I have listened to nearly everyone on KZbin talking about hip issues...many contradicting each other... and Dr David is THE BEST. I couldn't sleep for the pain and struggled with my hip. Now, it's brilliant. I am about 90% of the way to recovery. So grateful to Dr David.

Dear Dr David, you said we should get obsessed with glute squeezes...you are so right!! I have been struggling with severe hip pain since an awful fall 5 months ago. It took a long time to figure out precisely what was wrong, but now I'm pretty sure I'm suffering from greater trochanteric bursitis and gluteal tendinopathy. Since I started doing butt squeezes every hour and added hand massage to my gluteus medius and gluteus minimus, my pain is almost gone. I am so grateful!! I'm also following your other videos and appreciate all you do for us. Greetings from South Africa.

And what do you think of his suggestion that the problem with arthritic knees is overpowering quads? I'm sure you'll be well aware that many people with arthritic knees actually have quad atrophy (especially of vmo). Also, his claim, in one of his vids, that leg raises are bad because they cause "compressive force" sounds nonsensical to me. They are an open chain exercise which result in minimal compressive force. Weight bearing activities like standing, walking and running, all provide much more compressive force on the knee joint than lying or seated leg raises. In short, yes balance issues, inactive glutes etc, are common problems, and they can result in problem hips and knees over time, but he seems to make some wild claims and generalisations.

We’re sorry you’ve been struggling with hip issues-many people don’t realize how challenging it can be unless they’ve been through it themselves. It’s great to hear you’re starting the exercises! Start with one or two movements at a time, focusing on good form and control. You can do them a few times throughout the day, aiming for consistency rather than intensity. Listen to your body, and if something feels good, keep going! Wishing you all the best on your journey to recovery!

I have been hypothyroid for 20+ years (taking both Levothyroxine and Liothyronine) and that caused weakening of my muscles (especially the leg an butt muscles) even before I had a hip arthritis that caused serious strength problems in trying to get up if I kneeled or squatted on the floor. I am carrying more weight than I should, but getting rid of it with a messed-up thyroid is nigh on impossible, and I guess that is not helping either. I have tried to exercise the glutes in isolation but am finding that extremely hard too. I would love to tell my surgeon he can keep his hip replacement, but do you have any special advice for someone like me?

I’m interested in your paid program, but before joining, I would like to know if the program assumes that everyone has the same issue-weak glute muscles. I’m asking because I don’t believe this is my main problem. I’ve been strength training regularly for the past two years (five times a week) and have also been active in other ways. I’m 49, born with hip dysplasia (never treated), and currently in the 3rd stage of hip arthritis. If someone reading who has already joined this program could answer, would be really thankful as well.

PRP & Stim cells are a waste... PT gave me exercises but NEVER had me incorporate my glutes. After adding the glute squeezes to Everything has helped immensely but will not grow me hip sockets that genetically never fully formed, angles >20+ having hyper extended both legs tearing out both hips. Chiro keeps putting in my hips into their joints, they don't stay there. There ARE times surgery is required... I made it 60+ years but these torn labrums and more are constantly getting reinjured. Being so flexible can be a bad thing =bilateral hip dysplasia. My glutes & body is as ready as ever...miss my horses.

@@dennistyler9852 For me anecdotal or food evidence is not sufficient given human bias and my natural skepticism. That is not to say it doesn't work or make sense--I've personally kept an open mind and followed his advice. I've also seen other MDs on KZbin saying that evidence shows cartilage can regrow naturally. Additionally, I like the guy from Upright Health who similarly focuses on muscle imbalance and strengthening. He often examines and criticizes studies relating to FAI and hip replacement surgeries, and also complains about doctors that make no attempt to address underlying muscle weakness and imbalances before pushing patients toward hip replacement and other surgeries.

I find it all really hard to believe this is effective for all. I was really active and had good muscles but bit by bit my hip joints actually fused and no amount of exercise is going to fix that. I would have been in a wheelchair if I hadn't had 2 hip replacements. And now there is nothing I can't do. I am 72 and I feel 30. I just think that most of these people have not got severe arthritis. It's nothing to fear if you have a good surgeon. I had 100% success for both hips. I don't weigh much. It's really important to keep slim.
