I once had the privilege of trying a Clan with an 1140 Carter full race engine the difference in torque over my 998 Hartwell engine was incredible

Andy, great to see the Imp engine still being developed! I once owned a Paul Emery 1150 engine, I never had it running as I dicoverd a crack in the block under the centre main bearing, it was a Mk1 block and really not ideal...super video, thank you.

Great vid Andy, that engine sounds sweet. - You're quite an engineer and I admire your confidence testing a new engine although I imagine they're pretty strong internally.

Thanks, yes very strong engine even in standard form! I get bored with repeat work so always looking to spice the job up a bit ! Even if it doesn't work always a learn to be had !

Ian used to spend *hours* grinding out the ports on the heads, all by eye using a die grinder on a flexi shaft to his pillar drill, constantly checking wall thickness. They all looked identical at the end.

Ports of that size are allways going to make torque high in the revs. Old factory R17 is still above 5k on a 1.2 bottom end. Never stop learning👍

That cam looks brutal! Could you run longer rod and piston with gudgeon pin closer to crown and run single ring and oil in fuel?

Weird. I always believed that longer stroke meant more torque. Or have I missed the point?
@thehillmanator

yes your dead right, this is more about the rod length which is nothing to do with the crank stroke, i will try to explain more in my next video 😂

Why no support for the rear main bearing? If thats the one that has as much, if not more load that the other two, with flywheel & clutch loads, etc?
@thehillmanator
@thehillmanator Жыл бұрын
hi, the rear main cap is fully supported down each side by the block and has the sump bolt to it as well, it is simply better left untouched in my opinion, the caps are made from LM 24 and very strong.

@@thehillmanator No worries, I can figure out pretty close to what it is, no real secrets when it comes to performance orientated design. looks like you are well over 0.25 L/D, duration is not that short and lots of spring
