I used to run that route when I lived in Ilulissat back in late 90's. Couldn't ask for more a beautiful view on the south site. :)

That hike offers the best icebergs view in the world after Antarctica. It can’t get better than that. I really enjoyed it even though I was a little bit scared because it is a remote area and I was the only one hiking there for the entire 5 hours.

Completely agree about initial part till the lake… if someone asks me, I will say start at visitor center and turn back right before lake.

Hello, thank you for such beautiful views 😊. I was wondering is it dangerous hike regarding to wildlife as polar bears? I am planning to visit Ilulissat soon and this hike is on my list. 😊 Do you need to wear firearm protection for polar bears as in Svalbard or won't be necessary. Thanks in advance.

I was told that Ilulissat does not have polar bears, but the risk still exists. I was a little bit nervous hiking in that remote and isolated area. Polar bears could still show up unexpectedly just like what happened in Kangerlussuaq when they saw a polar bear approaching the town in 2018. I was more concerned about getting lost than encountering a polar bear. It is not necessary to carry a firearm as the chance of encountering polar bears in Ilulissat is very slim. The yellow trail is much shorter, easier, and safer if you don't plan to hike the blue trail. The ground is slippery? There's blue ice on the rocks?

The ground is slippery in some sections. In Ilulissat, Greenland, they mark the trails with colors to help the hikers follow the trail. On this trail, they marked the rocks with blue color and that is why it is called the blue trail. On another trail, they use yellow color and that is covered in my next video.

Thank you. The hotel staff gave me a map of this trail and I took a taxi to the trailhead. Once you start the hike, you need to keep an eye all the time on the blue spots printed on the rocks to follow the trail. Also, make sure you let people know where you are going in case something happens, they know where to locate you. Have a safe trip.
