OK, an UX recommendation to anyone making any kind of adapter. It just has to work in _any order whatsoever_ ‒ activation, connecting on either side, etc. There just has to be no „You did it in the wrong order“ thing for a user. Well, it also _has to work_.

@@charlesh9902 I'm not entirely sure… well, I mean, there was really more thought given to the design than the practicality of the car. But I wonder how much of this is due to different expectations, cultural differences, etc. I suspect a prescribed order of doing things is what makes a Chinese person comfortable, that doing it out of order would feel wrong, etc. While in the Western culture one doesn't expect to have to learn some order of things, why bother. In China there are these tea rituals with certain level of seriousness… in the west part of the world, we have tea bags and don't even think about what it takes to brew a cup of tea…

We have a lot of these cars imported from China in Ukraine with GB/T ports. So we had different adapters to CCS2 and Chademo from different manufactures and there are 100+ stations with GB/T connectors, most of them are 80 kW or higher. But still we have a lot of issues with these cars as each new car manufacture is a pain. There specific adapters for Volkswagen and there would be specific adapters for Zeekr. People buy these cars because they are way cheaper than in Europe but I see no point to buy these cars in Europe for that price. CCS2 port is a way better

CCS2 has also a lot of issues. Very often you must lift up the plug. Otherwise the 2 signal contacts, located above, are not inserted. CCS1 had so many issues, that it's kicked out off America in 2025 and replaced by the Tesla plug. So the best way is to switch completely to GB/T chargers, like Ukraine does it right.

Hi Bjørn, I tested this car the model Z 11.01.24. I think the car was fun driving, but there was too much of the bing-bong sounds for different warning. I did not test the lane keeping assist because i drove it around Hellerud area to see how the handling was. The same roads that you earlier tested different car headlights. I appreciate that you tested the charging solution because I was a little bit sceptic that you had to use the adapter for charging - that it did not come with the CCS connector installed. I have not seen other car test site done this. Operating the car was a bit to depended upon using the screen/display. Keep up the good work 👍

Excellent review with humour, using and getting the charger adapter to work and all the variations is hilarious. I also like the look of the car, if they could just take all the lights away from the doors, it would look better and also maybe cost less, who needs lights on doors (more to go wrong). Driving a video game is a great description. If this car works and if they can fix the charging, it has good range. If again the EV computer readout is no lying about the battery charge capacity and distance. Very funny, but also very thorough and informative.

12:25 Actually it DOES matter what CPO you use for Hyperchargers. EnBW in Germany has a completely different software for the Hyperchargers, they show charging curve, have a way nicer UI and also other transaction system. I guess they may also have something different for communcations in place. As fasr as I know it's the only network with a different UI and software. You might want to visit one of the many EnBW chargers in Germany next time you are there (it's the largest charging network here anyway).

@user-jh6vt8vx4v Europeans like cars that have the ability to take corners fast. Also, it's an European thing cars should have a bit of calmness on board instead of providing every function with a silly tone. Especially when those tones are all the same. Last, but not least, the GB/T standard might be a big thing in China (except Hong Kong) and Russia, CCS2 and the Tesla standard are big thing outside of those two countries. And the EU has no intentions of giving in. The grid is getting maxed out here due to EV charging and renewable energy production. So those EVs need to have the capability to listen to the energy grid and back off a bit when the demand of charging is too high for the energy grid. Some municipalities not caring about individual battery degradation think they can abuse this opportunity to drain the car batteries when the grid is down (like with Chademo), but I doubt that's going to happen with enough backlash against it. There are 2 developments I'm going to monitor regarding charging standards: 1. ChaoJi-1, the Chinese-Japanese standard replacing Chademo and GB/T. I see no improvements in CCS2. I see the problems regarding Batterygate only getting worse and the 2025 V2X option is only going to make things worse. So I won't be surprised if people around the globe are going to switch to the Chinese-Japanese standard. The Americans continue with their own NACS (Tesla standard). 2. The rist of theft of charging cables. The biggest enemy of EVs is behavior is the greed of other people. Energy providers draining the Battery when the electricity is cheap for them so they can resell it to us again when it's expensive. However, when the copper price is going to increase, copper thieves are going to cut wires more. Apparently, it's ridiculously easy to cut those wires with a big construction site cutter. So this can either lead to people giving up on the war against ICE, or they're going to switch to options that's not having this issue like Renault's/NIO's battery swapp stations or fuel cell technology with hydrogen or with another fuel.

I use this adapter to use CCS to charge via GBT. My way (has always worked): 1. Turn on the adapter and wait for continuous blinking (slow blink), 2. Connect it to the car, 3. Start the charging session, 4. Connect the CCS to the adapter. Some issues: when the internal battery is depleted, the led will only blink once. In this case, the USB connection can be used to supply power from an external power bank. BTW: the only reason to consider this adapter if the price is right (I have a Chinese market i3 in the UAE…)

This adapter problem is what worries me about the CCS Chademo converter; the manufacturer has only used a test rig, not a real car - and it took the intervention of several buyers to mod it to get it working with their Nissan Leafs. I suspect the same short cuts here; most of the Chinese EV companies are losing money hand over fist - and are going to fail over the next 12-24 months; so they are cost cutting vigorously, and it shows. Hm. Selling an EV in EU without native CCS, seems to be a bad bargain. I'm afraid HiFi will be among those brands with a lot of fun features but not capable of creating an overall seamless and coherent experience for the customer. As for VinFast for example. But, let's see

I wonder if it is even legal. AFAIK CCS2 is required for homologation. Is the HiFi homologated yet? Maybe the car in the video has a special exemption for testing

Maybe you have to charge the adapter through the USB plug, perhaps the reason it's not working it's because the cell is running out of charge, because I see it's blinking red all the time and it needs to be fully charged for some chargers? Just a question/suggestion. I'm a noob.
@LittleSpot

good idea. Connect the CCS to the charger and one cable to the usb to drive the 5V for the adapter. 🤣 It's so convenient
@AliusScitmelius

I think that the usb is for charge adapter internal battery if the adapter is unused longer periods and the battery inside of it is empty. It is possible use usb for debugging when developing software for it. That adapters looks quite similar than CCS2 to Chademo adapter.

The sounds don't appeal to the generation who's dying out now, but i'd imagine the kids will love it when they are in their adult years since they are so used to the touch, gacha, gaming interface. I'm expecting it to be widely popular in 10-15 years. Maybe there will be Ads on the door panel or a minigame to play to open the doors lol.

I just read an article from FDM Norway, the HiPhi Z performed the best among 23 cars tested on their real world winter range. With a WLTP range of 555 km it traveled 522 km on a single charge. It also has the least deviation from its WLTP range of just 6% Really well detailed article. Tesla cars won the test the last two years
