Thank God for people like you! You really dispel the 'ignorant Americans' myth. There seems to be a particular myth that Americans come here to the UK and don't get farther than London. (and unfortunately some videos show this). Thank you for showing our lovely places outside the capital. I look forward to your coming to Birmingham, which all the Birminghams in the USA were named after.

Greetings from Somerset, UK!Cheddar is my home village, and it was interesting to see your take on it. People who have remarked about the 'circular lake' are right, it's a reservoir, built in the 1930s and both my grandfathers worked on it! If you come here again, visit the village and see our 500-year old market cross and the remains of the 'palace' where Saxon kings visited and held court over 1000 years ago. And yes, as other people have said - try the farmhouse cider.

I went to cheddar about a year and a half ago and it was great! You should’ve gone to goughs cave. Down that street are some lovely cafes and ice cream shops which are lovely in the summer. And the coolness of the cave really cools you down in the summer heat :) it’s a lovely scenic place ! There is also a cheese factory where you see how cheeses are made and hey make weird flavour cheeses like bacon cheese and you can try them out and buy big chunks!

Ahh I really like Cheddar gorge. I used to commute through it and it was always so nice early in the morning - always had to watch out for wandering sheep! Next time you are in the Cheddar/Bath area you should go to Glastonbury and climb the Tor. I think you'd enjoy the quirky town too. It's quite a fun little place to explore.

Obviously--like most places in Britain, visiting in Summer is preferable, if possible. It allows a more holiday feel to these places ( crowded ,sure) but more jolly. Cheddar Caves have many pre-history things to see, and is ideal when the weather is bad. A drive down or up the Gorge gives a great view of the craggy cliffs high above,( but not for a driver) where many climbing clubs are active. There is a great flight over the cliffs by drone, on You Tube

The lake is what's left behind from the only opencast cheddar mine in the world , now cheese comes from the deep mines in North Wales and is imported . That's why we had to do Brexit because the EU wanted the name changed to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch cheese . 😋😋

Andy Ward what a load of crap Andy. We have 2 opencast cheese mines in Yorkshire and one deep mine just outside Wakefield where you can visit the cheese face yourself. Sadly, Thatcher decimated the northern cheese industry, there are still brothers that don't speak after the mature cheddar strikes. But the industry is surviving, just. Say no to cheese spread people!
