I used spare Hornby Class 58 Bogie pickups to add pick-up from both sides of the trailing bogie on the early Lima Class 37 & 47s that only had 4 wheel pick-up. Unlike the Lima pickups, the trailing bogie collects current from the outer wheels on both sides. Still no pick-up on the centre wheels but an improvement over the original.

Lima models i find are very robust and reliable and ride well on the rails and never derail, unlike bachmann which are technically more accurate and prone to derail on less than perfect track.

I'll do something similar when my Lima Class 37 arrives soon. But I will do the same on the other side and disable the internal spring contact. This is so that the contacts are equalized in the pressure on the wheels.

I've got a Class 92 (Victor Hugo) by lima. Same pickup bogey arrangement. I can sort that but what i don't understand is why there is also a single pickup on the motor bogey hooked up to the front and rear axles but no pickup for the insulated middle wheel on the motor bogey? - Any idea what the logic there was? lol

The Hornby uncoupling ramp has a similar brass spring.

great video... so all the criticism about the lima and slow running etc you think is just down to the pickups? ive read somewhere that some people cure it by getting a feedback controller... but if your using a standard controller and you can get them slow running speeds who needs to get a feedback controller lol

reakingringpiece , clean rails , clean wheels and clean pick ups , clean and oiled motor , she’ll go anywhere.

TRIPLEVALVE62 THE DEPOT how did she run before the extra pickup? Was slow speed possible? Has your controller to do anything to do with it? Also the extra pickup I assume it only touch’s the wheel very lightly

reakingringpiece the pick ups are in contact with the back edge of each wheel just enough without pressure , before she ran ok but stalled over pointwork , I use a guagemaster analogue controller which is superb , on the other end of the scale I use also an old H&M single which is just as good , the guagemaster gives me very slow crawl for shunting

TRIPLEVALVE62 THE DEPOT thanks for the info I will be definitely buying one of them controllers, I’ve noticed a lot of. Snobbery when it cones to Lima models a lot unwarranted I think as some look brilliant at an acceptable price 😳

reakingringpiece it’s your railway you run what you like , I have a few Lima diesels in my collection , if looked after they run well , I’ve a rake of Lima Coaches I’ve weathered which look the part , overall , it’s about enjoying the hobby and not worrying about others so much in terms of a brand or model

Fabulous, you can have good slow running trains without DCC 🙂
