The brain and hand misconnection Magnus mentioned, it's kind of true. It happened to me last night playing online. It's some kind of visualizing the future position and forget about the actual present, so you end moving the wrong piece in this time present.
@andreasumbach2 жыл бұрын
It's not just "kind of" true, it happens all the time. In german, there's even a word for it. It's "Fingerfehler", when don't make the move you want to play, but the one you're thinking about (usually the next move down the line). It happens at all levels too, obviously. To prevent that from happening, coaches used to tell the kids to "write down your move on the score sheet first, then play it", but sadly, that's not allowed anymore (except in special situations like when you're claiming there's a repetition).
@Pablo360able7 ай бұрын
I do this all the time. And I play daily chess so it's extra embarrassing. I spend thirty minutes calculating ten different variations only to play a move that's supposed to happen three turns later in the critical line.

What i love about these videos is they highlight the incredible depth of analysis which goes into key moves, even in the case of the first game, black's first move. Watching outsiders see only the result, and in many cases the observation is "that seems reasonable", not recognizing other "reasonable looking" moves could go very wrong. Congrats to Hikaru on the incredible match and I wish him luck against Federov, who is clearly a formidable opponent, and after beating Magnus it would be tempting to try and relax a bit.
