Went on a solo day hike up to a few High Uinta Stillwaters. I went back to a lake that I had previously lost a nice Tiger Trout, hoping to get some revenge. Also hit another nearby lake that is known for some good Cutthroat Trout. Caught em a few different ways, icluding dries, indo rigs, and streamers. Was a fun day for some hard fighting fish.

It's not ugly there! Am I the only one that hates trying to pronounce Uintas? Lovely day of fishing, great job man!

If you squint hard enough, might be enough to remind you of the Eastern Sierras. It's definitely beautiful up there.

Love this lake. I didn't know there were Tiger in it. I only saw Cutthroats. I had a similar experience the last time I went (when you went with your wife). I had a couple dry fly hits but couldn't set the hook also. :(

Yeah, those two have above average fish for the Uintas. Plus it's a nice hike with good views.

I always pack my light sandals so I can take off my boots and socks and walk in the water with my sandals on. I set hook on everything and anything.

I do that when backpacking. Luckily these lakes had access to deeper water from shore, so no wading needed. Would probably feel nice on the feet though.

As to indicator, I judge experience and how the fish are hitting. If smooth water, I will set on the most subtle movement (if I don't see harder hits -- indicator going underneath water). Other times, I mainly wait for the indicator to have any movement -- hard or soft -- unnatural to the float.

Yeah, I got a lot of little bumps that seem like there's no way I'd be able to react in time. Like one and done movements.

@@TroutFlies - Ya, those I don't set on myself. Its the little bumps that happen a couple of times. I remember fishing a local pond and only seeing the indicator move a fraction, but it was more often. So, the next time it happened I set the hook to check, and fish was on. That day I kept setting if I saw it happen twice in a row. :)

@@familyflyties3913 Yeah I wasn't setting on single movements, but if it moved twice I usually stuck the fish.

Are you at all worried about lightning strikes and fires in the area you are hiking/fishing at this time of the year? I flyfish Huntington creek frequently and couldn't help but notice the frequency of lightning strikes and fires in that area.

I don't typically stay around when the thunderstorms roll in. But I'm not that concerned about it. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out what is going on and be able to get out if need be.

@@TroutFlies Hmm. That's rough. But fair. I meant to update the comment after watching in my defense.... I forgot. Very pretty and big tigers, teach me the ways of stillwater trout fishing. How far below the surface were you jigging your sculpzilla?

@@RosinFlyFishing It's a heavily weighted fly so it sinks pretty quick, maybe a foot a second, so I was just counting it down to different depths.
