@@fanofmanythings7717 there is too much credit given to this scream. Chester used fry screams, very easy to hold. The difficult part of the scream he does is because there is so much power in it and takes a lot of air support to hold the note and then to shift down an octave.

Same dude. It's been almost 18 yrs since hearing his voice and listening to the band helped me to literally get up from the floor when I physically should have been dead and seek help. And now I feel so lucky that my 14yo, while really liking LP, doesn't necessarily love them because he doesn't really relate to the lyrics the way that I absolutely did, and I hope he never does.

I don't see it as a cry for help, I mean, it is, but also, that's not why it exists. I feel that the song is a statement of "this is my reality" and an offering: "This might be your reality, do you see it here? You are not alone." Chester was aware of his demons. As someone who struggles with depression, I want to point out that the sad truth of Chester's suicide ISN'T that no one cared or that no one tried to help him. It's that he got help. That he did get medication, therapy, counseling, and numerous other support lines. Unfortunately, all those things did was slow or perhaps delay his mental deterioration. NOW- that's not to say that everyone who has Major Depression (medical term, not a denoting of scale or whatever) or even suicidal depression has to reach the same conclusion. For different people and different brains, different things work or don't work and every individual may have to try multiple routes in order to get the help and result that they need. It just so happened that with Chester, it was a prime example that sometimes money and effort can't combat the intensity of your own brain fighting against you.

So I have no idea how much I would have picked it up, but later in life I could relate to some lyrics of other types of songs dealing with quite a lot of struggles of life, such as Eminem's classic late 90's and early-mid 2000's songs that helped out to understand him, and relate to some portions of lyrical content. Depression is truly hard thing to pick up from outside, it's like a cancer you never see or wont realize you, or anyone else, has it, until it's somewhat late. When it's too late, you start to remember all the things about that person and his emotions, and you start to pick up some things that person has said thorough life when you were talking or being near that person, and realize thing or two about it all, what and why.

I mean what is the most sad to me/irritates me, is that their last album "One More Light" was shit on by people at first, but after his death people rated it good and commented on songs being like a clear "cry for help"... Really? Their songs have been revolving around his mental struggles and inner demons since the beginning! And seeminly people haven't picked up on that and were suprised to hear of his death... That, is sad imo... Such a legend, R.I.P.

So many of LINKIN PARK's songs address depression and emotional issues, you can probably say the same thing about at least a few in every album. Right after he passed, it seemed like every time I heard a song by Linkin Park it was a cry for help. Can you imagine how sad that is, every day millions of people hearing your cries for help but no one able to help in a meaningful way? Tragic.

You could apply this analysis about a "cry for help" to most of his songs, honestly. I think that's why his passing hit so many people so hard, including me. We all thought him writing about this stuff was his way of coping with his demons, because he had a terrible upbringing and ended up in some really, really dark places decades before his passing. We thought he was out the other side.

Absolutely, I have definitely been paying more attention to his lyrics since his death, like a lot of people I was a bit iffy on the One More Light album when it was released, and it wasn't high in my rotation, but playing it over and over after he's gone, the whole album feels and sounds like one big cry for help and/or saying goodbye.

Hylian Wolf Chester wrote the lyrics to his parts, Mike wrote his and did(does) a lot of the time have the song already fleshed out and then the band would come in and ad there touch and all that. I believe they are all credited as writers on all their songs and I know they did for that song and Mike and Rick Ruben produced it. Mike produced probably everything on his own by the time Chester passed. Being a songwriter can mean a person writes the music to a song which like I said Mike does...that's why he gets the producer credit and was kinda the leader in a way...and definitely makes him plenty of more money than the other guys...dude is smart as fuck....dumbass

As someone who's fought a very deep darkness, I was naturally drawn to this band growing up as it felt like someone put words to my thoughts. Even before he reached his way out, I had a feeling he was closing in on it. And for me personally, I was lucky to find my way out and still live. And I'm happy for Chester that he can finally have his peace. And to all that criticize him or his music, I challenge any and all of them to spend one hour in the hell we've gone through. One hour in the darkest parts we've had to be trapped in for years. I know they wouldn't last that long. An hour here is an eternity there. And to contain that and pretend like you're not white knuckling every second of your life, but knowing that asking for help will make everyone avoid you even more, fear you even more... That's what Chester means by "no one cares". Because... No one did. The band has a special place in my heart, as only those that have been to those deep dark places can recognize one of their own. And again, Chester... You rest, friend. You rest.

The current Mental Health System's "treatment modality" in these United States has basically turned back the hands of time & science! Now? Just warehousing & chemical restraints & all you need to do to get out is tell the White Coats that you feel much better & have no thoughts of 'harming' yourself or others! Or, your Insurance will no longer pay! 😮 I have been in such a huge level of depression for the past almost 3 years, absolutely nothing gets accomplished & I just lay on my couch & 'hide' from the world. In the words of the late great Peter Steele, Everyone I Love Is Dead. And so it goes... Peace.

@@maggierezac5820 I'm 'so sorry to hear that you've been in that awful deep pit of depression for about 3 years. My depression got worse about 3 years ago too...that was when I had been drugged and raped. The following year, someone I deeply loved took their own life after a very long struggle with severe depression. There are so many ways in which a heart can break. I don't know if you're into art and it sounds like you've tried pretty much everything that society deems to be treatment, but art therapy has been helping me. Telling my family and best friends has helped too...after I lost my loved one I'd think all the time that I wished he would have said something to me. It probably wouldn't have changed the outcome (since he had dealt with it for about 20 years already). I know my family and friends were relieved that I told them...and it's the hardest thing to do...to tell people. As for the art therapy...I've discovered that I really do need to go to those darkest places and create violent or incredibly sad pieces to help me get that shit out. A lot of people think the best thing to do is to look at the positives in our lives, but that doesn't address the underlying problem. We can't be afraid to go into that darkness and confront it. It's easier to see how amazing small blessings are after seeing that darkness. I really hope that you can find something that helps you climb out of that hole. It's one helluva process and I"m still in the middle of it, but I'm realizing that I owe it to myself to try. I think about it like this...if I were to see a girl exactly like me...what would I want to do to help her?? Then I try to apply that stuff to myself. It's too difficult to just think "how do I help myself" when you don't like yourself. So to sorta look at myself from an outsiders point of view has been helpful. Sending you lots of love girl!

I’ve dealt with depression as a side effect of anxiety that manifests itself in uncontrollable outbursts of anger and occasional panic attacks. I throw shit, break shit, and have had to isolate myself at times to keep from beating loved ones senseless for no reason. Meds and therapy have done absolute wonders for me, but the shittiest part of these problems is that what works for me doesn’t work for everyone else. If you deal with these kinds of things, no one can force you to talk to people and talking really doesn’t do shit until you can do it on your own terms. All I can say is when you are ready, find a therapist, a family member, friend, a complete stranger, whoever you feel comfortable talking to, and just start talking. The weight coming off of your shoulders will be one of the best things you will experience.

Exactly. Treatment is never the same with any mental illness. People enjoy acting like it is, like drugging someone to the point of minor functioning is the solution for everyone. Some people react far worse to medication than others. Others get addicted, or it can be what causes them to take harsher action. I'm glad that medication works for you @toyotaecw. But you're right. True depression isn't an emotion. It's a state of mind. And the best people to talk to aren't therapists, but usually someone who actually understands, from experience. Sharing suffering eases it more than anything else. It's such a lonely, crushing "feeling". Even sharing it here helps, if only a little and if only temporarily. All the best to you @Linzombie06 @toyotaecw @Maggie Rezac if it means anything. Life can be rough enough without this shit.

Chester once gave the most accurate description I've ever heard of depression. He described it as his own head being "a bad neighbourhood where [he] shouldn't be left alone." I suffer with serious depression myself, and that description just hit home so hard. I can be with other people and be distracted and I'm the happiest, most outgoing guy in the room, but leave me alone with my thoughts and things get very dark, very quickly.

I am a vocalist, been growling and screaming since my junior year of high school. I have tried since this song was released to replicate that scream. The way he drops octaves isn't him running out of breath, im sure he could've held that for longer. It's an intense fucking scream and the last time i tried it (37 takes mind you) i could barely talk the rest of the day. I can hold it for roughly 12 of the 18 seconds. He was an absolute god at vocals, and I legit cried the day he passed. I got into vocals because of Chester Bennington. But i jam the fuck out of this song. I have been in pretty rough points in my life (even being homeless sleeping at the junior college at night before class the next day) and to put on a pair of studio headphones and release all that tension and pain in that monster fucking scream saved my life more than I care to admit. That was me pushing my body and my craft to points that was unhealthy at times but felt so good doing.

Linkin Park: One More Light is definitely required. It's the complete polar opposite of this musically, but it might well leave you in a puddle of tears. Does me. 😢 One of Chester's last songs before he passed. Heartbreaking, dood. Devastating. (There is a video, too, that just hits you very hard. Did me.)

one more light contains good lyrics but not good melody compare to songs such as in the end, Pushing me away etc...

As someone who dealt with depression and suicidal thoughts.. i know what people feel like, and i remember listening to this song back in the day and it actually helped, cause someone vocalized what i felt. very few people realize depression is not sadness.. at least not JUST.. its happiness, anger, boredom, sadness, loneliness, anxiety, mood swings ,fear, hostility, neediness, exhaustion, feeling helpless and alone, while also conversely wanting to distance and isolate yourself, self pity , self hatred, bouts positivity and negativity all bound together erratically in an emotional roller-coaster that you don't understand. So how could you expect your loved ones to understand? .. but they don't have to understand... trust me.. maybe not your family, maybe a friend, or just a random Hefnerd! ..with time and effort you can get past it.. it never truly leaves you completely, but you can overcome it, and you can live your life to the fullest!

Actually, Chester passed away in 2017. This song was written in 2007. So, we can only guess if that is cry for help or not. But in your defense, I want to say that i experienced similar feelings while listening to their old songs after his death. Cuz Linkin Park had some lyrics that we can consider like "cry for help" even before: 2001 - Crawling, 2003 - Easier To Run. For me it sounds like before, he was expressing his feelings and pain in singing, screaming... But in 2017 he was heartbroken with Chris Cornell (his good friend) death (suicide too), and Chester was really dipressed. So you can hear like he`s really crying for help in their new album "One More Light". And maybe he can not hold all this pain inside him. I was at their last show in Birmigham in 2017, July 6, i mean, he was still doing great those screams, but he kinda missed his passion on that screams. Seems like he was more focused on new songs. But there also is a chance, that he was dipressed all that time, since 2001, but noone noticed this... It`s only my opinion btw, don`t blame, correct me if i`m wrong. (Probably noone gonna even read this whole comment). SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH! RIP Chester

Im 21 and im a huge fan since I was 6 years old and he also stated one time even before minutes to midnight came out that "breaking the habit" was his hardest song. It was kinda a scream for help already and pretty much confirmed just wanted to say that so ppl don't soak up the wrong information. Rip Chester my childhood idol :( Went to a concert with my parents when minutes to midnight came out I'm so glad I was able to see him live before he passed ...
