"This song was actually written about my now-husband. I’d been in a really bad, abusive relationship, which had been very difficult for a long time. I thought that I was doing a pretty good job of pretending I was OK, but Josh [Hartzler, Amy’s husband], this guy that I didn’t know really well but I liked a lot, we went into a restaurant while my bandmembers were parking the car. When we sat down, he looked at me right in the eyes, and said, ‘Are you happy?’ It just caught me really off guard. I felt very exposed, but it felt good at the same time - like he could see me. ‘How can you see into my eyes like open doors?’” -- Amy Lee

Lacuna Coil's female singer Cristina Scabbia is off the chain with her vocals. They are an Italian gothic metal band from Milan. I saw them live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana September of 2003 when they opened for Type O Negative. That show blew my mind. Try their song "Heaven's A Lie." It's a banger!

The controversy surrounding the male singer on Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life" centers on the label's pressure to add a male vocal to the song to make it successful: Label pressure The label told Amy Lee that the song wouldn't be released without a male vocal because nobody would listen to a female rock singer. Lee's compromise Lee wrote the part for Paul McCoy of the band 12 Stones as a compromise. Lee's re-release In 2017, Lee re-released the song without McCoy's vocals, removing what she felt made the song silly. Lee's perspective Lee has said that she was forced to compromise for fame, but now she's doing it her own way. "Bring Me to Life" is a nu metal-rap rock song by the American rock band Evanescence. The song won Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards.

Great reaction MollyBoy! I was 25 when this came out, and was absolutely captivated by Amy Lee's incredible voice! This song is such a banger! I like both this and the album versions. I'm in agreement with Amy, the male vocals aren't necessary, but they don't ruin the song either! Seeing them live, it's the album version - and it's equally powerful. Amy carries the song. The strength an clarity of Amy Lee's vocals is unparalleled. There's a certain alchemy between the high piercing tones and the numetal backing track. Interesting enough, you can get a similar effect from certain Babymetal tracks: eg., Bring Me the Horizon's Kingslayer. (Su-metal isn't exactly Amy Lee - who is?-, but she does have a nice clear voice.) "Rondo of Nightmare" is another such track, IIRC.

She sounds just as great live. We took our teen daughter to see them with, of all the bands out there, KORN!! One of the best concerts I’ve been to. The diversity of the audience was noticeable but all were there for both bands. Great music is just great music. It can be soft, thrashing or anything in between but Rock is, in my opinion, the genre that has a way of bringing people together like no other. My Immortal, Going Under, Call Me when You’re Sober (written for Shaun Morgan lead singer of Seether during their breakup) which leads to Broken which she sings with Shaun Morgan (Seether). Just a small few you may want to check out.
