I am new to Hinduism. I have been exploring the various spiritual traditions and scriptures to find 'the truth.' I really appreciate you and your videos. Very few people have bothered explaining the shastras, their content and use, i am certain 90% of Hindus themselves, let alone non-Hindus, would not be aware of the information you so kindly provided in this video. That you were able to explain it so comprehensively in 12minutes proves how lazy our pandits, gurus & swamis etc have been so far in making Hindus aware of the faith in either its simple basic form or the more deeply philosophical form. So i would like to express my sincere gratitude & appreciation for your work

@@Nverdis its not just that they find things "offputting". its their hate, slander, malignment, appropiation, digestion, deprivement of rights, speech, thoughts, identity, heritage, inheritance. its about a genocide which they are planning against hindus. and its about the power they have. 90% of indian media (specially private news channels) is bought by european missionary organizations. as someone from the west you surely know the narrative your media has about india and hinduism, right? also, you've surely heard the very western rumor that "jews own all world media". well it seems thats just an antisemitic lie that christian missionaries invented. because in india we have real validated proof that world media is owned by christians not jews. also, even if leftists, missionaries and jihadis may be opponents sonewhere else, in india they all gang up to kill hindus. literally kill.

As an atheist who's looking at Hinduism for the first time, started meditating 20 mins a day, and is beginning to understand why ego and hubris can cause more anxiety/problems than it solves, I had a question about the role of "tradition." Although it may feel nice to be a part of a long-running project so many people of your in-group have built together, I'm reluctant to accept "tradition" or what my parents (or ancestors) want for me as inherently good. Im half English & half American, most of the latter are decent, but I do in fact have a grandpa and uncle who dont take kindly to LGBT ppl or dark-skinned immigrants. Also, my American individualism seems to butt heads with concepts like "Men should be out fighting wars and working a mining job while women should be house/family-oriented even if their talents say otherwise." Though I sincerely believe Eastern collectivist mentality can forge strong trusting relationships spanning entire communities, I also feel that the group isn't always right all the time and that some traditions survive more out of habit than out of merit. I have anarchist (academic, non-violent) leanings and tend to believe authority and morality are unrelated things. I was wondering how I could reconcile that "Question the system, don't follow blindly" spirit with the "Let's be a part of the group and give up some freedom for this cool project we've been working on" thing of the East
@swatisri24095 жыл бұрын
Nverdis Hindus don’t “follow the system blindly”.. Not all of them do, because we are free to seek our own personal truth which maybe different from the traditions our family/community follows. That is why we have atheists who are Hindus. You don’t have to follow any ritual or tradition blindly at all - just be respectful towards others traditions, beliefs and rituals. We don’t practice “religious tolerance”, we practice “religious acceptance” acceptance that the path you follow will also lead you to the ultimate truth, just like the path we follow will lead us to truth. That is why we do not have any issues with Christians or muslims practicing their religion. There are various paths to truth - it doesn’t matter which one you follow, all of us will end up there, ultimately.

Prevent Misinterpretation Of DharmaShastras. Patrick Olivelle, a professor of Sanskrit and Indian Religions and credited with modern translations of Vedic literature, Dharma-sutras and Dharma-sastras, states that ancient and medieval Indian texts do not support the ritual pollution, purity-impurity premise implicit in the Dumont theory. According to Olivelle, purity-impurity is discussed in the Dharma-sastra texts, but only in the context of the individual's moral, ritual and biological pollution (eating certain kinds of food such as meat, going to bathroom). Olivelle writes in his review of post-Vedic Sutra and Shastra texts, "we see no instance when a term of pure/impure is used with reference to a group of individuals or a varnaor caste". The only mention of impurity in the Shastra texts from the 1st millennium is about people who commit grievous sins and thereby fall out of their varna. These, writes Olivelle, are called "fallen people" and considered impure in the medieval Indian texts. The texts declare that these sinful, fallen people be ostracised.[86] Olivelle adds that the overwhelming focus in matters relating to purity/impurity in the Dharma-sastra texts concerns "individuals irrespective of their varna affiliation" and all four varnas could attain purity or impurity by the content of their character, ethical intent, actions, innocence or ignorance (acts by children), stipulations, and ritualistic behaviors.[87]
