Are you struggling with your GOLF SWING despite trying to open your HIPS at impact? You might be focusing on the wrong thing! In this video, we dive into why having SQUARE SHOULDERS at impact is more important than open hips for most golfers.
Learn how IMPROPER SHOULDER ALIGNMENT at the point of COLLISION can lead to SLICING, LOSS OF POWER, and INCONSISTENT CONTACT. I'll break down the difference between RECREATIONAL GOLFERS and ELITE BALL STRIKERS and provide drills to help you maintain proper shoulder alignment.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced golfer, these tips will help you improve your swing and gain more control over your golf shots.
*Key Concepts:*
- Understanding the "RACE" between the STERNUM and BELT BUCKLE.
- The importance of SHOULDER ALIGNMENT for CONSISTENT SHOTS.
- Why OPEN HIPS might not be the best advice for amateurs.
- Practical DRILLS for better BALL STRIKING.
Watch the video to transform your game by prioritizing SQUARE SHOULDERS over OPEN HIPS.

Literally, a perfect explanation of what ive personally experienced at impact, especially for Golfers who do not have Dustin Johnson's flexibility. The shoulders (for me) are pretty SQUARE at impact, while my hips are essentially dong their own thing. I only focus on staying behind the ball at impact with me head and that seems to automatically cause my shoulders to be far more SQUARE. I literally make perfect contact almost every time from that position. The notion (modern teaching) is to get so open we will hurt ourselves may work for a tour pro, but not really for us average joe's. IMHO... Andrew is the best instructor right now for the everyday golfer, hands down. Every one of his videos is a logical progression of what ACTUALLY works for us. Hes just a wonderful instructor that makes my golfing life more enjoyable every round, and im 60, playing well and hes the only resource i now seek for guidance. I really enjoy his delivery, demeanor, friendliness and authenticity. I just wish I lived in Australia so i could get some lessons from him!😃😃 Keep up the great work Andrew, you a a credit to this great game we all love.

@@AndrewEmeryGolf Thats too funny and i feel like a complete idiot. I guess I just "assumed" you were in Aussie land. I live In Georgia, so not as far as I thought!. I might just bite the bullet and make a trip to SC!. Im up there for the Hilton head tournament every year so who knows! In any case, Thanks for all you do and i look forward to continuing to see your excellent insights.

Found this yesterday, it really made more sense as I try on the range today. I feel like a split second stop on impact. It improve my impact and have more sense on where the clubface is relative to right hand palm. Thank u Sir.

This is great advice Andrew, when i'm swinging badly my divots and path are about 30 degrees left and my head is ahead of the ball creating low slicing shots with poor contact. I will try these drills this week.

Great video Andrew. I think a lot of the instruction now a days is driven with the mentality you can’t get open enough while your hands and arms stay very passive. In my own novice opinion that works for young and very flexible golfers , and who want to produce a fade. I’m 54 yrs old and in decent shape. But I prefer to draw the ball it just a nice ball to look at and for me goes further. I will stick with my hands and arms as opposed to this body stuff 😂. I appreciate your no nonsense instruction. Besides your videos I been watching marcus edblad. He is also no nonsense instruction who promotes a draw pattern. You both are great. Keep up the great content 👍🏻⛳️

Your concepts has really helped me. I try to feel that I throw my hands straight down from the top to the level of my knees while keeping hips and shoulders completely square through impact. Can now relatively reliably hit high draws with good contact. Thank You very much indeed Sir! 😊

I’m definitely in the spinning camp. I watched the Olympics Golf this weekend, and agree with what you’re saying Andrew. My only fix is to keep my back to the target, as long as possible and swing inside to out. However now I’m starting to fade or sometimes slice my driver. Don’t do it with my irons so much. I used to hit a draw with every club. Working on fixing that this week.

Andrew I think a message that gets lost in your videos is that the kinematic sequence is still important. Perhaps a video to more clearly demonstrate what that is, why golfers get it wrong and how your teaching gets us properly oriented to perform that sequence properly. Many thanks.

Thanks Jason, I just answered a comment on this with my last video where a viewer is looking at this as ‘black & white!’ It’s not! My interest is in what a golfer should FEEL in order to promote an ideal kinematic sequence. Golfers get it wrong because they believe that driving their pelvis and shoulders will engage the arms and wrists! And, we all know how that works for most golfers! 🤣🤣🤣

As you know from my video, I move my hips too fast in my downswing, they way beat out my clubhead and I drag the club around my body instead of flinging it. These look like great drills to help me with that. Keep up the good work.

Good stuff right here, The worst golf I've played is when I think about my hip movement, we don't think about our hips and lower body when we play other sports when we throw a ball and we kick a ball when we shoot a ball. I guarantee you if you're thinking about your hips when shooting a basketball, you wouldn't make many...

Yes, this was me -- with 'regular' coach was a lot of focus on hips, part was me, watching videos of the pros (PGA and LPGA) -- thought I had to have hips open at impact. Starting with Mr. Emery's videos started focus on elevator arms, articulated wrists, back to the target and now am feeling like a golfer with little frustration (other than its still takes work to get the swing consistent). Also watched videos of Bernhard Langer and his comments, including some with 'regular' coaches critiquing his swing (really!?). Thank You!!!!

Works great if you have a ‘push path!?’ Or, you want to offset a hook release pattern! For most recreational golfers who transition spin with an open club face getting open will be problematic. Bottom line you have to find what works best for you John!! Best, A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

Just found your channel which is a breath of fresh air. I have always struggled with hips and body swings and the concept of “just turn the arms off”. I do better with upper body swings (arms, hands, shoulders, wrists etc.) but still recognizing the role the body and hips play in that.

Funny you just posted this. I made this adjustment at the range yesterday on my own. I never hit every club better. I opened my stance, strengthened my grip, squared my shoulders (left shoulder pointed at target) and put about 60% of my weight on lead foot throughout the swing.

Andrew. I agree with arm swing. I am a recreational golfer but do swing from inside and hit draws and hooks. My issue is hitting it heavy on in to our path. My videos seem to show I slide forward (especially with hips). I am working on pushing right hip back on backswing and trying to push left hip back on downswing to stop slide. Still working on swing arms as well. In watching your video should I stop trying to get that hip out of way? Will it hurt my swing more than it helps? You also mention May hurt my back? Thanks for your excellent instruction. Bill
