Thank you for this tutorial! The people that don't like the longer videos are here to be just entertained. Those of us that are interested in the process of how you go from step one to done are more than willing to watch any amount of detail you care to include regardless of how much longer that makes the video in the end. I think that your videos and instructions are a high water mark for the XF series of cars and you should be proud of the work you put in to show us how to modify and car for these cars. This was one video I couldn't keep short due to the complex procedure in the installation. Hopefully the next video will be shorter as it's re-dying and conditioning my car's worn seats. Thanks for the support 🤗

Great video! I installed this exact unit from the same supplier in my 2018 XEs earlier this year. If you want to take it to the next level buy a little device called an "AAWireless". It allows for wireless connectivity without having to select your phone manually on the touch screen every time, it also let's you route your audio directly to your cars Bluetooth and bypass the IDcore entirely, this means you can use stalk controls to skip tracks still and use the much, much better jaguar OEM mic for calls. You can even change the DPI to alter the scale of Android auto on the screen. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Many thanks for this great video! I bought one from Unique Auto in UK a couple of months ago and it's just now warm enough to install the unit in my 2013 XF. The only difficult part was routing the cables up into the center console. There's a pretty small hole underneath the side trim of the console and you can't see it well even with the trim loosened. It took me a full day to do the install, but I also fixed the passenger side vent which wasn't rotating. That alone took a couple of hours taking the dash trim apart to get at the motor for the vent. The current version of this device has wireless Android Auto/ Car Play out of the box. You still lose the steering wheel controls and the skip buttons on the console, so you have to use the touch screen for that. The OEM Navigation is disabled, but Google Maps and Waze are better anyway. The backup cam, climate controls and everything else works like usual. You don't have to put the microphone in the overhead console. I just routed it under the trim of the A pillar and stuck it on the flat area on the drivers side of the rearview mirror mount. You can hardly see it. Have the video in front of you while doing the install so you know where all of the screws are. If you're in the US with a left hand drive XF then flip your brain 180 degrees. Thanks for saving me a bunch of time Hilton.

You find additional elegant solutions (micro, usb cables) to dennis video which was also a great content. I recently bought my XF-250 S (not R - reason prevail as a daily), and I'm in love with my 1st jag. I chose this version in particular (model1, phase2) because its proximity with original concept C-XF and I'm very happy with it, except of course for the infotainment system. Being able to upgrade this car with an unfashionable and durable CarPlay (which then upgrade when your phone is) generated joy to me! My jag is young forever! Sad you sold yours, but life goes on... Hope you will be able to stay with JLR next time, at Land Rover they do provide a solid user-experience too! Hi Hilton, great video, was looking to do something similar to my XF-RS when I had it, but sold it before I got around to it. Your videos have given me confidence to pull internal dash components off without worrying too much, even though I now have different brand cars ignore those that say your videos are too long - speaking for myself I would rather sit through something with comprehensive instructions as opposed to something shorter with missing instructions. No need to lower yourself to the lowest common denominator, especially on a niche channel ... those complaining people can just bugger off - I mean with youtube they have the ability to scroll through to where ever you want in a video anyway, so what's the problem?
@carfanfan3 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate 😊. Sorry to hear you sold your XFRS. I love my XFR, but will have to let it go one day too. The roads destroy wheels with low profile tyres here. I have bought and had installed (I did not feel I wanted to do it) and all is well except ... they added a rear camera supplied also by Unique. Imitially here was odd behaviour with the added, rear camera, but once Unique supplied us with the install instructions for that, the installers added the suggested relay and all is now well. We do sometimes get the rear sensor alert screen that has to be turned off but it is not always needed. I suspect it is when selecting reverse and the sensors detect something, the screen stays in view until manually selecting the "Display Off" screen option. All in all I can heartily recomment this unit. Do realise that when running Google Maps (or Waze or whatever) the guidance instructions come from the Android box and so it needs to be the selected audio souce (Auxiliary) and not the car stereo. So I have downloaded Spotify playlists that are comparable to my CDs which had been ripped into the car and keep Spotify in Offline mode so it does not stream live. If you have unlimited data it will not be an issue.

I have wireless AA currently on a 15 year old Audi A4 B7, via an Android HU, with full steering wheel control via canbus, including mic input and having to touch the screen would be a massive step back - I find it very distracting on the rare occasions I do and for me defeats the object of Carplay/AA. How do u fix your screen when it's not turning on
@carfanfan Жыл бұрын
Do you mean after installing an Android system or screen just not turning on. If the latter it could be many things. I'd just replace the whole thing with a used one off eBay.

if u cant use steering controls to control music then this is not an upgrade. But wait isnt this by default via ANY aux phone connected in the jag u cant use steering wheel controls? Can you use bluetooth to connect to this head unit?
@carfanfan3 жыл бұрын
You can still use bluetooth
@robertasviskupaitis91953 жыл бұрын
@@carfanfan means then if you use bluettooth, then your input to the steering wheel control music buttons should work. My toyota avensis has this working perfectly fine :DDD

@@robertasviskupaitis9195 yes it does work, but I wanted my Kasich to play through the Android system. There are additional sound controls.

How is it working so far?
@carfanfan3 жыл бұрын
It's working great. I'm using Sygic maps as I have a lifetime license with them, but Waze and Google work great too. The music app AIMP is amazing. I don't use the other apps though, so I should look at them to see if they work. But when I start the car, plug in my phone and the screen comes up, press the NAV button, my map is displaying already.

Will this work in a 2009 XF?
@carfanfan2 жыл бұрын
Nope. I believe there are other units one can buy now for the pre face-lift.
@sirrkerbin25253 жыл бұрын
I was wondering why you chose this unit over the Tesla-style unit that @DenTech installed. Reading that this Tesla mob are yet to make a RHD model is not only bewildering but a silly marketing ploy imho. It's a pommy car ffs, so make it work, and sell it to the Poms. You do not need to be Boris to know that there are a shitload of XF's in the UK. Unrelated, your videos are far from being too long, so I would ignore the 1 or 2 "critics" and continue with your original recipe. Cheers from AU.

Thanks Sirr. Yeah, I told Canavie the same thing. I told them I'm itching to install one 8n my car but can't wait anymore so it fitted this in the meantime. When I get the Tesla unit I'll offer it to one of my SA subscribers with installation as a gift. Probably have a competition or something. But at least I have Google Maps 8n my XFR for now 😉🤗

I'm about to buy a 2011 XF and was thinking about switching from the original stereo to something like this but after seeing this I'll pass. There's no way I trust my skills enough to dismantle a jaguar.

It's the same as dismantling a golf 😁.

A few months ago I found and Android unit that works on the older cars. I'll do some scratching and send you a link on this message. 😉. I've seen videos where guys in Russia have already installed them on the 1st gen XF.

You can't buy a new Jaguar XF with a V8 engine anymore. So it's better to modernize a classic.
