I'm 29 y.o. girl with long hair and your version of slow living speaks to me much more than that aesthetically pleasing versions that you've mentioned (like sitting in a log cabin, drinking tea and watching the grass grow). For me planning and organising activities that are interesting is essential to live a life that I enjoy and want. If I don't do that, I'll probably end up sitting down in front of a screen (phone or laptop). Your accent is nice (I understand everything, although English is not my native language:) I'm glad I found your channel, I really needed this. Greetings!

My friend, I have only discovered your videos this morning. I too am from Gods country in the very North of England, I grew up in site and sound of the river and the fields. I spent my childhood with a Border terrier and a fishing rod. Later years seen me get a career and work hard for a life I never wanted but others aspired me to do. It has taken me to my 50's to realise I had the richest childhood anyone could have had. I am now in my second childhood, a Border terrier saved my life, he took me back to the places I had forgotten to rediscover the things I missed. Thank God for what he has given us, thank God for this life.

I'm 65. I was forced into the slow life in my late 50s from a damaged nerve in my jaw and a few eye surgeries. I can't plan my day until I wake to determine what pain level I'm dealing with. It was hard to change my time management life after raising 3 as a single parent but once I accepted it I am grateful. I don't stress about getting things done anymore. My favorite thing to do is get up early, sit on my patio and just watch nature going about business. That's when the universe decides what I'll do that day. Funny how it rarely resembles what I try to plan the night before. Being outside is healing and meditative. I no longer worry about what I thought had to be done.

As you describe there are so many videos out there that equate slowing down with doing very little. That's just not practical ... or frankly desirable for me. How refreshing to find a video that says ... its OK to do stuff, it's OK to have a plan to keep busy, it's OK to have hobbies and interests ... just do all this at your own pace. Keep busy ... doing what brings you happiness. Thank you !!

Sensible, kind and reassuring advice! I used to be a sucker for the 'slow life log-cabin' videos... but I realised although they are inspirational, they were actually making me feel like my life wasn't enough? I'm from the South of England, have been living in Norway for 1.5 years and have just moved back to South England again. My phrase for slow living in this part of the world is 'low key loveliness'. I don't know how I came up with that, it just popped into my head, but it seems to fit the quiet, soft nature we have here and peoples attitude towards each other as human beings (in general anyway!). Keep up the great videos! They are very nice to watch.

Neil Peart (RIP) drummer of Rush said “what is the most excellent thing I can do today.” This mantra I myself use each day. We really do need to make the most use of our available time on this earth. My grandmother used to say, “The chair will get you, if you let it.” Which alludes to what you said. I also use meditation and have done yoga. Try to stay standing as much as possible and maintain a good posture. I now do the Asian squat, read up on that. Take care all.

There are many slow living videos on KZbin, and many of them are just too perfect and unattainable. I doubt many live like that. I think a lot is just for KZbin. I live a very ordinary life in a terraced hour in an industrial town. I just live with less consumerism, less material goods, more time in nature and a more peaceful atmosphere at home. Many of my videos explain my take on it. Anyone can live a slower life. I have for years. I’m truly happy and at peace, and am sure my lifestyle contributes to that. 😊❤️

When we were little, we were outside playing almost every opportunity we could. Do you remember 'why dont you?' which was a tv program aimed at getting children actually to make their own entertainment. I think its harder now for everyone because so much that was accessible and free has been 'commercialised'. Even the seaside is about buying on the prom rather than swimming and picnics.

This is brilliant advice, and it comes to me at the perfect time. The concept of 'making a plan' for those slow days really is crucial, too often i take the 'take life as it comes' approach and this can often lead to an unproductive day and that feeling of regret when you've wasted it.

There are seasons to life; having a family and raising good people is a busy season, but the fruits of that busy season are worth everything. I love our five children, they are my best friends and I've learned so much from them. They are all grown and gone from home now, so life is slower and less hectic. I can indulge in my hobbies and just sit and read if I want to. To want to "slow down" before you've even had a busy season seems rather strange to me.

Now in my late 50s with various health issues I've slowed down, I like to walk and appreciate all I can see, hear, smell, touch and sometimes taste. I've been into foraging for about 8 years now and I'm learning new things every time I go out. I love your videos- you always make me smile ‘Uncle Nigel’. 😊 I retired in January and am so much enjoying life lived on my own terms. I plan my days but at a slow pace - making sure I get in the things that are important to me. My ‘productive’ day starts at 9.30 am. I normally get up about 5.30 am. Like you, I do a 20 minute Transcendental meditation OR mindfulness meditation. I do a short yoga stretch (about 5-10 minutes). This is followed by Morning Pages (Julia Cameron style). I only write 1 x A5 page of journalling and not the 30 minutes suggested. I enjoy a hot lemon drink. My day always has time for getting out in nature. I tend to be one of those ‘power walkers’ because I like to get out of breath and feel my muscles working. I plan to start running (as soon as I shake off my cold!). Thank you for making this content. I love hearing your views and opinions. ❤

Hello from Australia! Love your rambles and thoughts. I've no idea what the young people think a slow life is. Farming is constant hard work while wearing jeans and dirty boots, not floaty white dresses. Perhaps a slow life is doing things for yourself like cooking your meals, hanging your washing on a clothes line in the sun, getting your own groceries, mending and repairing. Or perhaps walking rather than driving? I don't know, it sounds like normal life to me. What's a fast life? Noticing the speed at which your next birthday arrives? Gets faster the older you get!

I am 30 years old and I agree with the idea of slowing down not necessarily meaning doing nothing all day. I also fell into this trap, but with relaxation. After work all I wanted to do was to relax.. and I’d relax and really not feel like doing anything with my life. I wouldn’t want to clean or cook for myself either because that was “work” and “chores” and I would just end up scrolling KZbin shorts and TikTok videos. However about two months ago I started playing a game with my boyfriend in the evening before we go to sleep and I noticed that it made me feel so much better. I used to think that gaming would just make my little bit of free time go by unattended, but I found having something to do actually got my mind off work and made my life feel like my life isn’t just all about work. I am also implementing this in the morning when I can and do other things before I start work. Sometimes all I do is sit on the balcony and watch a longer KZbin-video. Sometimes I tidy up the kitchen or clean the bathroom. Sometimes I go to the store and sometimes I just spend more time making breakfast and enjoying it. “Keep busy but at a slower pace”. You nailed it. This is what slow living is about. It’s about not rushing from one thing to another. It’s about prioritizing things and giving yourself the time you need to do them and enjoy the final result. I noticed that whenever I slow down I find myself practicing more self care and just like you said, smelling more, hearing more, seeing more.. things that were actually always already there.

To me slow living means quiet living. So many people seem to have this need to be entertained, distracted from their lives or stimulated every waking minute. I haven't had a TV or radio for 16 years. I live in a big city but still have quiet.

I think every part of living simply and slowly hinges around quiet and peace. I can be in many environments, but the common denominator has to be quite. I’m writing this whilst sitting on a fallen tree in the middle of a wood….. and it’s so quiet.

My auntie sadie lived in Horwich in a little terrace. She worked in a factory hemming towels back in the 70s. Would you know which factory.

I’ve only lived in Horwich for a year. Before that I lived on a narrowboat in Adlington and before that in Leigh. I’ve always lived in the area, but I’m still discovering Horwich. It’s a nice little town that pulled itself up by its bootstraps after the railway closures all but destroyed it.

One common thread through slow living is having fewer time commitments, right? Then, a person is less likely to have to rush from one thing to the next.
@primalengland6 ай бұрын
Very true. I’m working my way through different aspects of slow living, but each video has to be on a specific point, because it’s such a huge subject to explore. I’ve just been out this morning recording some footage about how anyone can introduce slow living into their lives, regardless of their lifestyle.
@aNaturalist6 ай бұрын
@primalengland yes, several focus topics! I do wonder if you also consider it simple living? Then, there's overlap with frugal living, and on it goes..... "Simple living" was somewhat hijacked by advertising. Voluntary Simplicity was the name of a similar movement. It has been criticized as being middle class consuming in the US, by a well known author, but in Australia Voluntary Simplicity has remained more frugal.

@@aNaturalist I’ve mentioned in videos that I’m not comfortable with ‘slow living’ I don’t know why we have to hang a label on it. I they started calling it ‘simple living’, but even that puts you squarely in a genre. Frugal living is good. In today’s society we have to departmentalise everything. I don’t want to, but if I didn’t, the KZbin algorithm would ignore me.

I have a part time partner that wakes me up in the morning, shouting ; Come on Come on, hurry up, we have to go to the countryside to relax. Quickly then, Quickly. It's like waking up to an SaS raid and it will then take more than a trip to a field to recover my equilibrium. Some people have no understanding whatsoever 🙄 Meditation is exactly in line with proper appreciation ❤

😂😂😂😂😂 You have no idea how pertinent this comment is. I had a relationship with someone who would spring out of bed at about 6, then when I went downstairs she would demand to know why I hadn’t planned our countryside itinerary for the day. She had no connection to the countryside. She just wanted to use it as a workout. It was exhausting. She’s in another relationship now………. Poor guy.
