseller agreed, don’t waste your money (appreciate the oem bit but who needs an archaic sat nav when you can use your phone now with Waze etc)....better stereo with better Bluetooth I would have thought would only be a bonus....just get a subtle one that works with the dash. I’m searching for one of these cars at the moment but the second I see this head unit (with the big screen) im put off, would rather have the more basic unit.
@techoseller4 жыл бұрын
I think the beauty of these android aftermarket head units are that they are not a generic unit they are made specific to the car and made to look and fit like a factory unit even the LED colours of the buttons match the rest of the car as well as the plastic etc and intergrates with all steering wheel controls etc. Every person who has seen mine has been blown away by the quality
@SteveM-ly7oy4 жыл бұрын
If the car has a full service history why was there so much wrong with it? Is it because a 'service' is just an oil and filter change and BMW don't bother checking belts etc?? What the hell was the previous owner doing?
@HighPeakAutos4 жыл бұрын
It had full history but it was due a service. I could have done the bare minimum and it would have cost me a fraction of the cost but that wouldn't be right. The car deserves better :)
@miketurin52334 жыл бұрын
It’s a great car and you will enjoy it. But If this car has a full service history why was there so much work, maintenance and parts needed?! I suspect the previous garage did not do their job properly or did the previous owner reject all the maintenance that was required. All up I see a car that has not been serviced at all.
@HighPeakAutos4 жыл бұрын
It was due a service and because of its age a lot of parts needed to be replaced. It must have been neglected for the last 12 months or so I imagine. Also, I could have not done a lot of these repairs and still managed to sell it on but I wanted to give it the attention it deserves :)

To see a 2nd hand car dealer go to this much effort to sell a car is so refreshing. We all know the guys who would get it through the MOT and wait to sell it to an unaware naive car purchaser at £16k-£20k. This guy is restoring faith in the business with his channel.

That's a keeper if ever I saw one. Beautiful car but 15K seems a stretch tbh. Having said that, given the amount of work going into this motor probably makes it the best example on the road right now. I'll be interested to know what this goes for in the end. Also, I've just visited your web site and that Jaguar XF 3.0 TD V6 Premium Luxury 4dr looks pristine & it's only going for £5995.00! Have you reviewed that one yet? I own an 02 M3 Convertible with 89,000 miles 6 spd manual. I bought it from the original owner in 2008 with 40,000 miles. There have been few problems in past 11 years. One cam sensor, one window regulator, fuel suction pump and fan speed controller. The Takata airbags were replaced under warranty. The engine was also replaced under warranty by original owner due to connection rod recall. With regular maintenance, It’s been a great car! Its always garaged, so there’s no Rust issues or UV damage. I can understand why prices are on the rise. I won’t be selling it soon.

Suggestion: Perhaps not on ALL your cars, but I do like this kind of series format on interesting cars. Cars like Jaguars, Land Rovers, BMWs, Mercedes Benz, Porsches, etc. It shows people what's involved in buying and properly sorting these cars. It will also do a great service for people who probably should listen to Scotty Kilmore and stick with Toyotas and Hondas.
