I have bilateral hip dysplasia. Just diagnosed at 47 yrs old. My MRI showed some tears in ligaments, but not the labrum. My surgeon didn't believe the MRI and said that I most likely had labrum tears on both sides due to my pain. Had right arthroscopic labrum tear repair, femoralplasty and ligament repair surgery in Feb. First 8-9 weeks went really smoothly, but then I've had some setbacks since then and am discovering that it's really a 6 month recovery. Not been easy. Glad I did the surgery still though. My pain is much better, but I still have to do the left side next.

OMG!!! Thanks so much for this video! I have had this minor pain in my inner groin ever since high school but it never bothered me enough (not even during my eleven years in the military) to have it checked out--until a couple of years ago (I'm +50 now). I am (or was before last year) very active with sports, dancing, yoga, biking, distance walking and calisthenics. Last year, I could hardly walk so I finally got it examined medically. Turns out that I have had a labral tear for some decades now. I have been both in physical therapy and using a cane for the last year. Progress is extremely slow and aggravating the injury is really easy. My PT team and I are trying to avoid any surgery. However, the healing IS taking place! Just wanted to say that I appreciate you guys making this knowledge available for all!

Thanks for great info and exercises. Magnetic Resonance Arthrogram , not Angiogram. Also, as LMT having worked in PT settings and former dancer, it is crucial that exercises are done with as perfect alignment/posture as possible so as to reduce asymmetry in body and in pelvis that could be causing hip issues, and that they are executed at a moderate and even pace so as not to create more tension in muscles. Thanks for your videos!

As I understand with hip labrum tear you have to be careful and really should avoid any lunging or side lunging and only partial squats at most or could aggravate - worsen injury.

I have bilateral hip pain . Bilateral means both sides in case anyone is wondering . I’m still waiting to see what my doctor is going to say but a small piece of advice would be to keep working on it , the last thing you want to do is leave it untreated . Try stretching and foam rolling to get a little bit of relief and then try some strengthening exercises

I had a similar surgery, hip labrum tear repair (debride, clean and suture) shave bone and IT Band release. 3 years ago. I went through a very long process. Most days I am glad I did it. I am not 100% "fixed" or better but I think I did the right thing. It's different now and hard to describe but the important thing to remember, at least in my opinion, is to keep doing your strengthening(w/PT). Whether you decide on surgery or not it's a big part of life after the tear. IMHO. My actual tear was the worst pain!

Thanks for the great exercises, I was just accessed for this and was told they really shy away from surgery because it doesn’t really heal well, especially if you are over 30. Nice way to tell me since I’m 50. Steroid shot could be possible if the pain is too much. All the more reason to rehab this injury at home (COVID) or with a PT. Will be trying all of these to help with the uncomfortable hip pain. thanks again.

I've have a labral tear in my left hip for almost 5 years now.. due to my husband's death I had to postpone everything. Now that I'm getting my life somewhat on track I'm going to have the surgery also because my right hip is now doing the same thing. I didnt know what was causing my hip to pop out .. my parents always thought I was double jointed because my left hip would pop out in my butt.. I found out this week that both my hips were deformed. The ball is more of a triangle and the sockets are both too shallow to hold the ball in place causing my hip to pop and hip giving out on me.. the pain is jolting when it happens. I have good days and then I have really bad days. I dont know what causes some to be worse then others as far as why my ball pops out. Looking for to some physical therapy and then surgery. I will definitely be following you guys. And tips or tricks are much welcomed. Thanks guys !!

I've been searching for whatever my problem has been since about March, now. I think this is it. Back in March, when COVID was really firing up, I would have to dodge people outside who were not bothered to wear masks or keep social distancing while I was out running. One time I landed hard on my left leg. I even remember thinking when it happened, "Oooh, this is gonna sting later!"....and it did! I can walk, but I find that after running, I have some pretty gnarly soreness around the back of that hip socket area. Female, here, so I guess what you've said here follows. It's very slowly getting better, thankfully, but it's still sore after I run. I've slowed down my running schedule and started doing gentle yoga for hip and lower back pain, and it seems to incorporate a lot of the stretching you're indicating here, so hopefully whatever injury I might've caused will heal up soon. I really hope to be able to get back to running on my full schedule by the time the weather cools off! Thank so much for bringing me closer to identifying the problem!

So, you broke your labrum trying to avoid people outside breathing fresh air because you're nuts? 10 years from now, when that hip really gets bad-and it will, you can go home and look at the fool in the mirror so you know who to blame for 100% of your trouble. P.S. if masks actually stoped the plandemic then they would have stopped actually stopped the plandemic. But they don't work at all and we know that now for a fact.

By no means do I know the technical terms or biology behind it, but these are exercises to build up the stabilizing muscles surrounding the tear. It'll help strengthen the hips, which should relieve pain or inflammation. Core stabilizing exercises are great, too.

Earlier in the video (min 2:30 - 2:35) it was mentioned that repeated hip abduction could be a cause for a labral tear, yet in the exercises hip abduction was included. Can you explain?
@kaufmanat1
@kaufmanat1 5 жыл бұрын
@Elizabeth Shutty the exercise they demonstrate are safe. At 2:30 he articulates its a repetitive use injury, so frequently repeatedly taking a hip to end range abduction could cause injury. The exercise shown involves active contraction of the hip abductors for strengthening, will not cause a labral tear. Unless you have some crazy form and are doing it a hundred times a day... That could injure it.

Anyway it showed I have labral tears in both hips. Doctor done arthroscopic surgery on one hip ,went in to clean it up as the doctor called it. Instead of going ahead and repairing the damage. So now guess what? I've got to have the surgery to repair now. I went through all of that the arthroscopic surgery for nothing,stayed on crutches for 2-3 months,physical therapy for nothing. Only to now like I said having to have the actual surgery to repair the damage now.

My MRI after 3 months of pain, no accident, shows labram small tear, left hip joint is slightly out of the socket and a small muscle tear. He used the word deformity about the socket. This was over the phone by my ortho surgeon. I am in therapy completed 2 weeks. Pain started in the groin, moved to thigh on outside above let knee and now it is in my calf. Trying to consult another recommended hip ortho first. The pain is worst in the latter morning hours when I am trying to stay asleep. I mean it's bad and I am taking meloxicam. I also have Lipedema following Cushing's disease 17 years ago. This month I go out of state to see a Lipdema plastic surgeon about legs, trunk and stomach. This could not happen at a worse time.

I have so much pain on my left leg and it happened after I jumped for 8 hours straight. At first it was sore now I can’t walk or apply any pressure on my left leg it’s too painful. *2020 Update: should’ve said something long time ago, but never too late. I recovered in 2 weeks. The stretching exercises worked, but I also did my own leg workouts. I would do leg lifts while laying on bed. It hurt but not like a really bad hurt. I had a feeling that if I can workout the area it would recover quick. You guys have to avoid walking, if you must then I suggest you use crutches or some support that helps you stay up or walk even if your getting milk or going to the bathroom. Also change in your bed and sit on your bath tube. You have any questions I’ll try my best to answer!

Stormy Water Films I basically did my own physical therapy. I recovered in 2 weeks would’ve been 1 week, but I started walking and after that 3 hour walk the muscle tore and had to wait another week to recover the tissue. I suggest you do leg workouts but using your own body weight, and use crutches so that your groin area doesn’t hurt and leg. Crutches help so you don’t put too much pressure and help your body recover faster. Most importantly try not to walk it will take longer to recover. Oh and by leg workouts I mean like lift your leg side ways to help. If you can’t lift stretch but don’t over stretch. Once your able to lift your legs on your own while laying in bed then everyday do some. Also I didn’t use any pain killers went all natural and used the pain to make me stronger lol. Pain made me think twice about recovering quicker.

I have gone to a massage therapist and a chiropractor for relief, but I am still in pain. I am trying yoga now with hopes this will help. I have subscribed to your videos so I get them all.

If you are still having trouble from pain, search for DDP Yoga or DDPY on KZbin. Bob and Brad, and DDPY have helped me tremendously with my own pain. Had I found Bob and Brad sooner, I could've saved myself from unneeded surgery (shoulder impingement). Also MoveU is a great channel as well. They've helped me with my hip dysplasia and labrum tear of the hip, among other things.

After decades of pain in my groin and left hip, PT, chiropractic adjustments, and essential oils for pain instead of Rx since NSAIDs shutdown my kidneys when I was 25, I'm scheduled for Labral Tear Repair surgery in 4 days. 🙏🏼 this also helps to stabilize my wonky, instable low back allowing my glutes to be used without pain with simply walking. I only can 🤔 what my life would've been like had this been properly diagnosed years ago.

Can you just "strain" it? I was moving something heavy, trying to scoot a box and being so careful. I felt a strain, pain but it somewhat subsided until I woke up the next day. It hurt to put pressure on my right leg. I'm using crutches. It doesn't hurt so bad with rest, but I dread getting up. Even maneuvering from the seated or laying position is painful. And my pain is where your patient's is. More toward the back and side of the joint, very deep. Your exercising makes me hurt! I can't imagine right now ☹️

@MaryJoSminkey
@MaryJoSminkey 5 жыл бұрын
They often go together... impingement in the hip is often what causes a labral tear. Usually an impingement issue will show on an xray but generally an MRI is needed to get a fuller picture as to what is going on. Insurance generally will only approve one if conservative treatment like PT doesn't work, and it is fairly common for people to show a tear on an MRI but not have symptoms.

I have had a labral tear since June, and it's taken all this time to get tested and diagnosed with the tear so that we can start PT for it. The problem I'm having is that the more time that has gone by since June, the more pain I've been in. I'm on my almost 3rd night of hardly any sleep (and over the months I've experienced nights of no sleep or little sleep from pain) and I'm desperate for relief. What could be done at home to help relieve pain when laying in bed so I can at least get some rest at night? At least until I can start PT and go from there.

I’ve taken up walking and get moderate pain the following hours-to-day after. It reminds me of how my knee is now, where it’s healed improperly and I’m dealing with permanent issues. Hey Bob & Brad. First of all, thank you for all the information and pain solutions you guys providing to us, i am really appreciating it :-) But i do have a problem, i hope you can help me to fix. Whenever i do a bench press with dumbbells, i cant perform it with a normal grip, because it starts to really hurt i think in my right humerus, whenever i go near to parallel. But the pain is reduced when i performing the press with a neutral grip. There is no problems with my left side, but i cant keep performing the exercise with a neutral grip, how can i be able to bench press with my right shoulder, without any pain? i usually warm up with some dynamic streches, i am really determined when it comes to streching, and i am careful of what im doing. I had this problem for over 1 year now, and nothing has changed. My form on the bench press is spot on, i remember to retract my scapular, i have been body building for 3 years, so i have some experience. I really hope you can help me with my problem, that would make me really happy :-) (sorry for my bad english, i tried my best without any translation tools) Best Regards, and god bless you two.

I walk 5 miles+ per day (not all at once) and recently (because of the heat in AZ) bought a treadmill that I'm doing my walking on. I started playing pickle ball on the weekends too. About 2 weeks ago, I was on the treadmill walking about 3.4 mph and felt a burning sensation in the groin area but not upper thigh. After looking at your videos, it seems more like the symptoms in this video. I'm wondering if you would recommend not using the treadmill or walking long distances while healing. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Hey Ken good question. The answer is no, you can't tell the difference. SI joint pain, tight psoas muscle, adductor strain can all mimic a labral tear. That's why so many people have the labral repair and are still have groin after recovery.

I have dealt with a hip labral tear for about ten years now. It seems a problem when I have to walk and be on my feet for long periods. Think airport terminals, museums, flea markets, hard surfaces. I get pain only under this sort of activity. 3hip surgeons have 3 different opinions! One for surgery, one against, and one in the middle! It’s certainly a lifestyle changing injury. Proper exercise helps, and a PT that understands this injury, and to be disciplined and follow the physical therapy. I’ve been doing acupuncture, electrical stimulation, and massage-including pulling the leg to move the fascia around, the massage therapist does this. I’ve been going once a week now for 5 months, and I’ve improved, but not new. It’s easy to let this leg get weak, and you simply can’t let that happen. I also will wear braces around the higher thigh when under heavy activity. Most are my own creation.
