@@logankrotzer8770 For sure. The SP singles were not their best songs by a long shot. Hummer is my #1 song of theirs depending on the day. Other days it could be Mayonaise, Thru the Eyes of Ruby, Porcelina, Soma... Cherub Rock would be way up there too. Disarm and 1979 do have a certain lasting charm about them as well.

I was eleven years old when Siamese Dream released in 1993. Ever since then The Smashing Pumpkins have been my favorite band. The perfect balance of soft and heavy music. Every album from Gish-Machina is great. 1988-2000 would be the years. Since then, Billy Corgan has released solo albums, and more pumpkins stuff, along with ZWAN. ZWAN's album, "Mary Star of the Sea" is also really good. Billy is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and is real fun to listen to in interviews as well. He knows a lot. I have subscribed after seeing your reaction. It makes me happy to see the rest of the world get into something I've held close to my heart for 30 years.

Yes! Smashing Pumpkins is one of those bands that have their own singular vibe. Billy's vocals and poetry alone. But the drummer, Jimmy Chamberlain really drives the songs. I'm a big fan of doing "Today" or "Geek U.S.A." for the next tracks. "The Everlasting Gaze" is also a banger. Will try to catch you on the twitch platform. Love this channel!

Welcome to the fold, my friend. The Pumpkins were absolutely one of the most original, influential, and amazing bands of the 90s and are still rocking and as good as ever, with a slightly altered line-up. The album Hummer was included on- Siamese Dream was my first exposure to them, and was for lack of a better word-Perfect. Cherub Rock, the opening track was and still is my favorite song of all time, and SP were and still are my favorite band BAR NONE. Right up there with Pink Floyd, Zepelin, and slightly above, IMHO. Glad you liked. If you liked Melon Collie; check out Machines of God for sure. Fantastic.

This was their break out album. But for us old folks their debut album Gish is my favorite. Parts of it sounds like the Doors. They don't blatantly copy the style of The Doors, but they create a spot on ambience, mood, and feel. Check out "Suffer"

Syed… bud, you unlocked a big ass can of WHOOP ASS when you unlocked Smashing Pumpkins 🎃! Great reaction as usual! I do feel like the lyrics to this one may have perplexed you more than usual. Not any fault of yours, Billy’s lyrics are often perplexing 😁. Why I’m im so hoping you do ‘locked in the trunk of a car’ by the Tragically Hip, cause I haven’t a grip on what those lyrics mean, it’s like a dichotomy. They existed through all of the 90s, before and after..👍

Interesting pick for a first listen to the Pumpkins. My introduction was "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" which, in retrospect, probably isn't necessarily the best intro either, being one of their heaviest. Pumpkins are really all over the place in terms of weight of sound, though thanks to Corgan they're always distinctively Pumpkins. For your next track I'd probably consider something like Cherub Rock or Today; you should also check out 1979 and Tonight, Tonight for a glimpse of their softer side. Edit: Smashing Pumpkins are definitely pure concentrated 90s. Also, Billy Corgan is like 7 ft tall and is totally a vampire.
@ami3627

Or better yet, instead of " Tonight" for a taste of their softer side, try their album _Gish_ & listen to _Melon Collie_ after you run out of love for those 2 albums... off-camera.

You GOTTA check “Mayonaise.” (one ‘n’, but the title did come from mayonnaise - he had no title for it, opened the fridge, saw a bottle of mayo and was inspired, lol). Anyway, it’s one of the TOP TEN songs of the 90s. And I hate ranking shit like that. But it is just amazing.
@_permanence
@_permanence 11 ай бұрын
Nope you just made that up lol. Real story: the band visited Japan in 1992 while touring Gish and noticed that the record company had mistranslated a lyric from Gish into a fan booklet as "mayonnaise seas". The band thought this was funny and used "Mayonaise" as a temporary song title when recording Siamese Dream but it eventually stuck.

Stumbled onto your channel with your Eagles reaction. Absolutely loved it so much, I immediately subscribed. If your doing 90's reactions, Gary Moore's "Still Got The Blues" is one you must react to. Second best guitarist of all time - in my opinion. Of coarse - the GOAT - Stevie Ray Vaughn is the best guitarist to ever walk the face of the planet. A must do is SRV's "Texas Flood" ( live at the El Mocambo version). 1984 but timeless enough to be included in the 90's and beyond.

Heard Hummer accidentally on the radio during a really low time in my life following a break-up that made me feel worthless and hopeless. It changed everything, Corgan's lyrics resonated with me so much: "When you decide that your life is a prize, Renew, revive" It totally woke me up that it was a stage in my life, a stage that would pass. This album and Mellon Collie, I carried them around with me for months on end. Genuinely changed me.

I think you’re right about it being a feel good song emerging from a depth. His lyrics can be quite cryptic but you have good perception! Corgan had just gone through a crippling depression when writing the album. Deciding between taking his own life or not, he took the decision to take life head-on and this is the result. That’s why he also wrote the lyrics, “today is the greatest…”

I warm up to this song on drums every afternoon, and the Pumpkins had a massive fan base before Nirvana as Billy Corgan dated Courtney Love before Kurt, and wrote all her music, and Courtney was still seeing him at the end before Kurt passed ,I'm a fan of the drummer Jimmy Chamberlin ,who said he threw in every chop lick and fill into this album and the kitchen sink, I mean listen to the drums, there crazy...there were a lot of bad things happening behind the scene at the time...Trent Reznor is even in the mix, who wrote a whole album about Courtney, and Kurts best friend which really pissed her off ,On June 16, 1994, Hole bassist Kristen Pfaff died of a heroin overdose? Months prior to Kurts "suicide" Kurt spent hours on the phone talking to Kristen about art, books and music. There is no evidence of a romantic relationship, but their bond was strong. Eric Erlandson was the last person to see Kristen alive on June 16, 1994.

HAHA!! Pumpkins forever bro!! Me and my son love this band and we only started listening 3 years ago lol... You need to check out their songs Soma and Rhinoceros. Their drummer, Jimmy Chamberlain was easily a top 5 rock drummer before the Heroin. Corgan, the lead guy, is a beautiful guitarist/ technician and song writer

The effect at the beginning of the song was achieved by taking a recording of Billy playing the Sitar and playing it backwards
