Hiking Woodstock Tower - George Washington National Forest

This hike takes place in the George Washington National Forest (GWNF) east of Woodstock, VA. The goal of this hike is to visit the Woodstock Fire Tower. This trail is a moderately easy class 1 trail. The trail offers great views to the West into West Virginia and east to the Shenandoah Valley and Shenandoah National Park.
The hike I did is as follows. The trailhead is in the Little Fort Campground in the GWNF. The parking is minimal here because the campground does not cater so much to visitors just campers. I started up the Wagon Rd trail past a gate with a road closed sign. Soon after that, we crossed the Peters Mill Run ATV trail. I continued up the trail to the ridge and made a left onto the pink-blazed tower trail. Followed that for a tenth of a mile to the Tower. The graffiti-covered tower offers great views to the west and east. It was just under a mile to the tower from the trailhead. From there retrace your steps back to the parking lot.

Climbing those towers can be scary the trip is fine going up but the steep stairs going down especially in older and higher towers can be unnerving
