It's such a joy to watch your reactions to heavy metal because I CAN TELL THAT it is really changing your perceptions! It brings me back to being a 15 year old, laying on my bed stoned, listening to Metallica on cassette Imagine..there wasn't anything like it back in 1984. We had nothing to reference to or compare. It was during the beginnings of the Bay Area heavy music scene. None of this stuff got airplay,it was all underground. In my late teens I met Ron Quintana. A San francisco DJ who gave Metallica their name and is still friends with them to this day. As a grown woman (now 52 yrs old) I met the founder of Testament one of the Bay Areas BIG FOUR and he opened my eyes to a lot more music I had to really listened to. The beautiful thing about metal is not only does it make your spirit soar, giving the feels in all sorts of uncommon ways. But it is ever evolving. Your in for a lifetime of discovery with this genre. I can't explain how excited I am for you! Welcome to the club buddy! We are tight knit and can recognize each other and I'm pretty sure I recognize you! MUCH LOVE❤❤ 🤘yaaaaarrr!

This came out in 2003. This is high school for me. this is when they stopped being just Nu-Metal and became a part of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. I'm talking about bands like Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Avenged Sevenfold, and hundreds of others who mixed death metal, thrash, melodeath, groove, nu metal, and hardcore. The album after this is pure NWOAHM. This is my friend's favorite Slipknot album because they cuss the least on it. Lol. Now go listen to the other single hit on the album.. Duality.

A couple things that you touched on. One, Corey Taylor is correct, he is the lead vocalist. He had another band, Stone Sour, their music is pretty awesome as well. He also has two solo albums and has done collaborations with several other bands. Two, the drums, as already mentioned in the comments, Joey Jordison was the drummer at this time and he was phenomenal! RIP Joey! But another thing to know is that there are two additional percussionists in the band that play a variety of drums and "drum like objects", from standing toms, to kettle drums, to banging on beer kegs with baseball bats. The combined sounds are amazing and unique! Love the reactions! Keep diving deeper! Suggestions - Surfacing, Sulfer, Killpop, AOV, Nero Forte!

The music video is sort of.. less is more. Back when this came out, the band weren't nearly as recognisable without their masks as they are now. The masks still held them in mystery, alongside the artistic reasons why they wore them. A lot more emphasis was put on their anonymity. So the video showing them performing without the masks on hit a bit different back in that day. Killer song for all time though, for real. Glad you're vibing with Slipknot dude, it's a hell of a a kickass rabbit hole to go down.

When this song came out there were two percussionists and a drummer and a DJ that added percussion and also a sound designer and keyboardist who added a lot of textural elements that were related to the rhythm section. Slipknot's Self Titled album showcased it perfectly. The drum parts and extra electronic stuff on that album is absolutely legendary
@RussBMCSGT9 ай бұрын
@@neilpatrickhairless bro, Sid is the the absolute BOMB he’s added so much subtlety to these songs that if it weren’t for Rick Beato I never would have noticed. As for the # of percussionists, the drummer counts too so I was kinda trying to included them all while leaving room for fluctuation, I hope that makes sense. The funny thing is I had Zero interest in Slipknot when they first came out I was still headlong into Metallica & they were at one of the Ozzfests while was doing a Marine Corps Combined Arms Exercises at 29 Palms in CA & I had buddy who had a press pass & took pics of them but, I just ignored them back in 1999. It wasn’t until I had heard Duality shortly before I left for Iraq that I picked up that album Vol 3 Subliminal Verses & it, Mudvayne, Slayer & Metallica got me through the hell that was the Triangle of Death that I fell in love with Slipknot.
