We recently went on an amazing adventure to the Havasupai Indian Reservation in Arizona to see 5 amazing waterfalls! It required a 10 mile hike into the Grand Canyon, but the scenery and experience were absolutely epic!
The most famous waterfall in the Havasupai Indian Reservation is Havasu Falls. Havasu Falls is a 100-foot (30-meter) tall waterfall that cascades into a turquoise-blue pool of water. The waterfall is surrounded by red rocks and lush greenery, making for a breathtaking sight. Visitors can swim in the pool beneath the waterfall or hike to the top for a panoramic view.
Another popular waterfall in the area is Mooney Falls. Mooney Falls is taller than Havasu Falls, standing at 196 feet (60 meters) tall. The hike to Mooney Falls is more challenging than the hike to Havasu Falls, but the view is worth the effort.
In addition to Havasu Falls and Mooney Falls, there are also several smaller waterfalls in the Havasupai Indian Reservation, including Navajo Falls and Beaver Falls. Navajo Falls is a two-tiered waterfall that is located near Havasu Falls, while Beaver Falls is a series of smaller cascades that are reached via a scenic hike along the Havasu Creek.
We stayed 3 nights/4 days in an effort to fully experience the beauty of the waterfalls and the surrounding landscape. The reservation is accessible via a 10-mile (16-kilometer) hike, horseback ride, or helicopter ride from the nearest town of Supai. You will need a PERMIT to visit, but they are hard to obtain to be prepared for that - there won't be any permits available in 2023 (though you might be able to get one transferred through the TRANSFER BOARD - visit their website for more information).
Here's our article on our experience ( cupcakeandcorn..., as well as a few photos - keep watching our channel for complete videos of our hikes to each of the waterfalls!
HAVASUPAI TRIBE HISTORY
When you visit, remember you're on land that belongs to the tribe, so respect it. The Havasupai people have a rich and complex religious tradition, which is intimately tied to their cultural identity and way of life. Their spiritual beliefs are rooted in the natural world and the forces that govern it, including the sky, the earth, the water, and the animals that inhabit the land.
Central to the Havasupai religious tradition is the concept of "Wupatki," which roughly translates to "the source of all things." This spiritual force is believed to be present in all living things, and is often associated with water and the life-giving power it represents. The Havasupai also believe in a variety of spirits and supernatural beings, including the "Havasu Baaja," which are powerful water spirits that are said to live in the Grand Canyon.
Ceremonies and rituals are an important part of Havasupai religious life. One of the most important is the "Havasu Baaja," or "Water Serpent" ceremony, which is held annually in the spring. During this ceremony, tribal members pray for the well-being of their community and perform a series of dances and rituals to honor the Havasu Baaja and other spiritual forces.
Another important ceremony is the "Squash Dance," which is held in the fall to celebrate the harvest of squash and other crops. This ceremony is characterized by the wearing of traditional dress and the performance of songs and dances that express gratitude for the bounty of the land.

Wow what a place, flown over the canyon but never visited, can you take your dog on the hike? is it close to where Teddy R. bagged the big bare.

I don’t think you can take a dog with you - there are lots of dogs roaming around the village though. They told us “take some with you” when we left 😂

Great adventure! Was it hard for the ladies to go down to the bottom of the Mooney Falls?

Actually, they didn't make the climb down - they needed a break from the hike in. Jonathan + I did the climb and hiked out to Beaver Falls. I (Cornbread) was completely worn out by the time we made it back to Mooney Falls, so climbing back up was a challenge!

@@CupcakeandCornbread So, how bad is the clime down? I mean I see women do it.. I am just a bit in shock from the videos lol But I would love to give it a try! We are going there on 4/11)

@@anzhelikavardi7204 It is a challenge, but if you take your time and wear gloves it should be ok. The biggest concern for me was the part with the chains - if you're afraid of heights it could be a problem. There were lots of men and women climbing up/down, just be patient!

Very nice. Why was the road blocked when you drove in? And what time did they open the road?

The ranger from Hilltop drove down to the checkpoint and told us someone was supposed to be there, but they must have slept in that day. He checked us in (verified permits) and we continued on to Hilltop.

Do you know what days the helicopter is running now? How many runs they do a day?

It's been a few months since we were there, and I can't recall - sorry. I know on the day we were leaving it made at least 15 flights out and back before it picked us up, and that was in the early afternoon. I'd strongly encourage you to contact them ( theofficialhavasupaitribe.com/ ) before you go to make sure of any last minute issues - have fun!

Is the restroom still at the start of the hilltop? Thank you
@CupcakeandCornbread
@CupcakeandCornbread Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a restroom at hilltop. It had an ample supply of TP, but you might want to consider bringing a roll of your own if you're hiking down to the campground. Most of the bathrooms have plenty of it (usually 5+ rolls on a locked bar next to the toilet, but you never know!
