Hello. I have a problem. I bought a GoPro for the first time (GoPro 13). I tried to edit 5.3K Log with 10 bit and high bit rate video in Davinci Resolve (free). But it doesn't recognise it. I tried the same features but 4K. Again it doesn't recognise. It shows a red screen written Media Offline. How can I solve this problem? By the way, this video of yours is very good and helpful to use Davinci Resolve.

@@GreatDayForAHike Hi, I have a little question. I've watched your tutorial video and tried to combine my 4K GoPro videos, but there is a problem. When I try to render my videos and when I try to render the finished video it says that it is going to take about 5 to 8 hours until it finishes rendering. What can I do to fix this ? Why does it just takes 5 minutes in your video and for me about 5 to 8 hours ? Please help me.
@iamie153
@iamie153 Жыл бұрын
@@superalex9318 For the most part two things are going to govern how long it will take to render. First the length of the video to be processed and second the processing power of your computer. My computer is i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz. No separate GPU. A video of 30 minutes in length takes just over 1 hour to process.

Quick question, if editing from 2 cameras (SD cards), one shot in 4K and one in 1080, can I render in 4K? Or would it have to be in 1080, and 4K footage be dropped down? Great video!

@mrhalish
@mrhalish 2 жыл бұрын
@@ML-gt7vf I had a look at some other videos and I think the general idea is that shooting in 24fps is good for most stuff to get that cinematic feel, but if you want to slow anything down, you need to shoot in at least 60fps... I might be wrong but that is what I have understood...
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike 2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question. A 24fps timeline will allow for 24fps or 60fps clips to be dropped onto it. The 60fps clip will have the ability to be slowed down to 40% of the original speed but 24fps clips cannot be slowed down without getting choppy. However, you can also drop 60fps footage onto a 24fps timeline and keep it at normal speed and it will work fine to do so.

@@GreatDayForAHike thanks for the detailed reply! That's where I went wrong, I was following your tutorial whilst practicing myself on my other monitor, I tried to slow down a clip that was shot in 24fps and couldn't understand why it went choppy to begin with. But now I understand! Thankyou!

@@ML-gt7vf If you shoot in 60, on a 30 fps timeline you can slow to 50 percent speed, slow mo, and it'll be ideal. Shoot in 120 fps and you can slow down to 4 times, down to 30. That'll look great too. 90 fps slowed 3 times etc etc

Unlike in this video I always thought of Lift as shadows, Gamma as midtones, Gain as highlights and Offset as exposure. What is the difference in using lets say the shadow box under the color wheels vs using Lift for the shadows?
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike 2 жыл бұрын
You are correct in the general consensus of what those do. I’m a Premiere Pro editor first and foremost and in there Adobe labels everything really clearly with exactly what it does :-) So I did indeed misspeak on what a few of these do but as long as an editor is using the histograms/waveforms to keep the end result within the min and max limits on there this is key.
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike 2 жыл бұрын
My understanding is the shadow box under the color wheels can offer more detailed precision for advanced color grading and fine tuning the shadows as these pertain to different hues and colors within the footage.

Thanks for this video. Currently experiencing tremendous problems with DaVinci Resolve. Playback during editing of video is nearly impossible with massive amount of jittery stuttering behavior, video and audio always out of sync. This makes review of video editing progress impossible. Numerous error messages during rendering process, program is unable to render a particular frame or clip. And now DaVinci requires over 10 hours to render an 8-minute video. It's actually insane. Have reviewed numerous "solutions" to these problems, unable to find anything other than short-term band-aids before problems return. Running out of reasons to not jettison DaVinci Resolve. Then again, it's probably just me.

Q: For Project Settings, my camera is set to 1080 | 120 | W. Should frame rate be at 120 or 24 or 30 as noted in your video? 🤔

Great question. This largely depends on what frame rate you want your finished product to have and if you want to do any slow motion in your finished product.

I still have the free copy of Davinci (either my camera will be bought first or I'll just cough up the bucks for the full product) and when I go to import my files (from my GoPro 8)(4K) they don't show up at all in the directory. Is this because the free version of Davinci only works with specific files? I had to use Shutter Encoder on a recent project to convert some files to a format Davinci seemed to like.
@GreatDayForAHike

That is possible. It could also be that the files are using the HEVC codec and if you’re on Windows you do have to get the 99 cent extension from the Windows Store before these files can be recognized in Windows.

If you want to shoot and in 60fps, edit in 60fps, and export in 60fps then you would just need to make sure your timeline in DaVinci is set to 59.94 for the frames per second in the settings when you setup your timeline.

QUESTION: When I select clips in the media pool, right click, and then add them to the timeline, DVR is shortening some of the clips as it stitches them together. I have to separate the clips in the timeline, stretch them out to their full length so that the transitions between clips flow smoothly (before editing), and then delete the blank space gap I created. Sometimes I have to do this over and over again, working from the left to the right along the timeline, only to find that earlier clips have again been "cut off". This is EXTREMELY frustrating. What is causing this?

A couple things to check. Make sure your footage is copied locally first and not being imported directly from the GoPro MicroSD card. If you’re on Windows you’ll want to make sure you have the HEVC codec (it’s 99 cents from the Windows Store). If you’re already check these then use the Relink option and navigate to where your footage is stored.

Yes. I don’t recommend exporting in 5.3K as this is not a common standard and won’t really provide any benefit. Filming in 5.3K and then placing on a 4K timeline provides a bit of a crisper footage benefit.

I've noticed in your videos you recommend a lot of times, but don't explain it. In your night lapse tutorial you recommend this and that, but don't say why. Same in this. I personally work in the edit tab. With the 2 windows. Clips in left, timeline in right. You can work on 4k video clips in 1080, much quicker. Then export and publish in 4k. Different methods I suppose. Edit. I've learnt a bit from this. The editing to music and the colour grading were interesting. Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, with each video I create I do have to make a decision on which of the hundreds of individual details to fully explain, partially explain, or not explain at all. I realize I likely under-explain some details in accordance with some individual preferences while also probably over-explaining some details in accordance with some individual preferences. I do seek to meet a balance with the details. Your feedback helps me to better understand where the best balance should be for detail explanation. The method you mention works well as well and can help speed up this workflow, especially on lower-end hardware or older hardware. Thanks for sharing!

@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike 9 ай бұрын
Older devices may find it challenging to work with the HEVC codec. This is the codec used for the highest quality footage on newer GoPros and many other cameras. If there was a newer computer device you could test out with the files to narrow down the issue that would be helpful.

What's up with the small amount of blank audio at the beginning of each clip? I'm having this problem and the audio isn't synced. I have to cut that little bit out, then move the audio to match but it leaves audio missing at the end of each clip. Any ideas?
@GreatDayForAHike
@GreatDayForAHike 2 жыл бұрын
Are the audio and video part of the same file? In other words, are these files with problems the .MP4 files directly from the GoPro? Or is there a secondary, separate audio file that you recorded on another device such as an external mic? Also, do your timeline settings match your footage? For example, if you’re dropping 30fps (actually 29.97) footage from the GoPro onto your timeline is your timeline set to 29.97fps? That slight difference can create an issue like this. 24fps would be 23.976. 60fps would be 59.94.

So I had 15.8 Gb of Gopro footage in 2.7K and when I did "generate optimize media" it created huge files in the OptimizedMedia folder (over 200Gb) and took almost 3 hours to do. Since I don't have a lot of hard drive space left, I had to delete the optimized files. Since Corel Videostudio wouldn't work with the Gopro 2.7K footage, I used Davince to render the files to 1080p/24 which Videostudio could work with. Videostudio makes the files less choppy by creating lower resolution files for editing and then uses the original files for rendering. Not sure I can work with DaVinci if it creates larger optimized files. Your thought about this. Final result is my latest KZbin video. "WOW - winter..."
