I stayed at this hotel 5 times from 1961 to 1966 when I was little and I have fond memories of it back when it was one of a handful of hotels on Palm Beach. While so much of it has changed, not necessarily for the better, I was happy to see that the rooms in the original tower are pretty much the same. Some day if I win the lottery I will have to splurge and return!

That’s awesome! I had no idea it was around back then. I just figured they were all newer resorts. Do you know what other hotels were there in the 60’s?
@solracer66 Жыл бұрын
@@familyvacay_dfw In do not but then I was 8 the last time we visited so that wasn’t something I was paying attention to. I know that what I think is now the Hyatt Regency was put in around 1965 or 1966 just north and there was nothing south of the Aruba Caribbean for a fair distance. I loved the hotel as a kid because there was so much to do and so many nice helpful people. They also had these cool pink Jeeps (Jeep Surry Gala) you could rent and which I had the Tonka version of. My other memory was the De Oude Molen restaurant which amazingly is still there I hear.

@@solracer66 thank you for sharing. I bet that was a blast as a kid. Our son loved the bird sanctuary on the property. He could’ve stayed the messing with the birds the whole trip 😂 We’re hoping to give him some great memories to look back on when he gets older.

I have found that the DAC (a department of the Ministry of Justice) regulates all gambling activities on the island. It would be weird if The Hilton is exempt from that, especially if they have to have a license from the DAC (which is part of the Aruba Govt.)

Upon further googling, you are absolutely right. I can’t find where I read that. It was some travel blog telling you things to know before traveling to Aruba. I should’ve researched it more before mentioning it in the video. Thanks for the correction.

Hello and good morning. I have recently come across your videos. I am a new subscriber and enjoyed your videos. I myself will be going to Aruba this spring and looking forward to the trip. You had said that prices were steep for food. You set a budget for your family. What suggestions would tou make for restaurants in palm beach. Thanks for sharing

Heyyyyy!! I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos and thank you so much for subscribing! There was a seafood place in the marketplace across from Palm beach that we really liked. I’m have g trouble remembering the name, but I think it was Wacky Wahoo. Gianni’s had great pizza. The Gelatissmo had awesome gelato. Everywhere around Palm Beach will be pretty pricey because that’s a very commercialized area. There was a place down in Sint Nicolas that we really wanted to try called Zeerovers that’s supposed to be excellent seafood with great prices. We were pressed for time when we were down there, so we didn’t get to try it out, but we heard nothing but great things. There’s a couple of Facebook groups I follow: All Things Aruba and I ❤️ Aruba. Both locals and travelers are on there everyday sharing information… restaurants, things to do, things to avoid, etc. It’d recommend joining both of those groups and thumbing through the posts to get what information you can. Do you know where you’re staying yet?

@familyvacay_dfw Thank you for the information, I will be staying at the Riu palace. I love doing all inclusive, but I like to change things up to eat off property . I love soaking up the local cultures of any place I visit. I went to Aruba back in 1992 with friends, but it was not really built up as it now. One last thing , I believe you have a future Veterinarian with Marcus lol . He is very knowledgeable about animals .

@@michaelirvin2079 😂 thanks! Yeah, that kid is something else. He loves anything related to animals, science and history. I’m blown any every day by how bright he is. We went to Costa Rica last year and he ended up being our translator in some of the rural communities where people didn’t speak much English. He’s in a trilingual school and has been learning Spanish since first grade. It really came in handy on that trip.

@@michaelirvin2079 that’s great! I’m not a member of All About Aruba, but I’m sure any FB group with members actively posting everyday will be informative. All Things Aruba and I ❤️ Aruba are the 2 I follow. We were there in the last week of June and the first week of July in 2022. We stayed at the Hilton for a few days and then the Marriott Stellaris for the remainder of the trip. Both were great experiences. The Hilton was a little more budget friendly and the Marriott was a little more luxurious. You can’t go wrong with either, though.

Great video! Question, just booked through Costco. Two adults and on teen. Wondering if you know what the set up is for a second bed (for the teen) if we got a king over two twins? Only option was a garden view room. Thank you
@familyvacay_dfw2 ай бұрын
@@katiewade7249 thanks!! I wish I could tell you. Our room just had 1 king bed. Our son was 11 at the time and we all just shared the one bed. Most places have a roll away bed that they can bring in, but I’m not sure about here. Sorry that I can’t be more help with that. I didn’t know that you could book trips through Costco. Do they offer better rates for trips or anything?
@katiewade72492 ай бұрын
@@familyvacay_dfw ok thank you! My daughter is 16 so one bed won’t work for three of us! It doesn’t look like the room has a couch. Double beds are too small. I’ll try calling them. And Yes, we always book through Costco if they have the hotel we want on their site. Always cheaper, cancelation policy is great. Generally free airport transportation or small fee for an upgraded transport. And they always have a representative at the hotel for any issues/help. (At least at every hotel we have stayed at). I highly recommend Costco for travel! Thanks for responding!
@katiewade72492 ай бұрын
Also, many times Costco offers a Costco shop card with their deals. I got a $500 one from our last trip. Unfortunately we’re only getting $25 for our trip to Aruba. I did see a few $250 shop cards offered at a couple of other hotels.

Great video. Please tell me this. I have knee issues and going up and down stairs is a problem with me. Does this resort have facilities in place (elevators, ramps, golf carts etc) to help me get everywhere I might want to go? (ie: from room to restaurants, beach, pool etc..) Thanks so much, Steve S.
@familyvacay_dfwАй бұрын
@@stevenschindler8342 Thank you! Great question. There’s definitely elevators to get you to upper floors. I don’t remember there being any additional assistance to help get down to the beach or around the rest of the property. I remember the pathways being wide enough for a small golf cart, and I’m sure there’s carts for resort employees to get around. I bet if you reach out to a customer service representative, they could help arrange additional assistance.
