QUESTION: How do your hips feel after trying these tips? I'd love to hear about it!
@carmenbugeja87228 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing, I have hip bursatis in my right hip and an herniated disc and sciatica in my left leg, I've used a pillow under my legs but still pain through sciatica, would of been good if I don't have a bulged disk then I can sleep on the left. I have put a pillow under my legs when I sleep on my back with the sciatica.

Hey Yaacov, sorry about your hip.. Hopefully the tips in the video help! Also possibly doing some gluteus medius and maximus exercises may help fix it too.

What if both sides hurt

Thank you for something so very simple to try. I'm going to use a thick pillow tonight, and I'll see if it works.

Unfortunately can't sleep on the other side, will try the 2 pillows.

I put your recommendation to sleep with two pillows between my legs into practice a month ago or so, and it made a big difference!! For me, it was an 80% solution that worked immediately. I still can't sleep on that side all night, or my hip would bother me. But, when I rotate between sides, the discomfort in my hip is greatly minimalized by the two pillows between my legs, and I can fall asleep quickly. That's all I need!! Thank you!!! Very much appreciated!!!

Hey Joseph Ryan! I’m so glad it helped! Sometimes something as simple as that makes a big difference

I have pain on the side that I don’t sleep on. A pillow makes it hurt more. I have tingling sensation around the hip and buttocks.
@thedurablebody10 ай бұрын
Hey Claire, it could possibly be coming from your back. If it is, lying on your side with a pillow underneath your ribs to make your spine more aligned might help. Lying on the other side might help too. Or lying on your back with a pillow or two under your knees might help.

I will try this. My lateral hip pain ironically doesn’t occur with walking but mostly with when I’m sitting in my car seat for awhile. I have to wonder if it’s trochanter bursitis or hip tendinitis? What is the difference? How can I know. Palpating lateral and anterior aspects produces pain that strangely starts to disparate the longer I massage area with knuckle.

Hey Scott! Trochanteric bursitis is the inflammation of the bursa which is a fluid filled sac on top of that bony bump on the side of your hip. Tendinitis is the inflammation of the tendon of a muscle. If it’s gluteus medius tendinitis, it would also hurt on the side of the hip. Gluteus medius tendinitis is usually associated with bursitis, which is why I think they’re starting to call it greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Trying to press on it will likely aggravate it, so massaging it is not recommended. The way I help patients get better is by having them sleep like this and then strengthening the gluteus medius muscles. Hope this info is helpful!

what about if it's my ankle that hurts from side sleeping?
@thedurablebody Жыл бұрын
Hey Katherine! That’s interesting. Maybe a full body pillow that would support your entire leg might help

...even using a pillow doesn't seem to help , and 2 pillows not an option. Makes it feel worse. I wake up EVERY DAY in pain ,just from not having slept well.

Hey @texassstardust6010! Sorry to hear about your hip. Another possibility is that it could be coming from your back. But I couldn't say for sure. Probably best to see a doctor and/or physical therapist to get the more accurate personalized guidance.

@thedurablebody thank you for your reply...and yes, it was figured out that it is coming from an area in my back, which is getting better, just a process. It was suggested that I use a pillow under my knees, sleep on my back... and that is helping. Also using a moist heat heating pad. :) Also,I realized that I didn't have a lot of pain when I was using a Heated Mattress Pad, despite 3 injuries to the same side ( the right side ) of my body... so I'll be also be going back to using that . Thank you again for taking the time to reply.

Hi Dev! How to sleep after a hip replacement? If it’s fairly recent, then probably on your back and ask your surgeon or physical therapist. If it’s been a long time since the surgery, then it may be ok to sleep on your side but definitely with a pillow or two between your legs like the video shows. Hope that helps!
