The Zion Mt. Carmel Highway (SR-9 or HWY 9), the road in and through Zion National Park is one of the most scenic highways one can drive or (even better) ride on.
It is hard to keep your eyes on the road with so much beautiful scenery.
The movie takes you through the whole park, entering at the East entrance and exiting at the south entrance. It takes only 22 minutes to ride through this national park.
One of the best roads I have ever seen.

In 1962, I travel this road with my family in a 1959 Chevy Parkwood station wagon. I was 12 years old and had my younger brother and sister along, with my Dad and Mom. I remember, around the 16.00 minute mark, looking out the right side of the car, and it was scary! I told my mom, "I don't know if i should go to sleep, or die!" LOL! It was the last vacation from Pittsburgh to California that our family made, to visit old neighbors who moved to California in 1960. My Dad died not long afterwards, so a vacation like this, which was 2 weeks long was quite memorable to me. So watching this, for the first time, since seeing it live, in 1962, brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for recalling such a wonderful time of my childhood, now that i am at the end of my life.

@@longhair2678 It's supremely useful land for human development (easy and cheap agriculture, transportation, and urban buildup options). Mostly flat(ish) open land with easy river access. It's very useful for the US to have. A lot more important than say Oregon or Utah despite the lack of comparable natural beauty and grandeur. I live in Illinois but i'm no fool. I would never trade what Illinois has for mountains and desert. The US would have gotten nowhere fast if the lands immediately west of the Appalachians were like the western US.

@@RedondoBeach2 This is basically a drive "through" the park. You don't see any actual trails here. However, there are many videos of Angel's Landing hike on here if you enter it in the search. I only drove through 1 time, this exact drive except I was coming from the other direction in Springdale. If you've never been, you will be delighted!! As far as the hikes, follow Zion NPS on Twitter and you'll get trail conditions, parking suggestion, etc based on current conditions. Although I've only been once and live on the east coast (GA), I follow because I fell in love and enjoy seeing what's happening there...and I desperately hope to return one day!

@@DivaInTheWoods Hey, thanks for replying. I did the hike on December 2nd. I was able to get to Walter's Wiggles. At that point the ice and snow on the trail was too much. I did not have crampons to keep pressing forward. However, since the temperature was in the mid-40s, I decided to give it another try the next day and I'm glad I did. Although that part of the trail was still slushy, enough of it cleared up for me to hike to Scout's Lookout. When I got there, I decided to continue on the Angel's Landing trail but only got 50-60 yards on the chains before I decided that I needed to turn around. The videos really cannot effectively convey the danger of this trail. The sandstone was still wet from melting snow (no snow/ice directly on the path) and there was small amounts of loose sand along the way as well. I had the strength and stamina to continue forward, but lacked the confidence, and that's absolutely key. So I'm glad that I did turn around. I intend to be back again for another hike to Scout's Lookout, and to hike the full length of the West Rim Trail. However, Angel's Landing is a no-go for me. Tragically, another person died on the Angel's Landing trail this November. I understand she was a local. Sympathy to her family and friends.

My family vacationed here in the early 90’s and 00’s. We’ve all got older and don’t go anymore. Haven’t been for 16 years. My God. 16 years. I have to go back. I just have to. This place is magical. And I’m sure a lot more busy now...which bums me out. Amazing how time and generations go by and you don’t realize how much ‘this is your time’ and ‘how fast it goes’. Enjoy everyone. Youth is...well...wonderful. I took it for granted and though I would be young forever. But..it’s not like that.

I found it shocking going back even 15 years ago. It sucks riding on a shuttle with tourists. It's good for the air quality, but still... if you grew up in the time where you could drive through it yourself, with only a fraction of the people knowing of its existence... it's not the same. I don't think I'll ever go back.

I've been motorcycling for just over 3 years and have only 50,000 miles under my belt...mostly in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. So, I consider myself to be a beginner. I'm planning a 2019 spring trip to the National Parks in Utah. On Google Maps, the switchbacks after the mile tunnel look intimidating. They look like what you'd find on Passo dello Stelvio in Italy! Your video gave me the ability to make a much more informed assessment of the road and I'm now looking forward to riding it. Your video is beautiful...I like the highly saturated colors that the evening light gave you, and the smoothness of the camera-work is very professional. Your choice of music and the mystical scenery of the Zion area are perfectly synchronized. Thank you for having done this... I'll enjoy it many more times.

Have you ever experienced the Wasatch Front (Salt lake City metro area) in the winter? The air quality is awful. Unfortunately, Utah is not even close to being one of the cleanest places in the contiguous states. And the people? They'd rather let Trump sell Zion off to some shady corporation that would build crappy motels and fast-food joints there than have it be owned by the people of the USA and operated by the National Park Service.

I first visited Zion Park in 1980 aboard a Green Tortoise Bus out of New York City. In 1991, I returned to Zion to work as a seasonal park ranger and stayed for only the one season. I have visited the park several times since then and it has always seemed more crowded but I can't blame people for wanting to experience such breathtaking beauty.

If this drive was combined going to Bryce through Grand Staircase, then THAT is the #1 drive anywhere.

I watch a lot of driving videos on KZbin, and this is one of the best. The camera doen't shake much, and the video has few distractions and stays focused on the drive. If I stare intently at my computer screen, it feels almost as if I am there. Well done!

@Dennis Mitchell You are right about the THUMP POUND comment, I agree; however, I'm so glad there is a mute button because this music was also annoying to me. I could imagine riding my (stationary) bike while watching this, but my music of choice would be John Denver's "Country Road, Take Me Home" or the upbeat score to "Joseph and the ATD" :-)
