This is terrible. We were just vacationing at Hilton Hawaiian Village on 9/13/24 and the staff did a WONDERFUL Job! It speaks to there dedication to hospitality to STILL take care of customers while feeling unappreciated and unheard. Hilton needs to work this out. ❤

@@npete25 these Hilton hawaiian village employees are like the kapiolani nurses, every couple years they go on strike, just the same greedy ideology union and workers. These two are probably the worst in hurting inflation in Honolulu

I don’t understand, it’s a free market, these hotels are free to pay whatever they want. Workers dont have to work there if they don’t like the terms. There are hundreds of hotel chains. Nothing against the workers, but I honestly don’t understand. Hilton is t a monopoly. If they can’t get workers, they will have to up the wages.

Why are they striking on hotel property? I thought that was against Employer and Union policy.

No more staycation for me. Resort fees will be through the roof. If they pay workers more, they will pass it on to us consumers. They have to keep their margins. Hilton is greedy asf.

Labor shortage? Like not enough workers? Or not hiring or enabling incentives that would attract new workers? Supply not meeting demand...where there is a need there is an opportunity....how does the quality of life improve in this industry aside of higher pay? Time? Job mobility? Opportunity for growth? Familial or peripheral support? Like transportation opportunities from other parts of the island? How do you peripherally prime the surrounding industry to make a job in tourism worthwhile?

People should be able to work and get paid! Hotels raise prices but service is low!! People should be able to afford to live in their own state.

Luckily it's a free country and a person can apply for any job they want (i.e. other than a hotel). People also have the ability to get a promotion, which has this bizarre effect of giving them more pay. They can also negotiate a salary at the beginning of employment instead of taking what is offered. I live a block from the Hilton in SF. Strikers have emergency sirens blaring through a megaphone, going from 7am to 10pm. Guess how awesome it is to live here for the past three weeks? When I go by the Hilton on my way to work (a job where I'll continue to go to since I understand there is an agreed-upon salary), I see the strikers and they are real people. I want them to have good lives. They're cuties. Having said that, please STOP THE F&*&ING SIRENS before I lose my mind. Thanks.

@@dendon3384 Hawaii has limited jobs, most people who worked at Hilton in Hawaii haven’t had a raise in years but hotel continues to raise prices on room which makes customers more demanding but not give a raise to staff to upkeep with the demand. It is not easy to change jobs, most people work for years with the same employer because it takes so long to obtain full benefits (PTO, insurance, etc)

Hilton isn’t a monopoly. if you think they are paying too little , than work somewhere else. Free market.

These hotels are making money yet they wont pay them fairly? The hotels are making additional money with resort fees .These workers work hard , hospitality is a hard job.

Lies, all lies. It's all about more money and less work. Living wages???? They get paid way more that most of the regular unskilled workers. Vast majority of them are transplants. If the guest are not happy, it's the workers fault. Will more money make the work harder??? If so, then they are not doing their job.

Maybe the employees should take a good long look at there business agents. The strike is going on with the theme of respect the guests/ respect us. Meanwhile the strikers are out on the beach screaming all day long from 7am to 10pm. Is that respecting the guests? The employees are making 1/3 of there pay on strike, get back to work and have your elected business agents get you a proper deal! But your are definetly respected the guests. I've been here for 11 days working at the convention center and I can"t wait to get away from this circus!
