You gotta be the hardest working guy in the youtube hiking world. The amount of information you provide is crazy. Also appreciate that you aren't making these 30 minutes long with excessive filler. Have nothing against you making longer videos, of course, but for these guides, this timing is about right. Hadn't heard of this hike before. Will definitely put in on my list.

Ha, what a great comment, thank you so much! I try to just give you guys the info you need to do the hike without any BS, so I'm glad to know that it's effective. A lot of HikingGuy came out of frustration with guides and videos that had filler and hard to understand directions. As alwys, I appreciate all your support!

Another great HikingGuy inspired trek - Thanks again Cris for doing all the planning work! Hiked the loop clockwise on 12/17/22 - Great weather to take in the views you mentioned - Baldy, San Gorgonio, Wilson, etc. on the way out to Twin Peaks. Went up West Twin after (the official)Twin Peaks using snow buried use trails and then picking a more direct route back down to Twin Peaks Saddle based on sets of fresh deer/bear tracks which was a fun way to come down. After going up to the Waterman Summit, it was all downhill (like you promised), back to the Buckhorn day use area. On the way down, the sunset reflecting off the ocean in the distance was spectacular. Didn’t have to chain up and the bears at the day use area left the car alone! Wimped out of doing the Twin peaks part of this 12 years ago but your video was the inspiration! Hoping that REI, Garmin and others realize the impact of your work and raise their level of sponsorship.👍👍👍

Hi Cris. Your website and videos really helped me hiked Cucamonga, San Bernardino, and San Jacinto Peak safely. I been watching your videos for awhile now. I'm always telling people about hikingguy.com and your channel on youtube. Thank you for all your work.

Ahhh.... thank you so much, I love hearing that and am so glad that the videos and guides have helped on your adventures. Now that you've done the popular peaks, start hitting some of the off-the-beaten-path hikes like this. You'll be amazed by how peaceful they are compared to "the 6" that most people do.

I'm glad you're really pumping out these So Cal video hikes this summer! I did this hike 2 years ago from Angeles Crest Hwy near Buckhorn. You're right; it is a tough one! I first went to Waterman, then Twin Peaks East, and then crossed the ridge to Twin Peaks West. It was nearly 3,900' climbing over 11-12 mi! I saw Bighorn Sheep, Deer, and a rattler that day! Tough day, but extremely scenic and worth that 1200' climb back to Waterman's east shoulder on the return!!!

Thanks, yea, have some more "off the beaten path" hikes from SoCal on the way too, along with some National Park hikes as well. Sounds like quite a day you had. I really was keeping my eyes open for bighorn, but didn't see much of anything aside from lizards and birds. I probably make too much of a racket with the camera and all the back and forth when I shoot the guides.

I also record videos on my hikes and upload them to KZbin. I can be quite a passionate chatterbox when I record, and I have a naturally loud voice, so I probably scare off animals well before I arrive!!

@Mark Sturdivant I believe most of it is gone, but I may be able to find a clip or 2 possibly saved on another computer in the house. If I can find it, I may be able to upload it. The bighorn sheep are a little tough to see, but if you focus, you can see them a bit. The Angeles is my playground, and it is a treasure trove!

Last time we hiked there we pulled up to the lot and someone had their car broken into. Nice hike though!

Thanks for this video/guide! :D First time hiking here last January. I got lost on the way up to waterman summit bec of the fresh snow. After 30 mins searching for the trail i finally found it. When I got back on buckhorn day parking, i just found out my car battery died bec i left the headlights on. It was on Tues and Gov shutdown so nobodys there just me! After an hour i saw this car stopped on the side of the road and there I asked for a ride to LA. Luckily, I got back safe!

Oh man, that's quite a place to get stranded. I had a similar experience about 10 years ago when I left my key FOB in my pack, put the pack in the trunk, then closed it in there. I was in the Adirondacks, 3 miles down a dirt road, in the middle of nowhere. I ended up smashing my rear window with a rock, then putting the rear seat down to get in the trunk. Fun times. Lesson learned.

Watched you VR video first, and this one has better resolution on my computer screen. Should have picked this one!
@Hikingguy
@Hikingguy 5 жыл бұрын
The VR video will always be lower resolution since it's basically jamming a 360 view into the same data. The great thing is that you can pan around, which comes in handy when you want to do recon on trail junctions, etc. But yea, the regular HD videos will generally look better, which I why I do them both.

any reliable water sources along or near the trail for folks doing dispersed camping in the wilderness area?

There's a small stream when you head down from Waterman to the saddle by Twin Peaks, but it's seasonal. At this time of year I'd probably bring what I need unfortunately.

Looks like a great hike and not super far up the 2. Maybe this might be a great area to snowshoe....what do you say? BTW...is this where you were on National Summit Day, Aug 3rd?
@Hikingguy
@Hikingguy 5 жыл бұрын
Yea, I think this area would be great for snowshoeing, but I haven't done it. At least everything aside from the climb to Twin Peak East, which would be a bit too steep. && On National Summit Day I was actually on Andersen Peak in the San Gorgonio Wilderness. Trying to get some miles in my legs for a trip to the Sierras next week.

@@Hikingguy okay...good to know. Haha...that's awesome! I did Gorgonio on Saturday. Getting my legs ready for a trip to Banff next week. The Eastern Sierras...my favorite place in the world! I'd normally say I'm jealous, but I'm going to fricken CANADA, dude!! Seriously, have a wonderful trip, be safe and tells those mountains hello for me. Thanks for all the info today!!
