I go to a culinary school up in New York that has its roots in French cuisine. Halfway through my first semester I was a little worn out from eating campus food, didn’t have a car, and didn’t know the area that well. After bringing it up with my friends multiple times that week, a mutual friend of ours that had already heard this multiple times said “Well my favorite deli is 5-10 minutes away, you wanna go get something after class?” I couldn’t help it, the first thing that came to my mind was this John Pinette quote and I screamed it at him. Our whole group died laughing.

I don't think he was a big star in the UK, where I live, not that I saw anyway, so I must have missed the news of his passing. Growing up, I watched a ton of stand-up comedy after school, on the weekends, during the summer, etc. By day or early evening, I'd be watching Comedy Central Presents, and by night, I'd be watching HBO's One Night Stand, or an old Young Comedians special, or various hour-longs by all the greats, you name it. The clip comes from one of these. For me, John Pinette was, truthfully, just one of countless extremely talented comics I enjoyed, but this bit right here was absolutely one of the funniest goddamn things I've ever heard. Both the jokes themselves and Pinette's flawless delivery had me in stiches, I thought I was gonna die from how hard I was laughing. I saw his episode a couple times, I believe, but even then it's been between fifteen and twenty years since then, but this bit stuck with me the whole time. Pure gold.
