I found it quite funny how the walk went from lovely views of fields or beautiful woodland to long stretches of boring repetitve road and then back again. Videos are great though looking forward to the next part.

Long, straight roads are tough walking, monotony for the mind and hard on the feet. Got to admit I did smile when you discussed your pitch 'It's the spot with the least graves...'.

This sparked quite the debate in our house, on whether we would camp in a graveyard or not 😂. Pete said absolutely not, i (Shell) on the other hand thought it would be a great experience! Plus water on tap, and permission to camp, what's not to like? Pete did seem to think i would change my mind in the middle of the night though 😂😱. We really love watching your through hiking adventures Ben, you have certainly found your groove now with them, some impressive mileage put in on this one😊👌. We do agree about the long straight roads, can definitely have a feeling of not getting anywhere, give us a hill any day! Although you did get a trig point😊👍. Another adventure nearly in the bag, bring on part 3😊🙌 Have a great weekend Shell and Pete😊👍👊

Another excellent jaunt! Even though it was monotonous, the scenery was still amazing! And loved that angelic choir as you stumbled on the “Golden Arches”! I wonder if the Big Mac tastes the same in England as it does in the US. I couldn’t tell the difference when I tried one in Poland! 🤣😸

😂 You’re one brave man, Ben. I think from the comments you are amongst the few who would camp in a graveyard 😱 I get the heebie-geebies on Dartmoor 😂 Road walks are a mare, but I did watch HuckWasHere walking in Wisconsin USA and he had a 40 mile road section between trails on the Ice Age Trail. 😮 Love the series you’re putting together 👍

Straight roads/tracks you can't get lost on, and graveyards to sleep in, plus Mcdoufers to eat in 😂...sounds like a great adventure to me 👌. You're an old hand at these through hikes now Ben 👍... you can thank the Romans for the good mileage you've done ✌️...if it wasn't for them we might still be without roads in Norfolk 😉😁

Nice to see you up near my neck of the woods, having walked small sections of the Peddars way myself it really does have some beautiful little place to visit along the way and is a lovely part of the County if not a little flat and featureless at times.. Sad to see in your part 1 that the pathways aren't being maintained too well, you'd think with it being such a well known national footpath they'd look after it abit better.. Anyway looking forward to seeing you continue up to Holme.. 😊

FYI, Costa, Greggs, supermarket cafes, and lots of other places have a published policy of refilling water bottles for free at all of their outlets. I don’t know about Maccy D’s but maybe they do too. Always worth asking! Also churches often have an outdoor tap for grounds maintenance.

Cadbury Everything,That's the way to do it,That's the way I would for sure,lol! & As long as the Hound of the Baskervilles doesn't show up at night,I see no problem with sleeping on hallowed ground,Afterall the history of the Country,there are probably human bones beneath most of the land there anyhow! A couple of pint cans of Boddingtons would put me in the correct mood to nod off.This is an interesting journey,Indeed! Cheers!!

Great watch, as was part 1. I recently did a few sections of the Wye Valley Walk, a very scenic route from Hereford to Chepstow. The section between Monmouth and Tintern started off nice until we reached woodland, then it went on and on... and on... and on and on for hours until I was sick of the sight of trees and desperate to see some open landscape. I'm imagining that's how you felt on that road.

Well done, Ben. I'm really enjoying your videos of this walk. I agree with you about constant straight roads. Gets a bit boring! Camping in a graveyard - hmm..not sure I would fancy that, but I'm sure it was the best option for you rather than walk another 7 miles. I'm amazed it was allowed though, there's no way my local church would have allowed it! 👏

I know this area well due to living here. And that Castle Acre to Gt Massingham stretch is just long & undulating. I've ridden it & that was hard going for me! The Peddars Way skirts beside Massingham which is a shame because it's a typical, gorgeous quintessential English villiage. It's beautiful with a great many, well kept ponds. That stone was knocked down earlier in the the year. About 6 months ago I was on deliveries, heading from Castle Acre to Gt Massingham and I stopped on that bend. I took some snaps of it which are on one of my community posts from back then. Only a tractor or truck could have done that, and my money is on a tractor. Hopefully they'll re-set it again. But this is Norfolk & things tend to happen slower here. Great job. Looking forward to the last section👍

I think I'd personally really struggle solo walking an arrow straight and flat trail. I need some kind of mental stimulation. Wife and I finished the (south to north) Limestone Way on Thursday evening (well, a section from Fenny Bentley to Castleton we split into 3 days, 11 to 14 miles each) and the first day was quite frankly dull and made it a proper slog: and we had someone else to have a chat with. You can do more miles on the straight and flat I guess, but of their not enjoyable then I can't see the point personally.
@benhikescamps
@benhikescamps Жыл бұрын
It can certainly be a challenge for sure. Glad I loaded up with podcasts and music to push through the slog.

@@benhikescamps yeah, that'd make it better. Good idea getting the permissive camp in, but I can see why it'd put some off. Honestly, spoilt for choice of farm campsites round Derbyshire/Yorkshires, if yer prepared to do a mile or two off route.

Hi Ben. I'm with you on that feeling of no progress when it's the same scenery. Like you're stuck on the same page of a book, and just want something different. I also have the Alpkit Pipedream 400, and find that too short too. Shouldve been labelled small and regular, rather than regular and long! Anyway, I hope it gets better, as been considering that after I've done the Icknield Way. 👍

It’s worth setting aside around 1.5 hrs to do it and then several hours for it to all dry. Mine went away in a cupboard for a year afterwards but it was all fine still when it came out. Haven’t experienced a full on shower yet to test it, only light showers. All ok though.

I know what you mean Ben by long straight road walking. It’s very demoralising and hard on your feet. When you have mountains and valleys to look at it’s much easier to stay motivated. It must have been a real long slog people watching the video probably don’t know how many hours you have to walk on these. A brave camp it would n’t be my first choice I think I may have slept in the entrance porch instead

On a long hike, I often look out for remote churches to camp by. Arriving late, there’s rarely anyone else around. I wouldn’t do the Peddars Way again for the reasons you give. Not enough variety in the route.
