My point exactly, that's why Marshall keeps encouraging Ted to go for Robin. Marshall's bet is of course, they would be together so obviously he would tell Ted that. As a friend, I think Marshall thinks that Ted needs the space so he asked Robin to move out to clear his thoughts.

I have to say something that he loves you just way too much to say. You got to move out." This scene was golden, one of the scenes worth rewatching the show for, the whole show is good but this sceneo is finding a needle in a haysack. Many good ones, but this is one of the best. It also made me realise just how important not only finding someone like Marshall is, but also being like him to the best of your ability.

Would have been neat if they did a scene where Marshal tells ted (or ted finds out) that marshal is the one who told her to move out. I don't think they touch on that, but it would've been a sort of "I'm so mad at you" followed by understanding and appreciation.

@Tim Jones That's probably the most sensible comment I've seen regarding this episode to date. The more I watch this scene the more I'm convinced that Robin was lying. I feel as if telling Ted 'no' prevented him for making a decision that he would have regretted for the rest of his life all for the sake of making Robin happy. Letting Ted go knowing how emotionally unstable she was at the time proves how much she really loves him.

I couldn’t agree more. To relate this to another show I like, Robin is the HIMYM version of Penny from TBBT. Both characters are selfish manipulators with daddy issues that stem from their dad wanting them to be a son. This was the first time that she thought of Ted before herself. I think Kevin had a lot to do with this. Kevin was a good guy that I feel had good influence on Robin. It’s unfortunate that she was selfish and cheated on him, plus on top of that didn’t have the stones to come clean. People think she was a strong person and while she was tough like Penny in regards to her taking care of things (fighter, gun enthusiast, etc), deep down inside she is a very weak person.

as someone who was rooting for ted and robin for all of the earlier seasons, this scene is why i hate the ending so much. they concluded the ted/robin thing here and they did it so well. this scene, especially set to Shake It Out and all those yellow umbrellas, is so great and i clearly remember having a reaction to it. it made me realize ted/robin wouldn't work and he clearly says that time won't change how she feels about him. and then they went ahead and did THAT.

@Thialas
@Thialas 2 жыл бұрын
yeah, the fucking morons gave us a shit ending. I believe one of their pathetic excuses for robin and barney not working out is that the writers said some shit about "some people just don't change", which is true. But we've seen Barney change throughout the series. All for them to flush his development down the drain. If he truly would not have changed, he'd have remained the same character from the 1st time we saw him to the last. Another excuse is they said they had already filmed the ending right from the start, and with the kids being older it'd be hard to pull of a different ending, which once again, is bullshit. They could just have made the kids super old to exagerate the comedy of ted taking too long to explain the story, and then him being shocked at how old they are or something. Either way, point is the writers were shit, they ruined everything with the ending.
@HBQ
@HBQ 2 жыл бұрын
@@Thialas yes, agreed the reasons are bs. however, absolutely no part of me has a hard time believing barney and robin would have gotten divorced. i know people love that couple but i feel like the show showed multiple times that they both bring out the worst in each other (e.g. their first breakup and when they both cheat on their partners). i just don't think the ending should've had ted and robin come together either. plus pretty damn pointless to have a wholeass season centered around a couple's wedding to just break them up in one episode. just absolute shit planning through and through.

Robin bringing up their “deal at 40” always makes me feel like she wanted Ted around as a safety net. She wanted him to still give her the same amount of love and special attention he always has. If Ted marries someone else, that goes away, which is why I think Robin only ever wanted him when he was with someone else. I don’t blame her for feeling that way. I think we all have people in our lives who we love (just not in the way they need us to) who we don’t want to be with because we don’t make sense as a couple, who we also don’t want to be with anyone else because we’d miss them being our person. And Robin did the most selfless thing she could here by telling him no. She didn’t love him in that way, and so despite needing him as a friend, she let him go.

Well, Ted loved the mother because she has everything Ted wanted in a relationship, in life but with Robin it was different. @@detectivedaffodil437 it's the way I perceived the show. People are angry because the title is "How I met your mother" but the mother was barely seen throughout the show but failed to understand that the point of the show was just to show how he indeed met her. Basically it was Robin who led Ted to the mother. Ted wanted Robin to be "The One" but she wasn't (given their different views in life) and it led him to look for someone to give him the same outlook that he has. The mother's color is yellow because it portrays happiness, comfort and security while Robin's was blue. It may be sad but it also causes feeling of calmness and familiarity. No matter how Ted was hurt because of Robin, he will always go back because he always knew her by heart. Yellow represents love being easy and not complicated whole Blue shows if you are destined for each other, you will really end up together no matthet what.

He finally managed to let go off robin, then he fell in love with tracy. He realized, that the door with the name "robin" is closed. But then, 6 years after tracys death, he realized something: That door isn't closed anymore. So yes, if tracy hadn't died, ted and robin wouldn't have (presumably) gotten together, because that door would have stayed closed ... for Robin. I don't know, whether Robin is the love of his life or if Tracy is. And frankly, it doesn't matter. All that we can do, is to love our next as much as we can. Because its, what we do best. Don't wait for "the one". MAKE her be "the one". This is the bottom line I took from this show.

Omg I just realised smth. We all think about the Mother when we see yellow umbrella but it gives a meaningful vibe to the last scene. Ted says "the world is wide open" before speaking of doors and is surprised as to why there is so many yellow umbrellas. Which means that those represent all the doors that can possibly lead to his true love. It seems so dumb now that I realised it but I'm pretty sure it's what it means.

I didn't care for the ending, because the mother character was portrayed so well by the actress. The mother character Tracy was the character that many people upset with the ending didn't see coming. I personally had no clue she would be so great. When the audience saw her for the first time buying a bus ticket we had no clue we would like her chemistry with Ted so much that many people would not want to see Ted with anyone else. I think it was for that reason people were so mad that the show "killed the character" just so Ted could end up with Robin. Robin was an interesting woman but Tracy was Ted's soul mate. I wanted a happy ever after but I guess that is life, you don't always get what you want.

Heath Kruidenier what in god’s name are you talking about? You must have been watching a different show than the one I’ve watched. There is literally nothing that goes against any character. Robin and Ted had chemistry, what they lacked was timing. While Ted wanted to get married, have kids and settle down. Robin didn’t want to have kids and wanted to Roam the world and focus on her career. But by the time they got back together, Ted already have had kids, and robin finally left her job back in 2020 “it was in a deleted scene” and was ready to settle down. Also the Ending literally has absolutely nothing to do with friends. I have no idea why you have decided to bring that up.

Ted and Robin getting together in their 50s doesn't have to be the passionate young love that Ted was seeking as a younger man. It could just be two adults who like each other's company, settling down, and having a mellow relationship with a sexual component. Happens a lot with older couples that have lost a partner in a previous marriage. I just never thought Ted/Robin were written to be clearly compatible. The S9 backlash came because they WASTED episodes on the wedding, rather than walking us through time to show how the characters evolved. Robin was incapable of settling down and having a traditional family, because as Ted explained it, she was trying to validate herself through opportunities after the trauma caused by her father that fostered a feeling of inadequacy.

Even though I would've liked Ted and Tracy together forever, as well as Barney and Robin, I'm fine with the finale. Life just doesn't always go the way you think it's gonna go. Trials come when you least expect them, and I like that the show portrayed that side of life. I believe that, deep down, Robin always loved Ted. There's a reason why she was so upset when he was marrying Victoria. Feelings are way too complicated to be so strict about them. Maybe there was a time when Robin didn't have strong feelings for Ted, but that can change. That's why I love this show so much. It tells real, humane stories.

Plus it’s enraging how robin pulled a 180 and chilled with ted after all that time. I mean sure there are some feelings no one can deny that. You know having a true Yes / No is a huge difference. I had a huge crush on a girl for like 3 years and honestly there's nothing wrong with here. She's just everything you can wish for but she rejected me 1,5years down the line (at first she was interested so it was in no way onsided). After that I somehow hoped that she would turn around or smth happens which changes it all. But recently I learned from a friend of mine and her that they are dating and looking for a marriage. And honestly I understand why Ted is happy. I'm happy for them and happy that I can slowly let her go. I'm not fully over her yet but after learning from this barely 1 month ago it's way better than the years proceeding that.

"- For Ted's sake, i hate to say this but... pay up." "- Not yet." One of the best lines of the entire series, in that moment i knew it that Ted and Robin would end up together.

HIMYM does scenes so well... All the time... especially endings to episodes... Consider this and the Farhampton bus station scene where 'The Funeral' by Band of Horses is playing...

That's the thing about Ted he's a very whole hearted person who goes all in. Robin knew that and that's why she didn't want to let go which is incredibly selfish. Lot of people do that. They find someone who loves them who they don't love, and they can't let them go because they don't want to not have the person at all. It's horrible.

This scene is beautiful and it makes me cry. I got really emotional too twice. Once when the Florence and the Machine song came on, the other time Ted walks out of the bar and everyone has his future wife’s yellow umbrella.

People are acting like Barney and Robin were perfect for each other and completed each other in ways Ted and Robin couldnt... But what's the difference really? Both relationships broke up because of Robin's career drive. If he loved Barney more than Ted, she would choose Barney over her career. Or she wouldnt be waiting for the chance for something to happen to break off the wedding, or think about running off with Ted. All in all, her character development was the poorest amongst the characters. She always wanted what she couldnt have. Ted was there, ready to marry her if she said the word, but Barney was unpredictible and he was always a challenge for her. I think she fell in love with the fact that a character like Barney decided to settle just for her rather than Barney himself. Then Ted and Tracy got married, had children, which made her jealous of the mother. So who she loved more in the end, i dont think we'll ever know. That fact wont change just because she married Barney. It was mostly because right place right time never happened with Ted and Robin. And Barney's ending was perfect. It would be unrealistic to think he would change his ways for a woman, but for a daughter? He's been saying how he is ready to be a father since the 7th season...

sum moner so they were toxic for 7 episode and they got over it, which every good couple does. They have a rough patch and go through it. Their relationship had development which Ted and Robin did not have.

I'm in this kind of situation right now. Fell for a friend I can't be with for sure but I keep clinging on any little chance I get to be close to him. The whole world is closed for me, I can't even move the city because of the "but what if" thought. That 0.1% of the chance is keeping me down to ground, I feel so broken and empty, I have no one to talk it through with, I'm just letting this go at least somewhere, under this 6 years old video of my favourite show. I've watched it when I was in my teen age and I felt bad for Ted, but understanding him fully here now makes it so much worse. I can't move on, I can't give up, I can't forget about that tiny little possibility, I don't want anyone else while I know that there is That one person. I need so much help, I need so much advice, i need so much support. "We're great as friends." We sure are, but we could be so much better as something more than just friends.

Contrary to what the comments say this is perfectly lines up with how the show ended. You have to remember Kevin just left Robin because she didn't want kids and he did. She knew how much Ted wanted kids and that someday he'd realize what he lost by choosing her. She did love him but couldn't say so.

This video hit me pretty hard. I recently said ''i love you'' to a girl and she didn't say it back. The reality is that this hurts on many levels. It's not very realistic how easy Ted deals with the rejection of Robin. Anyway HIMYM is the best sitcom ever made.
