This episode was filmed at the State Capitol in Sacramento in 1986. I was living there and got word that Michael Landon was coming to town. I and my niece watched some of the scenes being filmed and we got to meet Eddie Albert in person during their lunch break (catered) on the Capitol grounds. I took a picture of my niece and Albert, which I hope she still has. In the scene where the senator has died at 38:20, Landon and Albert are standing in the upper rotunda, Landon with his hands on the railing overlooking the main floor. I was standing about 12 feet away on the other side of the overlook when the scene was shot. Very cool to watch a couple of fine professional actors do their thing up close. Between takes, Landon joked and talked with the crowd. He even made some funny faces that made everyone laugh. Michael Landon (Eugene Orowitz) was superb at acting, producing and directing. He made tv shows the whole family could watch, in the days before television programing went to the dogs. Little did we know that when this episode was filmed, Landon had only a few more years to live. I hope someday another 'ML" will come and make shows like he did.

Oh, how much we need a series like this today! One that knows how to touch on painful issues, and is not afraid to tell the truth. Instead, there is a lot of garbage called "reality", any connection between it and reality is absolutely coincidental!

The hallmark of a great show is when you can attract great talent and give them something substantial to do! It started with Helen Hayes and continued to the last episode. Michael Landon must have enjoyed all the collaborations as immensely as we did watching them.

I remember a senator doing something like this when I lived down in the D.C. area. He held the floor for several hours and read classical literature out loud. It was on the news and had me laughing so hard, tears were streaming down my face. He really wanted to uphold a bill or something.

Most excellent performance by Eddie Albert. I love it when Jonathan reveals his secret in order to get an assignment done. One of the best episodes ive seen . This show had some of the best and most emotional stories i have ever seen on any show, thats ridiculous, i feel like Landon had some enemies in Hollywood, when Victor French died he had a huge plane fly by that had a banner behind it that said "eat shit", kind of weird if you ask me

A lovely programme and it tells the truth. Unfortunately, these lovely people were acting and, in reality, money will always come before life. Unless, of course, you happen to be in a position where those that have the money can use it for their own benefit and to hell with the rest of us. Life has always been that way and it always will be. Never mind, the rest of us will manage and 'they,' with their millions, will end up with nothing; once the 'lid goes on'.

I have no idea how many movies Eddie Albert was in, but I enjoyed him in Escape to Witch Mountain and Return to Witch Mountain. It was quite a thrill to see him in a more serious role as Corky in Highway to Heaven's Jonathan Smith Goes to Washington. I'm afraid it's been so long since I'd seen the episode I've forgotten most of it but his performance in that fillibuster was memorable.

I experienced it on the way to the cemetery to bury my mother . My husband ,who passed only 6 wks later, was in the truck driving us. I hadnt had any flowers in the vehicle recently so i know without a doubt that the overpowering scent of roses that engulfed the vehicle that day was a message from my mother. I thought i was losing my mind from the grief but i looked at my husband and asked did he smell something too. He sniffed ,looked at me with a huge grin and said "yeah, its roses sweetheart ,its your mom'" he confirmed what i already knew. My mother was a huge fan of roses. Ive experienced this " scent from beyond" one other time since her death. She will always be with me ,as well as my husband and my dad.

Yes. My story is too long to recite. A few years previous to incident I had begun to love the words of St Therese d' Lisieux (the Little Flower). Briefly...event, many tables w/ white & red carnations; no other kind of flower. At my table one red rose . I didn't know this. A child at the table drew a flower from vase and handed it to me and said, "This is for you." When I got to my vehicle, there was an overwhelming scent of roses. I So needed this at the time. At least your husband was there to verify. I've had 2 other experiences in my life. But, my admiration and love is for those who have faith without ever having been shown.

Sad to see that this fight over healthcare has been going on/discussed/portrayed for decades - and that the only way some people listen is if they’ve been affected, otherwise money wins out... =========== An influential United States senator (Eddie Albert) is about to vote in favor of cuts in healthcare in the Congressional budget, and none of Jonathan's arguments seem able to change his mind. But when the senator's grandson is hospitalized and may die because of the budget cuts, the senator is made to realize that he must undo what he's done. When his efforts to change his colleagues' minds and votes prove unsuccessful, he resorts to a Congressional filibuster to stall the vote, but a fatal heart attack suffered on the floor may doom his efforts and the assignment to failure ... unless a miracle occurs.

I love this show but Michael kind of annoyed me in this episode. "We are building things that kill instead of things that save." That false dichotomy is a big reason why the healthcare debate will never find a middle ground. First of all, the government doesn't "build" anything. It only takes. Second, if we weren't subsidizing the cost of drugs for other countries, our own drugs wouldn't be so freakin expensive. And finally, the government's number one job is to keep us safe. It's not an either/or thing. So thank GOD they have enough sense to stockpile "things that kill", because we NEED THEM! Evil in this world will always exist. We cannot afford to be naive and think we will have Utopia anytime soon. So yes, bombs with cameras in them are GREAT to have. Good day.

Randall Bowman problem is they are the most relevant ones that everyone ignores One of the salient points of this episode is the fact that we quick to spend money on the immaterial things and not of the RIGHT THINGS The saying in this show was when it comes to spending money more money is put into armaments than into helping the people of this country It’s more important to vote for the right to bear arms than it is to prime and good healthcare It’s more important to vote for higher senators salaries than it is to put that money to help the homeless Ok this episode was about activism and it does sadly expose the dark side of importance of where money goes but it also raises important issues as well
