This was a Christian band and they meant that God forms us from the dust and we return to the dust when we die BUT through the forgiveness and acceptance of Christ we are given NEW bodies eternally

Robby was Kansas’ violin player. His passing left a big hole in all our hearts. Rest In Peace Robby. You will be missed 😢

I've always understood this song as a meditation in 3 parts. Part 1: Despair. "Same old song...". Nothing matters, what's the point? Part 2: Lamentation. The violin represents weeping, someone crying at the futility of life and how death awaits us all. Part 3: Catharsis. "Don't hang on..." Yes, the same fate awaits us all, but that makes what we do NOW even more important. Be good, be kind. Don't get caught up in the trappings of life like material things. They all crumble to dust just like us. This song is so beautiful and timeless. Many have commented on how short it is but that is also part of its message. Life is short. I'm 50 and I've listened to this song hundreds of times over the years and it still rings true and brings tears to my eyes. That is rare in this life. How ironic that a song about nothing lasting can be so enduring?

Kansas guitarist Kerry Livgren wrote this after reading a book of Native American poetry. The line that caught his attention was, "For all we are is dust in the wind." This got him thinking about the true value of material things and the meaning of success. The band was doing well and making money, but Kerry realized that in the end, he would eventually die just like everyone else. No matter our possessions or accomplishments, we all end up back in the ground. He didn't know his music would live on and continue to touch so many people. RIP Robby Steinhardt

This song is a reminder to be humble. Because no matter who you are, how famous you are, what you do, what you make, how much money you have, how much nice stuff you have, none of that matters really because you are going to come to exactly the same fate as everyone else. You will die, and you will be forgotten. It is a sad truth but it is an unchanging one. You are no different from any other, and should not pretend to be.

I was born in 1962. I got to see all the legends come out as new. Black sabbath, kansas, pink floyd, all the legends of today. I got to smoke some good columbian gold which blows away all the weed you can buy today. It was mellow and mid buzz so you could maintain a good focus while feeling good! I feel blessed to have been born at that time. I am a veteran guitar player who was inspired by all the legends. I can kick some ass make no mistake! Been picking for over 40 yrs. I would recommend smoking a fat one before listening to any 70`s music. It is a rule of thumb.

No matter what, or how many material possessions we, and all our possessions truly are only dust in the wind, the only thing that really matters, that will never turn to dust is how much you loved, and were loved by others.
@anniem1693 жыл бұрын
Not meaningless! Our time on this planet is so short. I think the point was to figure out what matters and go at it hard. Don't let others define it for you.

Back in the day when this was hot for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived in Nebraska, so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks, CA (God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 300 miles each way. FWIW gas cost only roughly $1.00 per gallon😁 On motorcycles. Hell yeah😎 I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (Harrah's former outdoor venue) Still killin' it. "All your money won't another minute buy" 45+ years this still gets radio play on Classic Rock stations. I still have this LP./Album.

This is an environmental song, we had a big problem with this in the 70's. The EPA was created as a result of the Cleveland River catching on fire due to companies disposing chemicals and toxic waste in it. I was a 2nd grader I think when I saw this on tv. In medical school we are told the human body is made up of 4 main components the acronym for it is CHON, carbon, hydrogen,oxygen and nitrogen. So the song is correct we are all made up of Stardust or wind. However, we have one life to make our existence count. Use it wusrly

What I get from this is the reminder that like dust in the wind that's gone in a moment, our lives are fleeting, especially compared to eternity! The ? is what will we do with the time we have? God has a plan and purpose for every person on earth, but that can only be found and lived out through relationship with Him. He designed it that way, because He wants relationship with us. He's the ony one who can give our lives, our hopes and dreams, value and meaning and eternity with Him too mind-blowing to imagine! Without Him. . . . meaningless dust in the wind and eternity too horrible to fathom!

Nothing dies. Spirit is forever. The body is just a 3 dimensional vessel that we use to experience life in this dimension. There are many dimensions. The universe is filled with life. In this dimension and all the others. You are eternal. Nothing truly dies. It just goes from this to that. It is a travel to new experiences. That is why the universe exists. The spirit wants experiences. Endless and creative. It is forever.

All your money wont another minute buy....wow.
@garrymoore2161 Жыл бұрын
They say all your money wont amotherinute buy but all your money buys is futile. This also is Biblical. The wisest man was Solomon who became rich and powerful and could buy anything he thought to buy. Her is his reflection on his life: So I became great and surpassed snyone who had come before me. All the while, my wisfom remained with me. Everything that my eyes wanted I did not refuse them. I did mot withhold ky heart from any selfish pleasure...Then I turned to sll thevwork that my hands had designed and all the labor thst i had toiked yo make; and notice, all if it us vanity and chasing the wind.v There us no benefit under the sun. Talk about having everything and seeing it all as futile!

In the Bible: Vanity of vanities, all is vanity. This is not vanity as in prideful, this is vanity as in vain, useless, futile. A generation comes and a generation goes, but the earth continually remains.v The sun comes up and thevsun goes diwn and hurries to the pkace where it rises. All matters are wearisome; a man us not able to speak to them. Theveye us not sarusfied with what it sees nor the ear satisfied with what it hears. What has been is the same as what wiil be.
