Timex - Hidden Crown, Auto Start Feature

Timex hidden crown model 882 mechanism has an auto start feature that is not present on the older models. Also of interest, the crown is built into the cover. To get the back off you have to overcome a rather robust silicon looking seal.

I came across your video and saw that you pulled yours apart the same way I did my first one. I also discovered that there is an epoxy or something similar holding the back on and provides a seal. If you take the crystal off and heat the back around where it attaches to the case it will pry off relatively easy but only while it's hot. I used a butane torch and a lot of patience Otherwise the seal hardens back. What I have not found is a way to do this that leaves no trace of repair. Good video ! I like it !

Yep. 👍 my M 40 pre dynabeat /hi beat has that feature also. When you pull the crown out it parks the balance under tension allowing the re-start. When released, it resumes normal operation. I like the feature because it allows me to park the movement when I'm not wearing the watch. Saves it from wear and tear plus reduces the service interval.

Not to mention these old watches really eat up the battery :) lol
