As a note, every time I look at that solar updraft tower near an industrial center I cry a little (just putting aside the fact that it's comically undersized due to game scaling). The things consume massive amounts of land footprint, and so need the cheapest land possible, which means the middle of an unused field somewhere, not right next to a bustling industrial hub. Furthermore, the operating mechanism of a solar updraft plant is that it uses the higher pressure and temperature of air heated in the greenhouse to pump air up to the peak of the tower, through a wind turbine, to generate power, so by putting it near an industrial center it'll be constantly vacuuming up ground level air pollution and catapulting it up higher, thus increasing the degree to which it spreads outside of the industrial district. That's the other reason you put these things in the middle of a farm.

@NightKnight3473 жыл бұрын
@@rawcus918 Consumed? Absolutely not. One of the hallmarks of the conservative movement is precisely the fact that politics is far removed from daily and only a matter of keeping the government in check. Unlike the left, I don't spend every second of every day stressing out about events that happen far away and trying to force a homogenous society. Positive rights are incredibly destructive to society. This is a city-sim channel, so let's use the infrastructure bill as an example. First, it is called an infrastructure bill, but not even a majority of the spending is on infrastructure. At that, there is no guarantee that the infrastructure is going to be worth the expense. As a matter of fact, almost all of the money will go to blue states that have neglected their infrastructure for decades just waiting for the federal government to bail them out. You are essentially taxing red states to pay for mismanagement and corruption in blue states. What's more, the majority of the bill is simply kickbacks to political allies. If you were a democrat and failed to get your policy through for years, you could slip it into this bill because this bill was guaranteed to go through. Now all of those wildly unpopular policies are law, with trillions in spending, which is further spiraling inflation out of control. All that half-completed high speed rail in blue states is going to be so useful when the dollar continues to spiral into inflationary nonexistence, Weimar Republic style. Do not worry though, the media will continue to meet with the administration in private to guarantee that they can maximize public relations. I comment all this because bad policy has real life consequences, and I simply want people who do not know American politics to understand that (shockingly) the presentation of politics by a youtube video game channel is incredibly superficial. I do not fault CPP because he is only using it as inspiration. I just want people to understand that this bill as as massive and corrupt as has become progressively more typical of our government since Woodrow Wilson. If not for your question, I would have forgotten about this video entirely.

That way, the city keeps the existing interchange (even though it's already been partially demolished), and the local expressway and collector intersection is no longer needed, getting rid of the congestion. And downgrading roads on an existing ROW wouldn't interfere with the rail ROW. And! There'd be more Bob Ross Memorial interchange to detail!

Imagine a type of infrastructure that was extremely flexible, could accommodate every type of transportation from pedestrian to freight to public transit, with minimal to no modifications. It exists, they are called roads. Realistically, roads and cars are going to become way more desirable in the years to come as technology makes cars quieter, safer, and non-polluting. AI will allow, in many places, fleets of smaller buses, running flexible routes to increase transit access in America beyond what is possible in some of the worlds other cities. General thought: I think that the old highway bridges over the river would not likely be demolished. One way to repurpose them could be to extend the new local highway closer back on that old cargo train station and then split into the two legs of the bridge. Both legs should be changed into bydirectional roads, using the one next to the train bridges as a potential service interchange with the highway on the other side of the river and the other one as a totally local connection with a potential new development that would be on the other side of the highway. For the rail: You have mostly divided rails for cargo-passenger except for a short span between Lewis Garden City and the last interchange heading out of the city. Might relief some pressure if you go all in on that separation for this last portion and avoid trains merging on Lewis and splitting for the cargo terminal which is on the other side of the airport highway.

@delvinwolf66113 жыл бұрын
I like doing that in my city builds in the game because I like how it looks (sunken or raised highways, that is). But, as regards CPP not doing it, I suspect it's from the tendency to make things closer to what's seen in the U.S. Much of the Interstate System here doesn't sink into the ground, nor raise above. Instead, it remains at grade and cuts through the landscape. If you've ever seen the Pixar movie Cars, there's a scene that exemplifies this.

So I really think the redevelopment of this highway was a mulligan and needs another pass. The whole idea was supposed to be reconnecting and stitching the city together, instead you just replaced a highway with a two lane road and didn’t add any new connectivity, just a lot of really odd one way connections. I think with a major redevelopment like this you could do a lot more clean up of these odd road connections and instead of replaying the highway with a two lane road, it would still be a large arterial with a ton of new connections to the neighborhoods in either side (similar to your last highway redevelopment). I also know it’s not as realistic due to cost constraints, but I wish you would elevate or sink the railway on this entire stretch.

Honestly, the Bob Ross Interchange should have been wholly replaced with a happier little design. The remaining loops of the old cloverleaf are redundant unless you want to allow a turn-around movement for the highways. Thinking about it a little more, it would seem to me that the primary movement on that highway would be turning towards the north(?) heading out of town because I see the highway which heads towards the airport more as a spur than a through road. So reconfiguring the interchange to reflect that would be more beneficial to the traffic pattern.

Hey, I like the way you're playing, talking, giving information, and solving vanilla problems! One thing, I don't get: why you still use the dirt roads for planning those intersections and ramps? By the time, we all should know that they are causing issues due to different height and pillar constraints. I totally understand using the dirt roads in the early game when you have (almost) no money. But now, you have a lot and could avoid fiddling around to make the dirt roads connect nicely, try to upgrade, notice problems, and rebuild the complete intersection. Just use the final roads ;-)

I know the Bob Ross interchange was a bit of a hassle, but if you felt like rebuilding, you could send the side that swings towards the rail underneath, and the side that goes away from the rail over! Hey, I think you should re-think the connection on your new road that comes out next to your rail bridge, I think it comes out too close to your other junction, and you had the perfect opportunity since it came out over a bridge near the rail junction, to turn at that point while still in the air, and then meet on the other side of your rail bridge in a 90 degree to your connector on the other side of that rail bridge. I hope that actually makes sense. Turn the bridge as it's coming over the rail junction, and just connect on the other side of the rail bridge over the connector. Nice to see Bob Ross get some happy little trees! Happy holidays!

But 7.2 billion decided locally, even if only 10% of those goes to make life easier for people instead of cars, that can make a whole lot of difference in reducing car traffic. And as you said, most of the first part is maintenance that should have been done five or ten years ago. Highways are hideously inefficient and expensive, at least in real life. To fix the cut-through problem between Lewis Lumber and I-10 industrial park, try upgrading the local road in the industrial area to a collector, so that would have the faster movement to River Road. Then, add MORE connectivity, not less - you only had one road between the homes of Lewis Lumber and the jobs of I-10 industrial park. That should entice the freight traffic to the river via the new collector, and disperse other traffic across multiple local streets.

At 1:05:39, although you made expansions of Verde Beach, it still looks somewhat like a butterfly.

I see you built a much nicer T-interchange than the vanilla one that comes with the game. Excellent job! 👍

It talked about animal crossings, you should build Wild life crossings on your highways. And that Bob Ross interchange is looking very nice 👌

Building interchanges are my nightmare, probably why I use tunnels in my cities so often...underground roundabout anyone? 😅
@jwurnig3 жыл бұрын
You could probably afford to turn that final parklow bridge section into a functional roundabout.

At least your train didn't do the Biffa Slingshot lol. Really good interchanges for vanilla, certainly better than I can do without mods

For the second system interchange, you could have swapped the ramps and made the lower one towards the rail and higher one over the open side. More space to descend.

for the bob Ross interchange you can make the ramp heading toward the tracks bend right before making a wide left not hugging the highway.

Interesting episode. I'm not sure if I like the local expressway. One potential fix near the industrial area is to stop the left hand turns and add extra clover leaves. Right now there is only one, which has very large backups.

I like the highway being rerouted but what i don't get is how it was replaced with an expresway. You mentioned connectivity for Myrtle Park but in the end it got nothing extra. It still feels secluded how it is now. Or are you going to expand on that next time?

I say keep the little trumpet as is and call it the Charlie Brown Trumpet. It’s too cute and it’s unique. 🎄

At 53:00 you're talking about the tiny stretch of road that the heavy trucks are using. In the district options, is there a policy for no trucks? I vaguely remember making tiny districts just for that purpose.

At the Bob Ross memorial interchange, the direction that you put on top should be on bottom and the direction you put on bottom should be on top. So that way you don't have to change your rail network. You would have more room for your taller ramp going the other direction

Not gonna lie, that left turn off the express way was pretty much guaranteed to create traffic mayhem.

It looks like the inside loops on the Bob Ross interchange are redundant now. They just let cars coming in off the interstate do a U-turn? I don't know if you want to rebuild that though because the decoration is sooo good. Awesome episode. The ones where you do huge highway projects end up being some of my favorites, I think it's because it's so satisfying watching all the developable space become available.
@pasikokkonen16033 жыл бұрын
Correct. They are now just a U-turn ramps, nothing else.

3 interchanges in one episode, that's rare from you, aesthetic aside, if it works, it works :P Thanks as always :-)
