Thank you for watching. The production of this video has been an enormous part of my life for many months now, so I'm happy to finally show you all what I can do. Please consider supporting my output of these videos through my Patreon - www.patreon.com/hintshot. Any bit of support helps, truly. Otherwise, I have a Discord server where you can come talk about anything you like with me, and other supporters of the channel - discord.gg/Z3PUnw8. We have a lovely community and I would love for anyone who's even remotely interested in what I do to come get involved. I will be releasing the soundtrack to this video (made by me) in about a week's time, with an extras video following some time after that, going over anything I missed or any mistakes I might have let slip. Please feel free to comment what you would like to see in the extras video below. I will also probably be doing a milestone Q&A at some point, so look forward to that. Until then, I'll see you when I see you. Cheerio. -H

As an experienced Heavy main, I can confirm we get backstabbed so often we end up subconsciously learning how to think like both spy and sniper. We get hit with sudden, overwhelming premonitions when we're about to be stabbed or shot just by reading the game. People like to say Heavy has a low skill-ceiling, but he MORE then makes up for it with his ridiculously high game-sense ceiling.

Sometimes a heavy turns around at the most inconvenient time and kills me, and when that happens I’m not even mad, since that was a display of skill by the heavy. He read my mind before knowing I even exist and I can respect that. I can tell they’re a heavy main. But I’ve also learned how to counter these guys. Basically, when you have the most perfect opportunity to backstab them, you don’t take it, you wait for them to spy check, and when they turn back around again you have a window of about 2 seconds where you can stab them. You just need to prepare for that tiny window and be generally unpredictable.

I'm a spy main, 3.5 mins into the video and I already am so happy someone FINALLY addresses the absolute most FRUSTRATING parts of spy. Most non spy players think its just pyros, but they don't understand the absolute crushing pain of seeing an opportunity for a massive chainstab and then having your backstab become a failstab as the entire enemy team turns around to kill you.

There's another reason it's called a butterknife to hit someone like that: Spy's knife is called a ButterFLY knife, take away the fly and it's just a butterknife. It's almost like a play on words, though I doubt it was intended to be whenever the terminology was invented.
@jbook4719

We are sharing acrobatic achievements? Try walking through the entire enemy team actively spychecking, with two pyros literally waving around, you going through the middle, mid their uber push, with nothing but cloak, never bumping into anyone and passing through the other side unharmed. If my aim wasn't literallly as harmless as covid, I would be a menace, because my movement is top tier.

13:29 just want to say that since melee hits and all detection for backstabs use the collision hull or x,z position, the collision hull is the same for all classes, so if you have a static heavy and a static scout, they will be just as easy to backstab.

That's just the design of spy, if people are cautious and coordinated spy gameplay is very difficult. If a pyro is doing nothing but spraying every half-inch of walkable ground with fire every half-second, if you get caught and focused down you have no option but to either be perfect at escaping, or perfect at killing, or just die. I don't think you'll find a pyro with that mindset anytime soon (maybe me if you find me in casual, or pyros in HL) but spychecking is the main counter to spy, there's no real avoiding it.

Not even gonna lie, this is probably the best Spy tutorials I've ever seen. Editing was on point, information was really accurate and jokes landed. This was great! 10/10. I did want to add a useful tip for newer spys to the comment as well. If your using a weapon like the kuni and need HP badly near spawn, or in general stabbing near the bad gamers spawn, using the respawn list at the top to see whos dead or alive can be super useful as well as looking back before you go for the uncloak then stab. It's pretty embarrassing to get a stab then get random crit by a medic you didn't see behind you. Its always the medics......

I've been playing alot of spy recently, and you covered alot, from the basics to the more meta game stuff where you are in people's heads. I have a few thousand hours and spy is somewhere in the middle in terms of hours played. I will say that, although matadoring and corner stabbing is second nature, and there are some great maps for dropstabbing, I still am not good at stair stabbing and have never hit a surfstab! So there's more stabbing to be had.. I also think that spy hones my game sense and joking abilities better than any other class. Happy stabbing, and great video :)

3:17 That's weird, seeing a reference to a bad, german porn in the TF2 chat of a content creator that does englich-voiced content...strange times indeed. Aside from that, your narrations are always nice to listen to, so count me entertained.

this video is amazingly well made! as much as spy gets on my nerves I still learnt so much and on top of that the video was super entertaining which I feel a lot of content creators forget when making tutorials and stuff like this. definitely the best tf guide I’ve seen full stop

Your channel is criminally underrated. The production quality rivals the biggest names of TFTubers and the knowledge presented is both incredibly useful to newbies in explaining the basic concepts of backstabs and a tool for those dedicating themselves to improving as spy to understand the more intrinsic aspects of a backstab. I hope you get the recognition that you very much deserve.

A few days ago i didn't do a surfstab, but rather a "surfshot", if i can call it that. Basically a soldier launched me into the air and i used my diamondbreak crit to gun down his medic in one shot. Gotta say i felt cool as hell, even tho i died

THANK YOU so much for for making this video. It's so relatable doing a failstab or happening a butterknife moment and you think "why this happens to me?". We think of that because 99% of TF2 KZbinrs always describe spy as an "untouched god who can kill everyone easily".

I can't even say how much I love the spy theme mixed with the tron legacy theme. It's one of the few times I've looked through a sizeable portion of the comment section and haven't seen anyone compliment this specific mix, so I just wanted to say that you did an insanely well job with it

It's almost unreasonable to expect someone make a video about a class in a game that existed for over 13 years now and you get this much appreciation for it via like ratio. All I can say is, it feels great seeing the most creative (or just simply not lazy) members of the community filling it with new content. Spy's also my guilty pleasure and I always enjoy additional insight into mastering that frenchman. Great video

If I may be honest, I don’t play TF2, however the videos that you make are really informative and very well constructed. The fact that you do everything yourself and it’s got this high level of polish to it is not only commendable, but exemplary. I hope that your channel grows exponentially.
