I really think Rapport is my favorite GM. He seems so radical, especially in the way Levy recaps his games. And I really like getting slaughtered by Nepo and showing up in a pink suit with NO PLAN for a damn win. This guy is literally the main character. He just customized his suit of armor and got his plot armor strength.

I actually think that this was the best outcome that couldve happend in this round, because this just makes everything, especially round 9, a heck of a lot more interesting. I've watched a lot of these recap vids, but this is the first time that I watched hours of the actual tournament experiencing the games in real time beforehand. Watching the recaps of games 3 & 4 made me realize how tough it is to boil down the intensity of a game that could last up to 7 hours into 10 minutes. "Pink!!" Rapport shows up with Hikaru's "I don't care" and wins. Nepo takes no risks while Alireza and Rajabov continue to struggle. Hikaru and Fabi go at it tooth and nail. Hikaru really tried to mess it up but Fabi couldn't find the answer in time trouble. Story of the tournament remains Nepo's dominance and everyone else's missed chances/questionable play. Massive win by Hikaru, in the Italian live comment we were all rooting for Hikaru or Fabiano and every time Hikaru made a mistake or a great move, we were all terrified or amused... definitely a stupendous game, also Fabiano’s defense in the endgame was amazing. Hikaru’s position was just better, and btw I’m so happy he won
@scoutbane1651
@scoutbane1651 2 жыл бұрын
I'm honestly sad Hikaru won. He played a great game and he deserved the win, but Fabiano is pretty much the only participant I give realistic chances of dethroning Magnus (that has enough points to win the tournament). I mean Nepo could just have a great few games like here, but we saw how much magnus can grind him down. Meanwhile Fabi drew all his games against Magnus and only lost in tiebreak, and he's literally nr 3 in the world, and he has a pretty even record against him in classical. If Nepo wins against Caruana tomorrow it's practically guaranteed Magnus is not getting defeated this year
@varunsingla4718
@varunsingla4718 2 жыл бұрын
@@scoutbane1651 We all have our bias but fabi is significantly weaker in classical than he was in 2018(Almost 50pts lower rated). Also head to head magnus has always dominated fabi he is 11-5 up in classical. Nepo throughout his career has faced this problem of collapsing in a game and then giving up. Nepo is still only 6-4 down against him but still I would say these past records speak little. None of the candidates have more than 20% chance of defeating Magnus in a 14 game match. If fabi doesn't win candidates for whatever reason then he is simply not the best to face Magnus. Anyways fabi-nepo wch match would be very evenly balanced and exciting than anyone vs magnus tbh.

I feel like chess enjoyment, as a spectator, and the level at which the games are played, follow the law of diminishing returns. Passed a certain level, where every slight inaccuracy can be punished, and most games are played perfectly to a draw, it’s just not fun anymore. This is the stuff that, at best, only the top 5% of the chess community understands or even cares about. This is why, watching the candidates is so much more entertaining than watching the world chess championship. The quality of chess might be very slightly lower, but it makes it so much more fun to watch!

I don't watch classical games all the way, just wait for the recaps. But today, the games were amazing, and once I started watching i couldn't stop. Hikaru, with that Fanta walk in and suit on Giga Chad attitude, sheeeh!

Hi Levy, love your channel and the recaps. I do wonder though if it’s possible to add the eval bar for these recaps. I find that it’s pretty cool to see as a more average player.

If Fabi beats Nepo tomorrow, and Hikaru beats Radjabov, we have 3 guys within half a point of each other at the top. Now THAT would be insane. Momentum isn't in Fabi's favor, however. Going on to face Nepo, right after losing to Hikaru, seems like a dangerous situation. We'll see how he responds to pressure tomorrow.

Levy !!! you make your recap more entertaining. Even after watching the live games. I would always look for your recap. You really spice it up more! More than at times during the live commentaries. I know the commentators did a wonderful job as well but you somehow express it more than they could and way way more entertaining! So hats off to you my man! Keep it up. And this is me giving you a well deserve pat on the shoulder. Can't wait for your next recap!

I loved how Naroditsky & co had so much trouble analysing the live position and kept seeing ‘possibilities’ that ended in disaster. When a position is so complex the GM’s, with the help of a computer, can’t make heads or tails of it, you know you’re watching history in the making. Epic game, Hikaru!

22:51 In his analysis video, Hikaru admits that he just got the move order wrong. In a hilarious twist, that might have ended up being confusing enough to spot him a decisive time advantage in a complicated variation.

I don't comment much but I have to say that you're a talent at chess and at content. Thank you for making these videos. I've also learned lots from watching your videos. I starting playing blitz again after a long break and shot up from 800 to 900. Watching high level content has helped me think about patterns, tactics and chess principles even at my low level.
