I had a total left hip replacement Feb. 7th 2022. I chose to have the anterior approach. Best choice and I have a fantastic Dr. I had therapy at home. Help from family. This is a good video. Anyone needing this surgery, please educate yourself on this very important matter.

I am a 76 year old male recovering from my second hip replacement. Unless there is a medical reason that would preclude this suggestion, find a surgeon who uses the anterior approach. From my perspective, the recovery is much faster. I am up and walking without support and my second hip was done exactly two weeks ago. I am in Oregon, not too far from Eugene. Solcum is the ONLY place I would go for ortho surgery; those guys and gals are magicians.

Nothing like the care (or rather lack of) I had at Leicester General Hospital). The hip was done in 2013 - excellent care even though on a very crowded old ward. Then I went in again for the other hip in 2017. Very disappointed in the care I was given. No physio was offered. Had a phone call when I got home. I was told that a physio would be in touch - no one phoned. I wish I could have gone to Harrogate.

9 days out of hospital, no district nurses to take care of wound. was so difficult to get a health care package (just once a day as opposed to my ward patients) as Sister on the ward assumed that just because I was walking on crutches it meant I was ok for all my health needs when I got home. However had to fight to get a health care package finally it was escalated to managers by the head OT. Still waiting for physio input so until I saw this video I wasn't sure as to what I should and shouldn't do. The surgeons and consultant have been brilliant. Postcode lottery means that if I'm not living in BHR then I should be starved of my healthcare needs. Epping Forest is worst for health care recovery. Whilst pre op I was told I'd get everything I would need but I went home to nothing. Received no post operative call to even see how I've been.

The truth about hip arthroplasty. It’s painful AF! I’m three weeks post op and still in considerable pain. I was physically strong going into the procedure. But it was so excruciatingly painful that I had to spend two nights in hospital. Because my pain was poorly managed initially, it has made recovery slower. I’m not on any timeline for when I will feel less pain. My mobility has improved greatly. Just trying to be honest about the surgery itself. Most stuff online regarding THR, KZbin included, stated that the procedure was uncomfortable. Folks be tossing their walker/cane to the curb after several days. AYKM!? Clothes can cause discomfort. Sawing off a femur head and pounding the femoral component into the femur is beyond uncomfortable! I’ve had numerous painful surgeries. None comes close to this extremely vigorous ortho procedure. Be prepared and have lots of support. ✌

I used paracetamol regularly for first few weeks. I was walking without any aids in a month , now two months on I’m child minding and working again. The only discomfort I have is in the scar area. I was offered morphine post surgery but I refused it as didn’t need it. I’m nine years post femur break and four years post patella break.. THR was a doddle by comparison . I needed this surgery as I had a serious accident, fall backwards downstairs

@@aprilapril2 I think people’s pain threshold differs a lot. Some people have quite high pain thresholds and some not so high, everybody’s pain tolerance is different. So far I’ve tolerated 3 childbirths, 2 with no painkillers, my appendix removed, a hysterectomy (a very painful operation) and a broken foot (agony). I’m hoping I can tolerate my upcoming hip replacement ok. What do you think?

@mypointofview1111
@mypointofview1111 3 жыл бұрын
Its normal not to shower or bath straight after an operation, the wound needs to be given time to heal. If you've had stitches or staples they could tear through wet skin, so it's a good idea to allow the skin to "knit" together. If you have problems with wound healing or weeping you should allow longer until the wound has closed up completely

I was given a raised toilet seat that goes over my toilet bowl that has handles. I found that if I scoot forward and twist ONLY MY UPPER BODY (crucial as you mustn't twist your lower body) you can reach back to clean yourself perfectly adequately. The raised toilet seat is important as it gives you the height you need to do this comfortably. Ask your surgeon to organise this for you

I am on day 19 post op posterior approach left hip surgery. Oxycodone caused severe gastro problems so I discontinued. Used Xtra Strength Tylenol. This was not enough to eliminate my pain. Today is the first day that I feel my pain level is under control and I have a better state of mind. I am concerned that my operated leg feels longer than my right leg causing a limp. I start PT soon and I hope it will resolve itself. Hang in there. A day at a time.

The recovery, at least for myself, was not as rapid as I hear about in most videos. I’m 62 and in excellent shape, but had severe thigh pain and swelling up til the 3 month. Then after that it seemed to get better almost overnight. 4 months out now, and the leg is probably 85-90% with no pain.
