They are British,, they were a part of "the British Invasion" of the 60s along with the Beatles and others. This was back when tv had just gone color....it was called the color transition, the first full color tv season(all networks) that started in the fall of 1966(66-67 season) The bass player is Chas Chandler. He "discovered" Jimmy James in mid 1966-67 in a night club in Greenwich Village, NY. He convinced him to use his real name and The Jimi Hendrix Experience was born. He took him to England and the rest is Rock and Roll history....🤟😎

This film was n't made for TV it was made for cinema release and was a compilation of several different British Invasion bands. The quality is so good because it was on film, not video tape. It was made in 1964 and that was the year this reach no 1 in America.

Early 60's, it was the style to wear matching clothes-haven't you heard of the British Invasion? A lot of people think having your pants hanging down to the crack of doom looks funny too. The clothes aren't important, the talent is. Eric Burdon had an amazing voice (I believe he was only 23 at this time) and the musicians were incredible. So many of the 60's and especially the 70's talent were singer/songwriters who wrote "story songs". Everyone could sing, write songs, most played at least one instrument. So much pure talent.

I second "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place." Bruce Springsteen isn't a hip-hop artist (though there is a hip-hop version of "Born In The USA"), but he once said that every song he's ever written can be traced back to The Animals' "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place." Hard to imagine two such great soul/blues singers as Burdon and Steve Winwood hitting the scene within months of each other.

I love that song and how it drags you into that intense dark story and atmosphere. The music kind of spirals and keeps turning and turning especially the keyboard. Eric Burdon has such a unique voice. Very straight, no vibratos no ornaments but kind of edgy. The smiling guy, Hilton Valentine, is shredding his guitar like martial arts. They were all in their early 20s and yet so accomplished musicians and clear in what they wanted to bring accross. Absolute masterpiece-still totday. I'm glad you brought it up.

Dude, since you been jammin these oldies along with Bring Me The Horizon and Linkin Park recently. I got some suggestions. I love The Beatles. I’m sure you heard some Beatles, but some of their deep cuts are so good.

Eric Burdon just looks like an absolute badass. He could pull this look off in 2020.

There's a major story behind this song. One that is very much worth looking into. Versions of this song dates back to the early 1900's. This version was recorded in one take. Seriously though, there's a lot of history to this song.

You hit the nail on the head when you called this song "folksy". It is, in fact, an old folk song right out of Appalachia. I believe the earliest known recordings of this song date back as far as the 1930s, and it was covered by a number of prominent American folk singers in the decades that followed, including Andy Griffith, Nina Simone, Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan. The Animals were the first to turn it into a rock and roll song, and it is one of, if not the very first American folk song ever to be redone as a rock and roll song. It held another important first, as well, in that it was the first song by a British rock group to reach number one on the U.S. pop charts after the Beatles, making the Animals arguably the second band in the "British invasion". I will second the suggestion made by some other posters that you should give a listen to Eric Burdon doing "Spill the Wine" with the band War. It is from a few years later and is more of a psychedelic rock song, and it is a great tune that you will really get a kick out of.
