West rule the world because they moved away from clutches of religion and moved towards reason and science. This kid could be doing so much more right in heart of silicon valley. Learn about singularity, renaissa, (hope he still does it despite being so much into rituals). There are ways to be disciplined other than being so much into rituals. Even in Gita krishna says best way to reach him is gyan yoga (all three ways(gyan, bhakti and karma) no one has rituals).

I lived for 20 yrs in India, learned to speak , read and write Hindi and studied Yoga, one of the many gifts India has given the world! I found Hindu people to be friendly and intelligent and never once was attacked verbally for my countries (England) shameful treatment of India during the days of empire, that I am ashamed of. I learned so much from India and want to say thank you for improving my life through my study of your ancient culture! I also got to meet that great singer Jagjit Singh (RIP) and still play Bhajans by him every morning whilst practising my Hatha Yoga Asanas. Namaskar Rajiv Ji!

I’m an Indian student living in Australia, just graduated. I have been living just like this young man. Sometimes our known ones are the first to ridicule but I don’t really care. I have my thiruman kaappu on my forehead, wear my dhoti outside and get asked by friends “is this how you roll, aren’t the people mocking you bla bla” but I always say other than Indians, nobody really have any opinions and in fact, people respect that. I have diet restrictions like garlic, onion, mushroom, meat, etc. which is hard to find outside. So I cook everyday and I only eat food that are spiritually offered to the god.

@@pollyannamacintosh786 I love your comment. It'sad that so many Indians will make these ridiculous and outrages comments completely forgetting that it was karma to die when he did. It had sod all to do who he spoke to shook hands with what utensils he ate in etc. Those comments are true ignorance. I am a very strict hindu and vegetarian and will never lay blame at someone else's door when I die. That moment is written BEFORE we are born. I respect this young guy and the lifestyle he has chosen. To really follow such vedic values one should live life in an isolated space, grow your own veg and cook your own food to eliminate contamination as much as possible. I know what I am talking about because I know of someone who does just that. When this young man walks past a kebab shop he will ingest minute particles of the kebab being cooked. I could go on and on. When we chase the rupee and fame it's as far from being vedic as I can imagine. Maybe in time he will realize what my comment is all about. Meanwhile, Pollyanna your observation is spot on.

Ill health (which he already had) and severe vitamin deficiency were the contributing factors in his situation. Bear in mind the situation at the time, tailored facilities of quiet alcohol-free dormitories and students prevented from enjoying life would not have delayed the inevitable. Of course, he died in India and journey back home could not have helped.

good. you didn't waste your time on shit. spend it on more useful things. Sanskrit is dead and deservedly so. there is nothing in Sanskrit that is not available in any developed Indian literary language like Kannada or Telugu or Tamil. May be not Hindi. so if you want good literature and content, simply learn a language like Kannada or Marathi or something. all these self-styled Sanskrit students and even gurus wouldn't be able to speak two sentences in Sanskrit if their life depended on it.

mjgunnis Sanskrit is not just another language from the galaxy of languages, but it’s a Science of sounds - the sounds of the Universe - those sounds discovered by our Rishis just like they discovered a million other existential facts. So now it all depends on whether one wants to explore or just survive. Thankfully, the conversation is moving from ‘learn only English to survive and for everything else’ to ‘learn anyIndian language even if not just to survive’

It is a very interesting development. However, there might be need to be very precise as to what is being mentioned. The languages of South-Asia were not really Sanskrit. But then the Christian missionaries did insert Sanskrit all over the subcontinent into minute languages and create the current-day languages of India. Tamil might be different in that there is practically very little Sanskrit in pureTamil. However, the general feature of all the languages in the subcontinent is that of being feudal languages. That is, the higher persons are addressed as Aap, Saab, MemSaab Ji, Chettan, Annan &c. by the lower positioned person in a pose of servility and servitude, and the lower placed persons are addressed in the pejorative usages such as Nee, Thoo, Eda, Edi etc. Both Sanskrit as well as Tamil has this feature. It would be quite interesting to see how this young aspiring man can insert a feudal language communication code into a planar-language code English social system. If he can successfully do it, he can convert the US social system into Indian social system.

It is heart warming to see that Stanford University accommodated his needs and so the university also deserves congratulation. And last but not least I thank Rajivji for presenting this story. Love you all.

This is very interesting! I hail from Kerala, born and brought up in a spiritual Hindu family. Our family never ate beef - which was rare to see in Kerala, even in most Hindu families. Even this choice of mine based on my religious belief was ridiculed and seen in awe by many there in Kerala. And the thing is that there are many facilities in Kerala such that the Muslim believers are enables to carry on with their prayers 5 times a day wherever they are - apart from the mosques. What kind of secularism do we have in India?! Needless to say that Kerala has no regard for any of the Hindu practices! it is quite disturbing.

Having graduated in Calcutta, I had a very tough time surviving naxals, Marxists and Leninists. Being a hard core vegetarian, non alcoholic and non smoker, I had to face mockery and fun. These people often used to smoke in my room which was shared by others. For Pooja, I used to face the wall and do my mental recitations. For meditation, I used to climb the mega water tank over the roof in the evening while my mates were out for films, dining or boozing. I had to 'import' my food from Baḍā Bāzār but these 'liberals' created problem for that too. They were very uncomfortable with my sāttvic lifestyle. Hostel and college administration was almost hand in gloves with them. Although, I have wiped out my college time memories from my mind it made me a tough nut. Can't compromise with my hard earned Manushya yónī, Bhārateeyatā, Dwija janma and on top all sadbuddhi.

My wife & I are extremely impressed by Siddharth's storey, and of his life at Stanford. An excellent, proud, practicing Hindu who is well versed in Sanskrit & English and a brilliant scholar. Establishing for himself a Sathvik Environment in the Dorms of Stanford is a wonderful achievement of his tenacity and perseverance . Myself being an illiterate in Sanskrit and also about our Shastras and Practices and their values, I feel really ashamed to have spent 82 years of my life without learning or understanding anything about my religion or culture or the most scientific language of the world - Sanskrit. My only humble request to Siddharth is that he should devote his learning and experience to spread the value of our religion & culture and mainly Teach Sanskrit in the most scientific way to as many students as possible. He is one in a trillion and he should use his gifts given by Paramathma to the benefit of humanity. May the Almighty give him good health, enough wealth and single mindedness ( Sthira Bhuddi) to achieve whatever he wants to do. May the great Rishis like Bhrigu, Vyasa, Vashista & Viswamitra guide him all the way to achieve his goals in life. K.R.Ramasubramanian. PUNE - India- 91 - 9665031937 - kr.rampadma@gmail.com

What a positive change! Usually these videos of Rajivji tend to be somewhat depressing with him showing us the realities of Hinduphobia, Westernization of Sanskrit, thoroughly brain washed so-called liberals both in India and outside, the status of affairs in India, etc. Here we have something really inspiring, a young, bright, articulate Generation Z kid showing the way. Hope to see and hear more of Siddhartha's progress.
